At times i urinate often....i'm afraid i have diabetes...i have scheduled a doctors appt. but can someone please tell me if this is a sure sign of diabetes!?? So if you don't get diabetes at birth..its type 2 right? Is type 2 a lot less severe? I always thought eating and excersing prevents diabetes and Gary still got it????????
with type 1 diabetes, the symptoms come on rapidly. if you have been pissing excessively, and by excessively, i mean three times and hour twenty four hours a day, then yeah, i'd be worried. i got type 1 diabetes when i was 12, so no, you don't get it at birth. environmental factors cause type 1 diabetes. eating healthy and exercising obviously doesn't prevent type 1 diabetes.

You need to have a fasting glucose test to be sure.
If after not eating anything for 12 hours, you blood glucose level is over 120mg/dL then you may have diabetes.
You can also test for sugar in you urine or ketones by going and purchasing keto/diastix from a pharmacy.
Signs & symptoms include: Blurred vision, extreme thirst, extreme hunger, frequent urination, dry itchy skin, extreme weight loss, fruity breathe.
FYI: I'm a type 1 diabetic- 8 years- firefighter and I swim.
