Depends on what state you run in. I believe in Pennsylvania you have to be 18y/o to hold a cert. An now a days most places are looking for people that are 21 and older due to insurance policies.
in pa you have to be 16 to hold a cert and you can run and provide care as long as there is a senior provider who will take responsibiliteis for your care
In PA, you must be 16 years of age to start an EMT course, and may become one at any time after you are 16. However, most companies will not offer a job to you due to the requirements of EVOC, which require you to be 18 regardless if you hold a PA SR driver's license or not.
@EmergencyBLS most companies won't give you a job now till you're 21 due to insurance companies. No insurance company will insure a 911 EMT till they're 21, only places that will insure under 21 EMT's are transport only companies, no 911 stuff. Atleast, not in PA
@Lawmaster1702 This is absolutely correct, it is amazing how much the EMS landscape has changed over the past 5-10yrs. Most places are looking for at least a years experience, a clean driving and criminal record, and like you denoted 21 years of age. Hopefully these changes are for the better to help EMS to be viewed as a professional career, not just a job!
@medic415 well it will help make the job look more professional by helping to weed out the younger teenagers who aren't serious about the job, it does make it alot harder on EMT's like myself, who are only 18, but are serious about the job. White Rose and many other places in york county have turned me down due solely to the fact that I'm not 21.
@110518jo 18 in NY to become an emt, and some companies will take you at 18, but 21 helps so you can have a CDL (that's the age in NY, dunno about other states)
@roofuslwinn PA doesnt do the whole county wide rescue services, every county has multiple fire depts and EMS services throughout the communites of that county. The whole county wide thing is non existant in this state
@twoid they always send two rigs to a cardiac arrest..so the first rig arrives and starts pt care and the second rig arrives for transport and assist. but izuki27 is right,,the footage is from multiple calls then cut and pasted together where actual footage couldn't be obtained.
irrigate with sterile water, cover with gauze and keep patient off the injured buttock. where i was we weren't allowed to remove anything from the patient unless it was obstructing the airway, but this video is in NY and they are paramedics, so they might do something different.
@Adam2334 this video does not take place in NY, it takes place in York, PA. Pennsylvania medics and EMTS cannot remove an impaled object from the body unless its in the airway, PA protocol states control bleeding, stabilize the object if sticking out, and transport. Along with that you may need to give fluids via IV if there is blood loss, and everything else that goes along with an ALS call.
@Adam2334 they're shorter then the old dispatches and we still get all the information we need...and they're alot easier to understand since we switched to the new digital system..and now our pages are text instead of audio.
All states I know of are 18 yoa, w/ insurance limiting it to 21...thus, you can be employeed, but not DRIVE. That is the usual problem.
