This one of the worst movies i think i've sat through. It's got attemps at scary but it seems to be mostley a comody. Also, the stop-motion is atrocious.
LOVED this movie when I was a kid! I used to wish I could have my ridable dinosaur and caveman body guard! I think this movie was actually the inspiration for a buch of sci-fi over the years... Like using construction machinery to fight the creature being used in Aliens!
I remember reading this movie's comic book over and over again when I was 8,
thinking this must be the most amazing film of all time. Finally saw the flick when I was around 11; some campy fun, but by then I could recognize a low budget.
I believe I read in an interview that Michael Crichton was influenced to write Jurassic Park by two dinosaur movies of his youth: this film and Gorgo (1961). So perhaps the jeep scene in JP is a tribute to this movie.
Actually saw this movie as a kid. I was fascinated and sat though 3 showings in the theater until my mother came and got me. Saw it again a few years ago. It's unbelievably cheesy, with low grade EFX. But I love stop action and it's still watchable , if you accept how low budget it is.
the one disappointment i had in the Jurassic park movies (aside from ploot holes you could drive a truck through) was there was no t-rex vs a back hoe scenes. how cool would that have been with modern fx
That's what I thought, so they could nor of ripped the JP movie off this if the book was written after this. So no JP was not based on this it was based on the book, DUH!
Well, why not? If Crichton wrote the original novel years after this movie came out, it's possible (albeit not likely) that Dinosaurus! was one of his inspirations. But even then, he'd hardly be "ripping it off," since the only thing they have in common is dinosaurs on an island. Otherwise they're totally different stories.

Armonica2332 1 year ago
@Armonica2332 It is, but the music was originally from Creature From The Black Lagoon, and allegedly written by Henry Mancini.
The Japanese version of KKVG has a different soundtrack.

Loved it as a kid. EFX are crude by today's standards. But the guy who played the cave man looked like a genuine Neanderthal. Who was he?

Not bloody, scary or much horror...it's really like a poor mans Jurassic Park. but if you like fun campy 1960 stop-go animation, then you'd like it.
