  • That "I had myself surgically removed" was a line Peter used many times. So much of humor that wasn't slapstick or physical went over my head too.

  • RIP the man of thousand faces.

  • Humor that is actually well-scripted, cultured, and intelligent. Something that no longer exists in children's entertainment. At least you could find it all the way up til the 90's...

  • @goodbyeisthenewhello What difference does it make? Children don't get it anyways. I personally find that my memories of children's TV is full of holes because I didn't understand much of what the characters said.

  • My God, he could be ANYONE! :)

  • happy 86th birthday, mr. sellers!

  • If you Like Muppets, check out this new English comedy coming soon!!:

    Search: Fur Fame and Fortune

  • I also enjoy a good chicken, Sellers.

  • This scene was the theme of The Life and Death of Peter Sellers starring Geoffrey Rush. Peter Sellers played so many characters that hardly was he ever himself.

  • @mohinderbauer he reveals here and in interviews and in one of his last movies that he could never be himself that he never knew how to be himself

  • lol! Aww! poor kermit!!

  • Pretty much all the old celebrity appearances were memorable.

  • This is definitely the funniest I've seen Sellers... :0)

  • such an astounding and enigmatic figure in cinematic history

  • An original. Nobody like him before or after. I kinda put him in the class of Walt Disney (not the money-hungry company that bears his name) in America. Everything Walt was was put on display by means of media and entertainment and fantasy. Sellars was the EXACT opposite. We didn't, and still don't, know who he was because he didn't know who he was. But doesn't it make life rich when you watch both men?

  • birdie num num

  • I use to love Peter Sellers in the pink panther so funny

  • John Cleese tells the story of when he was working with Sellers, and Sellers came downstairs in the morning from just having woken up, and in the space of about a minute between the stairs and the kitchen, he spoke to Cleese and Chapman in four different voices/characters/accents. Cleese suddenly realized that Peter Sellers had no idea who he was anymore, and just kept using whatever voice he could think of.

  • Sadness, he confesses to Kermit in a muppet show, of all things. Favorite. Beautiful. :) Whilst playing chickens.

  • @orualsbowl Tuned chickens.

  • awesome

  • "Shave and a haircut. Two bits!"

  • fake !!

  • @danhashman Well...yeah...there puppets

  • Peter Sellers was a freaking genius!

  • This is me - Peter expressed the artistes desire - oblivion...

  • i like the idea of having tuned chickens!! whilst (and at the same time) reciting shakespear.

  • Did anyone ever see Peter in "Being There"? OMG! Such a funny movie! The ending is absolutely AMAZING!!!

  • Peter Sellers is honoured in an Iphone app called Pocket Goon.

You can see his humour stems from his association with

Spike Milligan. The app has a soundboard and a video board with clips from Sellers as far back as 1956.

  • cousincreep and MrWaynejohn, yes both very true and for someone with a condition(and brilliance) like Sellers comfortable to a certain extend; you escape via acting from the bare naked truth of your very own self and get payed(rather well)for it.

In case of Peter Sellers we are the lucky ones(the audience)

  • 0ne of the funniest skits I've ever seen

  • I enjoy a good chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Stunning. In the most absurd forum, Peter Sellers self confession to Kermit revealed Seller's most vulnerable aspect about his own persona. That only appearing through an avatar, could Seller ever reveal any of his own emotions.

  • to true to true watchin it kinda feel sad knowin what he's sayin true

  • How come Peter didn't want to be himself?

  • does he ever really play himself??

  • No I don't think so but was asking why.

  • because he was paid to be other people !!!

  • Oh now I understand thanks.

  • cos he hated himself its simple. Most actors suffer this, thus feeling comfortable portraying a different character

  • "there used to be a me..but I had it surgically removed" LOL hahahaha

  • *sigh* How come all the greats died with so much left to give? Sellers was AMAZING, despite any "madness" he may have had...made him that much more believable.

"There used to be a me...but I had it surgically removed!" Classic Sellers.

  • I love Kermit's reaction shots. Priceless!

  • peter sellers maestro!

  • muppet show was far ahead on its time, lol

    such a timeless classic

  • Ahahhahahaha this is sooooo funny! Sellers was a genius indeed.

  • this is excellent

    thanks

  • Sellers is the only one who gets those Richard the third lines right!

  • WHy can;t there be more hsows like this? this show was absolutely incredible! And Peters Sellers is one of the funniest people ever!

  • GENIUS!

  • There use to be a me, but I had it surgically removed.

  • One of Peter Seller's legendary performances. A true comic gem was he.

  • Nah- he "was there".

  • An interesting meditation on his personality, when he says "There is no me, I do not exist." Think about the kind of person Peter Sellers was. Genius, yes, but not entirely there. If you know what I mean.

  • Most genius is a fine line between greatness and madness. :)

  • I could never think of that, never the less pull it off.

  • brilliant.

  • Sellers is awesome! GENIUS! R.I.P

  • "Can we change the subject" LOL kermit getting to much information!

  • Just amazing!!!!!

  • haha

  • soo amazing- i think he was just making an awesome joke..

  • "I could never be myself."

I was unsure if I should laugh or cry at this line, because it is 100% truth. It's as if the true Peter Sellers broke through his facade of personalities for a fleeting instant.

Truly a comedic genius of unparalleled caliber.

  • Fantastic

  • those poor chickens.

    i miss this show

  • Super

    Classic

  • "There is no me. I do not exist."

  • I wonder why people who have to offer so much to the rest of us have to pass away so early...he makes me smile whenever I'm feeling bad :-)

  • Awesome! I'd never seen Peter Sellers on the Muppets. But I reckon it's a Classic!!

  • GOLD

  • Absolute comedic genius!

  • Ive been watching this like 7 times hah, this is so funny, and Peter Sellers is so hilarious!!XD

  • there used to be a me....but i had it sergicly removed LOL thats really funny great clip

  • Sadly, that line reflected the emotional problems of Peter Sellers on the personal side.

  • lol im naked! X

  • By the way Sellars with "a" is a director, well known for his DaPonte-Mozart Operas, etc.

Sir Peter is with "e" in his last name.

  • he was what he performed-of course, there is more to it, but we should be grateful for what we got. Enjoy Sir Peter Sellers.

  • holy fuck

  • "you recite the soliloquy from shakespeare's richard III, whilst, and at the same time, playing TUNED CHICKENS?"

  • Peter Sellers

  • So funny I spat a mouthful of water onto the keyboard when he squished the chicken the first time! I should know better than to drink anything while watching the Muppets by now :D

  • He was a genius

  • Poor Sellars -- when he said "There is no me" he meant it.

  • exactly

  • the man that was the characters...

  • did peter stay in wang's wing?

  • The GREAT Lon Chaney(MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES)

Would say I DO NOT EXIST BETWEEN FILMS??? How scary! And now the GREAT Peter Sellers says THERE IS NO ME??? Two of our BEST actors EVER!!!!

  • "There is no me". So true it's almost frightening!

  • Purely wonderful - what a stunning and great piece of acting.

As usual by the great Peter Sellers!

  • That was always my favorite muppet scene of all time. I have quoted it many MANY a time...

  • I think sometime in the late 70's

  • OMG!!!! That so good!

  • i love the muppet show, what year was this?

  • That was an inspired bit of insanity!

  • Its funny how the muppet show could get away with bombs and explosions as 'family entertainment'. Simpler times *sigh*

  • The trifecta of Henson plot devices: Eat something, blow something up, or throw some penguins around.

  • Only a truly great actor could pull that off and make it funny. Hence Peter Sellers in that...costume.

  • The Muppet Show had some great guest stars. Seeing these clips brings back memories I haven't thought of in 25-30 years. I grew up watching the Muppet Show (I believe it was on Sunday night at 7 or 7:30) sitting Indian style in front of the television like so many of my generation. So weird and different now as an adult watching this show, literally haven't laid eyes on it since I was under 10 years of age. BTW Sellers was a genius. Very complex man but most geniuses are (complex, not men)

  • bigben....funniest comment ever read on youtube... that's a left handed complement I know, but still

  • I totally agree

    That guy is unbelieveble

  • he is one of the great man in the world R.I.P

  • Not only funny but also a revealing portrait of a tortured genius. We are watching a performer who had lost all sense of identity through years of over work, drug abuse and too much sex. He is still a major influence on comedians.

Who is the guy in the viking helmet?

  • ROFL!

  • lol!

  • the guys in the viking helmet is ofcourse Sir peter Sellers. may he rest in peace.

  • @BIGBENFIJI I wonder if there was a real Peter Sellers. Perhaps even the out-of-costume persona was a put-on. He fell into the role of "star" - complete with the temper tantrums - with great ease. But he fell into most roles with ease.

  • @BIGBENFIJI Good last line. Compliment! That would have been even more funny, if Kermit wouldn´t be sure of being himself because maybe played by Peter Sellers perfectly!

  • haha! i love peter sellers!

  • lool that was a piece of pure madness ! I'm bursting of tears out of laughter here ^^

  • There was a me....but i had it surgically removed!!!!!!!!

  • "There is no me, I do not exist"

  • I find it incredibly sad to be honest.

  • So true, He was IMHO a creative genius

who really suffered for his art during his lifetime.

  • Peter Sellers is awesome

  • The odd thing is that in reality there was no Peter Sellers. He was great at all the characters because he had no strong sense of himself.

  • that's one of Peter Sellers most outrageously crazy/funny setups. (maybe even better than the sailors hat and parrot on his shoulder etc.)

  • i love cermits friend when he finds out

  • Peter Sellers, Shakespeare silioquies, singing chickens, terrorism, occult phenonmina..this sketch has it all! Kick ass!

  • Peter Sellers and the Muppets. Yay.

  • the muppet show was/is awesome! I used to get into so much trouble in school talking like Fozzie, Miss Piggy, Swedish Chef, the flying fish clown, animal, etc. My kids love the DVD sets.

  • i love the muppet show it's so silly but very memeroble and i love pigs in space

  • I feel bad for kids today; Jim Henson was a genius. TV that kids have today is trashy

  • I agree entirely.

  • to know gonzo, is to know thyself.

  • I love this clip! I would like to see the full episode too!

  • Great, even the Muppet Show did exhistentialism.......

  • I love the chickens! I found out about this episode a few minutes ago, and I knew I'd find it here. Thanks.

  • Indeed I think you are right - even he didn't know who the real Peter Sellers (actually Richard Sellers) was. There's a fine line between genius and insanity....and he trod it on both sides.

  • "There USED to be a me...but I had it surgically removed!" While this does sound like a line from "The Goon Show", it's probably very close to the truth about this man! He lived through the characters he played.

  • It's documented that when Peter Seller's mother visited him on the set of Dr Strangelove, she complained that she didn't see her son she saw the doctor!

  • i wish i could surgicaly remove me

  • Are you sure you want it taken out? I don't think your insurance would pay to have it put back in.

  • He's perfect for the show. More!

  • Hey, does someone have the full episode? I'd love to see it

  • dear 906087... It was actually released on VHS! My library had it, try yours.

  • It's on "The Muppet Show" season 2 DVD.

  • So cute! I love Kermit.

  • Hahahaha.....he's my favourite comic actor, i'ts so much him, he never knew himself.....thx for posting

  • he was good in the goon show

n i like the muppets too

  • Wow, I can even hear shadows of his old "Goon Show" characters.... I loved this show!

  • I was crying so hard!!!

  • He is telling the truth. There really was not self to himself.

  • the audience is all muppets -- they can't clap very loudly with their little felt hands.

  • the ink panther, inspector clousea

  • damnit, where have i heard that name before?

  • This is as tragic as it is funny. Sellers truly did not know who he truly was. He played so many characters that he forgot his own.

  • I love the scrunched-up-face disgusted look Kermit gives Mr. Sellers after the "There used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed" line. XD

  • "there used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed"! The man is a legend..

  • pretty deep for a comedy show.

it makes him a great comic actor, if not THE great comic actor, but it was also why his perosnal life was a shambles and he hurt many of the people who loved him.

  • reminds me of the life and death of peter sellers...

  • i saw the bomb and i was hoping that he'd do his pink panther cousteau "A buhmb?!" thing.

  • The bit on self-surgical removal was quoted in a recent biographical film on Sellers.

  • He actually didnt have a "real" personality behind all the acts. He was just an all round genius.

  • funny you say that! there was a belief peter had asperger's syndrome when he was younger. plus his quote (im paraphrasing) was interesting "I can never by myself for there is no me"

  • briant! there used to be me but i had him sericly removed

  • I love this animal :D

  • peter sellers is my role model.

  • woo hoo!!!

  • I love this guy sheer genius!

  • C'mon, you can easily tell that they recorded the laughing. The same applies to the clapping.

  • awesome

  • It kills me how Gonzo zooms into frame.

  • this IS hillarious!!!

  • Sellers. One Mega Star Forever.I loved all him.

  • Hehe! He was a legend guys...

  • "There used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed." This scene with Kermit was used to open the Sellers cover story in Time magazine, which ran less than a year before his death.

  • "I have a pressing appointment!"

    I need to master the art of Poofing at moments like that >.>;

  • Ah, PEter... this may sound crazy to you all, but I have a similar problem.. I used to have a myself too. I loved her, very much. But ever since a friend, whom I loved even more, died, myslef became upset and has gone missing. :( It's sad but true.

  • He was a great funny man!

  • This genius made us laugh till our sides hurt....Cheers Peter..

  • Hallo Captain....He fallen in da water....very goodly and all man...birdie num num.
