The one way to defeat berserkers is to trick them into going berserk and charge head first into a phalanx as it snaps them out of berserk mode and kills them. If they attack the flanks of a phalanx though... Well they will destroy the enemy.

Berserkers are the most powerful unit in the game,considering the amount of damage they can do and their horrific warcries. They can easily be used in custom battles and online battles,to a great effect. A problem is that they are not available for training in the Imperial Campaign :(

my beserkers had gone beserk and they charged directly into a phalanxe of macedonians and two units of beserkers wiped out an entire army. nothing can beat them except brute force in numbers.

The best army to have when encountering beserkers is to consist of lots of archers and phlanx spearmen (hoplites are the best.) Beserkers have no armour so they can be easily wiped out with missiles and spears.

I've seen many debates on these sort of things, like the Romans were crap and Spartans would kick their asses if they fought etc... or that they would be owned by beserkers, or whatever, you get my point. I hate to say it guys, but if the Germans or Spartans or Britons or whoever were so strong (don't get me wrong, they were very strong), why didn't they conquer Europe for more than a thousand years? Why isn't the half or Europe speaking a Germanic language? (yes I know there are exceptions)

Because many countrys had wars that had them occupied and there was simply not enough manpower, the smaller the nation and its populations ---> the stronger armys they have.

Well, yes I agree with you, to a certain point, true they must have had strong armies, but even so, numbers aren't always everything, heck they do help but it's just a small factor e.g. 100 000 peasants vs 10 000 elite men. Also, the Romans didn't start off with 100 000 men, they eventually got that many people, because of their ever growing power. They conquered many countries etc...

Maybe with some patches.

I tested them in custom game berserker unit vs legionary cohort (not first ) and they alvays looose. ( Except when chatging from back ).

And here romans are acting as morons :) No need to do maneuvering, but -

1) the woulontary lost their charge.

2) Better not to charge - just stand still and trow spears on charging berserkers - that would kill some of them and slow down rest so their charge would be weaker.

I've played both but I do prefer RS than RTR. Realism is not what I'm aiming for in total war not that it doesn't make what a good game makes itself a good game. Can't wait for for Roma Surrectum 2!

I defeated Elephants once with berserkers! It was in a winter conditions and in a forested area, that slowed their charge and in the melee I won.

Yes, but actually non of the germanic people's actually used "berserkers" as this is a viking invention. (although it's still And in Rome total war try this, this blew my mind. One unit of berserkers, max gold in everything. and one unit of Urban cohort also max in everything. on very hard difficulty. When the battle begins do the warcry and watch the carnage begin!! you'll never feel the same about any troop type ever again!

Hahaha, 1 million Goths? Seriously, check your history. I'm not saying Rome wasn't a good war machine, it was, one of the best. Because of their tactics and formations. Also they stood their ground because of their superior officers. There is no soldier who isn't afraid. But berserkers were far more brave, stronger, heroic warriors. If Romans didn't fight in formation or without order, they were lost. Like what happened in Teutoburg forest and many more examples.

Hasn't anybody noticed that through history lots of the greatest victories were won by Romes enemies, the reason Rome was so powerful was not because their soldiers were invincible(true, they were very disciplined and hardly ever ran from a battle, but because of the tactics and strategies they used, and if they lost one army, it didn't take long for them to muster an other two or more.

Also they never surrendered no matter what the terms were, they were a extremely determined

people.
