I think it comes down to pure arrogance, she can afford the best of the best voice teacher but instead sings how she thinks is best. There are very technical singers (Monica Naranjo for example) who can sound raw without wrecking the voice in the process. Also, in 2004 she strained her voice recording "Hello" and got some voice lessons, but quit them because it was taking away the strained struggling sound which is so emblematic of her personal style.

There's enough performances of her singing off key to say she does have pitch problems, even in her supposed best performances such as "I loves you Porgy" and "A man's world" there are a bunch of off-key notes.

I study VoiceCraft and I understand if a voice is constricted or not (quitely closing the false vocal folds) and this is not contricted: if you listen to her when she pushes her voice it becomes dirt and raw: that sound comes out because she uses a different vibration of the vocal folds. The only one proof that she's able to use that voice is: She never stopped to sing from 11 years (and more...) and now she got more voice than ever!
her E5 here is good. But when she performs the whole song live on stage, it's when she starts to sound constricted. But talking about her E5 here, ALONE, she did great. I just wonder how she would sound if she sustained the note.
@okramsinger the reason for that is that beyonce and celine are MEZZO-sopranos not sopranos like Christina is so of course her tessitura is higher reaching, but technically coloratura mezzo celine has sung the F5 in chest although it tends to get scratchy and the tone starts to get gritty, raw losing its integrity of timbre cuz she belts it out in full voice, or chest register.
xtina's unique timbre comes from her slightly straining; producing her somewhat throaty, tight, edgy tone.
but i was really bored, and i kept rewinding at the part where she does the note, and its like over and over its funny. and cool sounding. and then when shes like "that was the note, the 'side" and she does it all high pitched, i played that over and over and it didnt even sound like a persons voice it sounded like a machine beeping it was cool. and i did it to the end where shes like "little girl with the big voice" it was cool. but anyway,
i think it's funny how right after she sings with her big, powerful voice, when she talks her voice instantly sounds like a little 10 year old girl. lol she's amazing!

It's obvious my replies are not directed to Christina but to her fans, who are usually extremely rude and aggressive and attack whoever disagrees with their opinion Christina is the greatest and put down other singers just to try to make her look better.

@primohomme Well, I can't argue with you on that. But I think I've seen pretty much every fan of any artist put down other artists in hopes of elevating their own! This is especially the case for Lady Gaga, or the diva's like Mariah, Celine, Whitney. It's always the same bash-fights in the comments.

Yes, but one thing is bashing another artist and another is claiming your fave is the best singer in the world and then she can't actually deliver live, and the straining and the off key moments, etc.
I think Christina is talented, but far from a perfect singer, and not even close to the best.

@primohomme Fans will be fans I guess. I must say I do love me some Christina, and I've enjoyed many of her performances, and yes, at times she's off key, and strains. But ah well. I'm not sure what makes her not just use proper technique, I think she sacrifices technique for getting that raw ''soul-sound'' she's aiming for. What are your thoughts on this?

I think it comes down to pure arrogance, she can afford the best of the best voice teacher but instead sings how she thinks is best. There are very technical singers (Monica Naranjo for example) who can sound raw without wrecking the voice in the process. Also, in 2004 she strained her voice recording "Hello" and got some voice lessons, but quit them because it was taking away the strained struggling sound which is so emblematic of her personal style.

There's enough performances of her singing off key to say she does have pitch problems, even in her supposed best performances such as "I loves you Porgy" and "A man's world" there are a bunch of off-key notes.

The difficult is do that with that power, not changing register of voice (specifically more head voice) like Celine or Beyonce would do. This is a difficult way to sing, manteining a low register on an high note! She's amazing!

But I liked what Christina did here. her E5 is awesome here. Well, I often used to dislike her because of her belting that don't sound good to me(PERSONALLY) BUT here, obviously she's definitely great, really.

I perfectly understand what you're taking about. I study VoiceCraft and I understand if a voice is constricted or not (quitely closing the false vocal folds) and this is not contricted: if you listen to her when she pushes her voice it becomes dirt and raw: that sound comes out because she uses a different vibration of the vocal folds. The only one proof that she's able to use that voice is: She never stopped to sing from 11 years (and more...) and now she got more voice than ever!

her E5 here is good. But when she performs the whole song live on stage, it's when she starts to sound constricted. But talking about her E5 here, ALONE, she did great. I just wonder how she would sound if she sustained the note.

@okramsinger the reason for that is that beyonce and celine are MEZZO-sopranos not sopranos like Christina is so of course her tessitura is higher reaching, but technically coloratura mezzo celine has sung the F5 in chest although it tends to get scratchy and the tone starts to get gritty, raw losing its integrity of timbre cuz she belts it out in full voice, or chest register.
xtina's unique timbre comes from her slightly straining; producing her somewhat throaty, tight, edgy tone.

but i was really bored, and i kept rewinding at the part where she does the note, and its like over and over its funny. and cool sounding. and then when shes like "that was the note, the 'side" and she does it all high pitched, i played that over and over and it didnt even sound like a persons voice it sounded like a machine beeping it was cool. and i did it to the end where shes like "little girl with the big voice" it was cool. but anyway,

Can anybody tell me what note this is? Isn't it supposed to be E5? I keep playing it in my keyboard and it shows E4. The note that Ron Fair played on this video is E4 right? or am i wrong because i hit E5 on my keyboard and it's not the note he played on this video, it's higher than the one he hit on the piano.
