The most common type of skin psoriasis is plaque psoriasis. The skin is red and covered with grey or silver scales and is inflamed. Also patches of circular to oval shaped red plaque that are itchy or burn are typical of plaque psoriasis. Normally the patches are found on the elbows and knees, but may be found on any part of the skin. Psoriasis can be inherited but is not contagious.
