The good thing is that Avamar Virtual Edition (AVE) does everything the full Avamar storage grids do - including optionally replicating. AVEs can replicate their data between them, or to/from a physical Avamar platform. You can also easily restore from alternate grids.

Your backup system is running in the virtual environment you are backing up. What if you loose this? It makes no sense to me to do it.
