That's not how I remember the manga going. I remember it that Mitsumi did like Keitaro, but a lot of the stuff that happened between her and Keitaro was just her playing along with it. She even said so when Grandma Hina came back and was redoing the apartments (and Naru walked in on Mitsumi and Keitaro in Mitsumi's apartment). By the end of the Manga, Grandma Hina even said that it was Naru who Keitaro made the promise to.

Hai, I've been reading in more, and I know the whole story.

Keitaro (Kei-kun), Naru (Na-chan) and Mutsumi (Mu-chan) were friends when they were little. Kei liked Na-chan, so when Mu-chan told them about Tokyo U, he promised Naru they could get in together someday. Naru was only 2 at the time. Soon they all left Hinata Sou never to see each other again. :< But a year later, Naru and Mutsumi met and Mutsumi promised THEY could get in (that's when she gave her Liddo-kun). And that's the past. :3
