@NiteStarGirl I agree, toys were actually fun back then and let people use their imaginations. Now all the games have plots already planned for them and they can zone out playing them... it is actually very sad.
These toy commercials are great. Kids today don't know what toys are. It's all about Ipods, facebook, computers, cell phones, texting, oh and don't forget the WHEEEEE!!! I know it's WI.
This was definitely '86 as my female cousins collected the Lady Lovelylocks dolls in that year. I also remember He-man going past its prime too, completely depleting in 1987.
there is a lot of Iran Contra coverage which began November 86' so this was Christmas 86'. Thanks for posting Lesti!!! feeling so nostalgic!! I grew up and still live in NJ!
This should date to December 1987. The Lady Lovely Locks doll was advertised at that time (I have the video of that commercial uploaded and it seems to be very popular). The Hot Looks were also new at the time.
I'm fairly certain that these ads come from 1986, as they are part of the same tape that the other 80's Christmas commercials that I posted are from, and the third part explicitly shows the date 1986 as part of the Walbaum's ad.
However, I will admit that this special could have been added to the tape the following year, which is why I say 'approximately' in the video description.
Mattel bought up a lot of ad time. 6 of the commercials are for their toys.

Barbie & The Rockers was one of my fave Christmas presents of all time in the mid '80s!!! Gifts just aren't as meaningful when you're an adult.
