At the 1972 games, Ulrike I believe only qualified third at her national event. It came as quite a shock when she won in Munchen.

Sara Simeone was the Italian athlete and she won Gold at the previous Olympic Games in Moscow 1980. She had retired prior to the 1984 Games but decided to return to compete against Ulrike. Great story

Nice vid. The italian woman in the blue top, was competing at a high age too - don´t recall how old she was but she took silver or bronce against a russian girl in another championship if I remember correctly.

Sara Simeoni. She was 31 at the time, older than Meyfarth can you believe? She won gold in 1980, silver in 1984 and 1976. One of the greatest.
