  • and WTF.. im frm Houston, TEXAS and we dnt speak lik tht. smh

  • damm..the guy figured it out!!

  • loooooooool....dis kids

  • "giriwa ihe a, ndi iberibe" lol, really?!! i hope he was not refering to the person asking the questions.. nice video tho. your Igbo pronounciation of "onye ocha" sounds good. was this in Anambra? trying to determine the kids' dialect..

  • @moveurb0dy

This is imo dialect. You can tell by the way the kids started it especially at 0:07

  • The correct spelling is Igbo. In Igbo gb makes a sound that's Not found in English. Ni Igbo ichorisi green oh akwukwoyi yello wu odo red wu boar moqa uvivye. Wonkeocha kanyi zitukwagi Assusu anyi.

  • its language de apes...

  • @katribodkit Very close minded human being you are

  • Yellow is edo, red is obara, green is akwukwo ndu.

  • @sprucepantherkmt i wasnt the one who used it. i was responding to another youtuber named "Nwuese" he used it when describing igbos thats why i put it in quotes... i dont ever say shit like negroid

  • 00:56- LMAO! HAHAHAHA!

  • It can be spelt either "Igbo" or "Ibo".

  • we dont say no damn howdyy.. wtf?

  • omg i havent heard this in sooo long! it's so weird to hear some words and u still remember what they mean. my parents speak it that's why. they speak english to us b/c we dont speak it but they speak it to themselves so sometimes when theyre talking about us, they speak it but i understand a lot of it haha. too funny

  • It is spelt "IGBO" not "ibo".

  • can you at least spell it right. it's "Igbo" not "Ibo" like the British say.

  • Being Jewish is not about being a caucasian. There were black Egyptians as well as black Jews. So don't talk about DNA and physical appearances. What is your beef if someone says he is Jewish, as a nigerian would say "What concern you now?". I am a Ga, from Ghana. We also consider ourselves as having Jewish blood and coming to Ghana from ille Ife, in Nigerian. We are not asking to go back to Israel, our culture and custom is Jewish, full stop.

  • its spelled igbo

  • lol. i don't say howdy, and i'm from Texas :p

  • Lolol! @ 0:45 one of the kids says "ndi biri"(spelling?) which means fool.

  • I dont know why I took time to skim through these comments but i've been reading stuff on the hebrew stuff..some of it could be true but then again ..who knows..if it is..so what..if its not lets move on what matters is igbo now...also where is igboland africa? you saying it as if its NY or something thats not the point..I definately thought the focus was on these kids teaching and learning. I know this is old but um yea ..anyway igbo..no wait NAIJA KWENU!!

  • Aww I miss nigeria...reminds me of the the kids that used to crowd my house to watch tv after 6(pm)..lol

  • lmao me too!! and it was always the michael jackson video we always watched lol

  • HAHAHAHHAHA 0:45 one of this kids calls him a fool

  • @fayfay02 omg! r u igbo cause i am 2!

  • lol me too!

  • The fact is ndibidi looks nothing like new or old written forms of hebrew. Niether does it look like Aramaic or Geez written forms. Stop wasting your time with this Jewish nonsense....

  • @nograviti it's called 'NSIBIDI' and it's NOT Igbo...it's Efik/Ejagham!

  • @nograviti what??

  • איך אתה יכול לשכוח איך לכתוב? Nsibidi אינה עברית

  • Also, I wouldn't really call any of the Eze Nri's as head of Igbo civilization, but that's just me.

  • I agree. The Eze Nri is only the head of Nri. End of story. We've always been democratic for the most part.

  • The Igbo people have never been democratic, only republican.

  • Are replying to my post? Well what I meant by the head of the Igbo civilization was that Nri is really where all the culture comes from and it was the first and the oldest Igbo civilisation than any body considered Igbo can link to. Because of this some consider Nri the head or epitome of Igbo.

  • I still wouldn't refer to Nri as head of, or foundation of, Igbo civilization. Reason being that, although I'm not an anthropologist, I'm familiar enough with various Igbo groups to know that Igbo is not as culturally homogeneous as some people may think. Aside from that Nri influence never really reached southern Igbo groups. I would know, because I'm southern Igbo

Still, people credit Nri as being the founders of Igbo civilization, and being the first Igbo people (which I doubt 100%).

  • Well there wasn't any other Igbo civilizations found before Nri, which makes them the first known Igbo civilization, many communities in Nigeria can be traced back to Nri, and Nri culture seemed to be imposed on most of Igboland such as twin killing.

  • Considering how the term "civilization" is arbitrary and subjective, I'd like for you to define for me, how you're using the term "civilization", and what exactly characterizes Nri as the "first Igbo civilization".

  • It had a complex society and culture, it had established towns and villages, and also a complex social hierarchy. Can you tell me of any Igbo settlement that existed before Nri?

  • Have you ever heard of Oru Igbo people? Also are you aware that when Nri Igbo people arrived at their current settlement, they came in contact with indigenes? Nri Igbo did not settle in empty space.

  • Then the Nri Igbo must have brought a more advanced culture for them to have had that much influence over the indigenous people.

  • I doubt that. I my honest opinion, I think it is more appropriate to say that Nri Igbo culture is an off-shoot of previously established Igbo cultures.

Also, out of all the things credited to Nri Igbo, the only real influence they had was some religious aspects (which themselves aren't even pan-Igbo).

But, if you can, and if you don't mind, please tell me the advanced culture that Nri Igbo brought with them that had so much influence over the indigenes. Maybe there's something I don't know.

  • The fact that Nri was a state shows how advanced it was.

  • I'm really not concerned with Nri's statehood, or advancement. All I'm saying is that I doubt that Nri Igbo were the first Igbo, as well as the founders of Igbo civilization.

  • Anyway, ka m juo.. i si ebe ole n'ala Igbo?

  • Umuahia.

  • O di nma.

  • Hey, please check your facts before you conjure such meaningless statements about Igbos: Its better you dont say anything at all about the Igbos, because from all your statements, i can see thatyou are the least informed person trying to a make a point i have read from, apart from the white men of course!!!

  • Can you point out the meaningless statements and correct them please? And then better inform me.

  • Also, purple is Ododo

  • Wait.. so how would these sentences be said: "It was purple" & "It was indigo"? Would it still follow the "O chara" trend.

    i.e.

    O chara ododo, for purple

    O chara amaloji for indigo.

  • Actually I think it's supposed to be

    O di oji

    O di amaloji

    Odi ododo

Because Ocha is white to technically icha (verb) means to be white.

    I'm not totally sure though.

  • Okay. Well, I would just go with 'icha' then because from the way we use it down where I'm from, it doesn't necessarily mean 'to be white'. It seems more like it means 'to shine'.

Maybe it's different in Anambra Igbo areas.

  • I don't think Icha means to shine. I know it regards the colour of something, and I know it is used in the same SENSE of to shine, but then how do you explain the sentence: O cha oji

A thing can't 'shine black' you know what i mean?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure about 'o cha oji". I've never heard/seen it before. We say "o jiri nji" instead.

  • I say o ji oji too, but at the same time, i'm guessing you could technically say o cha oji because icha doesn't necessarily mean shining as much as colour. I don't know how to explain it, it's one of those things that doesn't translate well to english.

  • I think I get what you're saying, because whenever I hear "icha" being used, it is almost always in regards to colors, except for when we're talking about the sun. I guess, maybe, a close approximation we could make would be to say that, "icha", would be synonymous to "emit". Not necessarily, "shine", or "glow", but "express"/"emit"/"indicate" (if that makes any sense).

So 'icha' has a fluid meaning.

  • Lol...Obala or mmeyi =Blood

    Akwukwu= Epilepsy

    Akwukwo= Leaf, paper

  • cute kids :)

  • Lol i was just about to comment on the "Ibo" title but i guess others have beaten me to it..!!

  • im from nigeria but i dont know how to say the clors except for white LOl

  • Actually the children got the colours wrong. There are Igbo words for all the colours we just aren't taught them anymore.

    Red is Urie

    Black is Oji

    White is Ocha

    Yellow is Edo

    Brown is Nchara

    Blue is Amaloji

    Green is Ndo

If something has many colours it is called Agwa.

Sorry I can't do the tones here, but those are the colours.

  • LOL FUNNY

  • Sorry, I meant to say born in Nigeria, raised in the U.S.

  • I'm Igbo, born and raised in Nigeria, raised in the U.S. and I've always known..

Yellow - Edo (or edo edo -- golden/"goldish")

    Blue - Uri

    Green - Akwukwo Ndu

    Red - Uhie

    Brown - Anwuanwu

The kids are doing well though.

  • Now that's a REAL son/daughter of the land, am Amaala if there ever is one! Well done! I've even forgotten what Brown was called. And I thought I knew Igbo. And Blue too... I knew we have it in Igbo as Igbos use Indigo dyes and so must have a name for colours/colors like that! Thanks dear...

  • Thanks...That was nice

  • Actually Green isn't Akwukwo Ndu.

Akwukwu Ndu means Leaves that sustain life i.e. Vegetables (which are green yes I know, but it still isn't the word for the colour green.)

Green is Ndo which is why there's often a confusion with Ndu which is life which leads a lot of people to think that Green is Akwukwo Ndu.

    Green is

  • Sorry, but I didn't grow up knowing Green as "Ndo". Maybe "Ndo" is what describes "Green" from the area of Igboland you're from, but that's not what I grew up with. I guess I'll have to go back and ask my parents and other elders.

  • Well there are a lot of Igbo words that are no longer in use now. For example my Mom doesn't know the Igbo word for cup, but I do. It's Iko. (there's an tone but I can't write it here). There are lots of Igbo words that people don't know anymore.

For example, the Igbo word for lover or girlfriend or boyfriend is Enyi (again, can't write the tone). So ask around. Just because your parents say it isn't doesn't mean that it isn't.

  • I've also never heard of "Nchara" (we it call "Anwuanwu"), or "Amaloji" (we call it "Uri"), or "Ndo", or "Ododo". I can relate to everything else though (Urie, Edo, Ojii, Ocha).

I also asked about the color green to confirm, and I was told that we call it "Ndu" (we say something like, "icha ndundu" [to be green]). "Akwukwo Ndu" seems to be what standard Igbo would say, but we don't say the word "Akwukwo" before "Ndu". We just say "Ndu". So the way we say it is not far off from your "Ndo".

  • Well it's different in different dialects but remember Akwukwo Nri (Nli) means leaves for eating and has nothing to do with colour. I think it's often an approximation made by Igbo dictionary writers because they and so many other people have forgotten the words for things.

  • Oh ok. As for lover or girlfriend or boyfriend.. I was unaware that that is what "enyi" meant, specifically. I always thought it just meant "someone of intimate acquaintance". So, the way I grew up knowing it, it could mean anything from "friends" to "lover", depending on context, but I didn't know that it meant "lover", "boyfriend", or "girlfriend" specifically.

  • so while 'Oyi' means friend, 'Enyi' means sexual friend in other words lover, boyfriend or girlfriend.

  • Oh, and I forgot to add that your Uri(indigo - called Uli in my dialect) refers to the Indigo plant from which Igbos get the Indigo dye that we use to draw designs on our skin and houses. Indigo the colour however is Amaloji. Uri refers to the plant, the indigo liquid, and the designs (whether on skin or on a wall) :D

  • Wow... I hadn't heard "Oyi" until a few years ago when I became more familiar with some Anambra families. So "oyi" isn't something we say. We only use "Enyi".

In regards to "Uri"/"Uli", that's not something I'm familiar with. I've always just known "Uri" to be "blueish" coloring.

  • Well like I said, it depends on dialect. In Anambra Igbo (where I'm from) Oyi is used generally. Enyi is reserved for people you are extremely close to or that you have a sexual relationship with (but are not married). I guess "sexual relationship" could further be expanded to people that you have a romantic relationship with regardless of whether you are having sex or not, hence, boy/girlfriend, and of course, lover

  • i don't like this video at all..i'm tired of people preferrably Americans going into our native lands Showing only the people in the village. Nigeria is a beautiful country all around. Why do they only show the people in the village? I can't stand to see those commercials on tv saying..."the children of africa are starving" Yes Nigeria has the bad but deres also da good, but so does America. These types of videos cause ignorant people to think all Africans r poor bush people. And its IGBO not ibo

  • I'm Igbo and I don't see a problem with the video. The children looked healthy. I agree that the media should show different aspects of African life, but is there anything wrong with living in the village. Is it something to be ashamed of?

  • Lol, UZOdaStar "These types of videos cause ignorant people to think all Africans r poor bush people.", you just called the kids in the video "poor" and "bush"?

  • @Dreamlover225 A lot of my family lives in the village. ain't nothin wrong, lol. As long as you keep sending them money.

  • This is so cute!!! aw. we do sound like that! Hei! i miss home so much!

is there a way to rename the video? the "ibo" is really kind of annoying.

  • God, I love children! Hehheh, sounds like he had lots of fun with them. Howdy y'all! :) They did pretty good with it, I thought. I'm in Texas myself. Some day, I'd like to visit Africa. My wife and I have discussed it and we may go some day. I hear it is an unforgettable experience. Thanks for the video. It made me smile.

  • Sassychioma, yes you are right yellow is 'Edo' not 'odo'/odoh' but going far deeper into ancient Ibo, my grandmother when she was alive called yellowish things Uhie, or Ufie after the colour of some wood grounded and used as body decoration. She would say 'o na-acha ufie ufie..' ie it is reddish yellow, or like the ufie colour which is yellowish red. And you know there are different variations of yellow as well as other colours, even white. Chi Ukwu gozie anyi nile oooooh Amen ooooh/Ise ooooh

  • see how all the kids started to laugh when he said white person

  • But it's a pity we do not even teach Ibo children Ibo in our schools again! Something must be done fast. I plan to go home soon and visit our governors about this trend!

  • ayolisah, Do you know mother in Hebrew is ima just like in Igbo it is mma? There really needs to be some sort of serious investigation to see if Igbo people really are related to the Israelites.

  • Yes Ukabia... that is not even where it ends, listen to this...am in hebrew for place is Ama for same in Ibo, Emuna=belief, omena or emuna=belief or culture ie the totality of how Ibos do their things. And this is why we Ibos say Omena-ala ie the belief/culture/tradition of the land. my friend Meche would say emunala ndi be anyi. And he is from somewhere in abia state.

  • some one the stuff they say is wrong like happy but some time children say some word different keep going children lol cya

  • no they just know both languages. You learn english in school. And kids start school as early as 3 years old. But in the village everybody just speaks igbo, but the city...thats another thing

  • My name is Chukwuebuka Enekwechi. I was born and raised in US. From my understanding, half of these are wrong.

    black-good, oji

    white-good, ocha

    blue- goog, blu

    yellow-wrong

    red- wrong, me or mme

    green- wrong akukwuo nri

If that guy is white, I'm proud of his attention and interest.

  • Ebuka you are great!

  • thank you

  • i love igbo people lol i am igbo

  • Golden is edo,Yellow is edo too, red is okeme, meme,or me green is akwukwondu, white is ocha, those children dont know Ibo language well. They are still kids.

  • You're right but I think Yellow can as well be 'Uhie'. Red is Mmee or to qualify it subjectively we can say 'obara obara' ie 'blood red' or 'bloodlike red' as obara means blood or mmanu mmanu- palm oil red.

  • As leaves are green we say 'akwukwo-ndu' ie literally 'leaf that is alive'- green leaf! Gray is 'awo' Ash is 'ntu-ntu' ie literally 'ash coloured' or 'ashen'. White can as well be 'Ugbana' and I think it is 'Hulbannah' in Hebrew too. Igbo is relly a mixture of ancient Ivrit/Ibrit ie Hebrew(Ibo) and remnant of that ancient form of Hebrew could still be seen by those that know what to look for.

  • Oh God, not this Hebrew bullshit again. We are IGBO! We are not Hebrew, Israelites or Jewish nor do we want to be. Why can't you be happy being IGBO?? For God's sake! God created us Igbo! Stop all this Hebrew nonsense I am SICK of it.

  • I never thought of igbos to be Hebrew but I looked it up yes they are stating that but that does not distance you from the land your family lives on now.

  • They say that but I only thought it was the Bantus and Akan people who were Isrealites but people are stating other wise.

  • WE ARE NOT ISRAELITES, HEBREW, OR JEWS. WE ARE IGBO. We have ALWAYS been Igbo.

  • I'm not sure, but did the South African Lemba people not trace positive for the Cohen gene? what about Ethiopia? Is their homeland not further away from Israel than ours is? Are there not people in Nri, including Eze Nri Ènweleána himself who have claimed that their ancestors claimed to come from the Israeli-Egyptians? Did Israel not aid Biafra with tanks, ammunition, and other aid during the war? Why? Do the Igbo know where their from, do we not have an ambiguous past?

  • Igbo people originated in Igbo land. End of story. There are some sad misguided Igbo people with serious self esteem issues that keep wishing that they came from somewhere else (Israel) but we didn't.

  • Igbo people are not Homogenous, they originated from waves of migration.

The Igbo-Israel link originated from the Nri-Igbo who believe their ancestors came from Israel. The cultural similarities that were used to back up this claim cannot be ignored.

  • Get over it! We are NOT Hebrew, Jews or from Israel! Why can't you be happy being who you are?

    I'm tired. I really am.

  • Okay, regardless, I would still look into the reasons behind these claims before making my mind up.

  • I hear alot that we could possibly Hebrew but I dont know=P

  • Eze Nri Enweleana is an idiot

He should take his black self to Israel and see what they do to him there

Igbos originated in Igbo land. Stop claiming people that don't claim you and don't want to have anything to do with you

  • You can believe that the head the Igbo civilization is an idiot. He's looking for money and fame, and its the white Jews in Israel and Europe who decide who is and who is not Hebrew, ignoring the thousands of non-white (Chinese, Indian, African) Jews around the world.

  • Do you think there are any Israelis that even CARE that a random group of black people are trying to claim them?

Do you honestly think that if you went to Israel now and started calling yourself a Jew they would embrace you?

They'd laugh you into the ground and then ostracize you

  • Eh, actually the Israeli state was one of the only countries that gave aid to Biafra, although they were having a six day war (come on, even America didn't). An old Jewish shop keeper even told me they were protesting in London because of the injustices against Biafra. I don't really care anymore to explain the whole theory because everyone has a right to believe what they want and I would look as though I'm trying to 'convert' someone.

  • The fact that the Israeli state gave aid has nothing to do with any kind of anthropological connections. They just saw people suffering and sent aid. Give it up. The Israelis don't want you, me, or any other African for that matter.

Why can't you be happy with what God made you?

  • Well, your right aid has nothing to do with anthropological connections, so in that case what those a group of people giving a care about another group have to do with anthropological connections? I don't know how you got the conclusion that I'm not happy with who I am, other groups of humans have roots someplace else but are still proud of who they presently are. As I said before, everyone has a right to believe what they want.

  • obviously you are among those fomenting & insinuating this insult that Igbos are Jews. In other words, Africans could never be anything or achieve anything except Caucasian blood or culture had influence or contact. Please spread the message, ALL IGBOS ARE AFRICANS!!!! (ma ndi Igbo elu ma ala, ma ndi ukwu ma ndi nta) we are not from anywhere but Igboland AFRICA. Elements of Arab/Semantic influence is visible not only in

Igboland, but in all African cultures. DNA can nullify all this madness.

  • Can you please tell me if the Beta Israel are caucasian? Can you also tell me how it is possible for every other human group on this planet to acknowledge their origins but still be proud of who they are, but this cannot be done for the Igbo? Can you tell me a group in this world that has solely evolved from the land they are presently inhabiting? Lastly, can you tell me how a group can have Semitic influence, but do not have semitic influence? Does that make any sense?

  • I don't care if there is alpha, or beta or whatever Isreal, if they are not Caucasian, then they are foreigners who came to Africa---meaning the same thing---foreign and supreme influence on the primitive Africans.

  • OftheSoil, the igbos are African end of story. Dont waste time with the jewish nonsense. A few jews may have ventured into igbo lands, but thats it. Jewish people should be inspirational not aspirational! Can you not see the hollowness of these lies....

  • You mentioned DNA, I guess you haven't heard about the south African group in which a strong detection of the Cohanim gene were found in, ah but I guess those people are worshipping "caucasians" by having this gene running through their blood stream. Now that I think about it, you "obviously" conveniently missed out the fact that many Jews actually look like mixed race people and the fact that the Hebrews were seen as 'mulattos' in ancient times, but I guess people were mad back than.

  • Good, have you and your Hebrew originated Igbos any DNA proof? or even any slightest of biological evidence? I mean this sound so stupid in this age and time. I suggest you guys start your comparison with DNA testing first, then armed with that fact, you can continue with this dialogue, until then, I suppose you have a lot of work on your hands, so please give us a break!

  • First of all, since when have Ethiopians and south Africans been foreign to Africa, in fact since when has ancient middle eastern cultures been foreign to Africa? Second of all, you are the one that came at me, I never pushed my views or challenged any of your writing so I believe that it is you that should be giving me a break, thank you.

  • Last but not least it would be good for you to got to 09:03 onwards on this video: watch ? v = WLVFiCTm1fo

  • איך אתה יכול לשכוח איך לכתוב

  • It's called Nsibidi, apart from that I'm hoping you researched the age of that alphabet your using. After that tell me that the original Hebrews were Aryan!

  • actually yes Jews do. My boyfriend is Jewish and he talks about the Ethiopian jews. my Nigerian mother once told me Igbos were related to Jews. I looked it up online and it's true. I told my jewish boyfriend who then told his family and his father think i should look into it. i could have jewish blood. My father is Russian, he could have Jewish blood too.

  • @MissVampireDiaries Just because your boyfriend talks about Ethiopian Jews as an individual does not mean that the rest of the population of Israel cares about Igbos.

Also, Igbos are not Jews. DNA proves this. In fact, even just physical looks prove this. Igbos are completely negroid in appearance. If ANYBODY in Nigeria was secretly a Jew it would be FULANIS or maybe HAUSAS. And just because you saw something written on the internet does not make it true. Igbos are just plain old Africans.

  • @Nwuese dont speak to soon...Look at the Lemba of South Africa. They are definately "Negroid" in appearance and DNA proves that they ARE Jews.

  • @MissVampireDiaries Igbo people that go around claiming to be genetically Jewish just suffer from low self esteem and psychological trauma from colonisation. In fact, Igbos are more closely related to Yoruba, Igala, Ibibio, and Edo people than we could ever possibly hope to be related to Jews.

I really wish Igbo people would drop the whole Jewish thing. It's stupid and it makes the person saying it look so needy and desperate like they just need to feel among with a cool crowd to feel worthy.

  • @MissVampireDiaries your mother is a confused woman

  • Comment removed

  • Igbo people are too quick, lol.

  • lol

I think someone called him "ndi iberibe" at around 46 seconds into the video.

  • No! He was calling his mates 'ndi iberibe' meaning 'fools' as you cannot use 'ndi' which is plural for a person. Because his mates were getting everything wrong the speaker (Ibo boy/girl) spat at them in anger and called them 'foolish people'. He even corrected them when they said that green was green telling them it was 'Akwukwo-ndu'!

  • lol i think you clocked on after they were saying onye ocha :P.

    Nice vid

  • lovely!

  • so cute!

  • I guess you are from different part...lol

May be i spelled it wrong,How about odoh?

Maybe you are right,I thought i was right too.

Ok what is yellow then in igbo,in your own language or in general igbo language.?

  • "ndi berebe" loool, sooooo cute,

  • Yellow is "odo" I think so.

  • What part of Igboland are you from? We also say odo.

  • Abia State, Abiriba

  • Oh okay, cool. I'm from Abia State too.. Ngwa.

  • aww! they are all soo adorable!!^^

  • Duude that was the most amazing thing evar~ I get the feeling that you watch/have watched Spongebob. Either that or TX people are actually saying scary things like that in real life xD
