ralfy can you tell me little about japanese whiskys?i think you know.i have begin to be very into japanese whiskys.amazing stuff they have.very special tast,a own type tast and smell.whats the japanese do to get this type of whisky from the scotch?like nikka yamazaki and the other.they use a special oak?its the temperature?i know the the water in the karuizawa have being filtered through lava rock who made a special tast.they have so much flavor.its other japanese who use lavarock?
You mentioned there is a cask strength version of this. I've found a good price on it, but would you recommend it?? It seems to be one of the very few Serge Valentin has not reached to review yet.
Ralfy when you said this taste more like a 14 or 15 year old, is it a very strict law that distilleries have to bottle at the age written down on the label or do they sometimes cheat somehow? I'm sure they don't but I just thought it was worth makin the point...
Ralfy, are the shop-bottled whiskies exactly the same as what's in the bottle from the distillery? Or, is that price difference you mention (and that it's made to drink, not collect) an indication the whisky itself is not quite the same?
I guess, you already know what Im driving at: What whisky(s?) do you think is/are hiding behind that label? Did you try it, so that you could give it a long shot or at least exclude some of them?
Looking forward to hearing from you and best regards from the netherrhine!
Secondly, I have a question of which I think you might be the one to provide a satisfying answer to it. Since I am a german student (and germany is quite a developing country in terms of whisky) on a tight budget, I purchased a bottle of Finlaggan lately, to enter the world of Islay-Whiskies at a reasonable price.
First of all id like to thank you for your reviews and highly interesting outdoor footages. Your broadcasts are just as entertaining as they are useful, and since I am an absolute beginner concerning single malts (and spirits in general, to be precise!), I literally spent hours and hours in front of the screen Im a bit of a ralfy-addict, so to say ;)
....e-mail the whiskyexchange to buy and have the bottles sent over a building brick samples !!!, or soak a pencil sized piece of toasted oak in absinthe and after rinsing, immerse in 12 yo Caol Ila till you get a result.
well then, how disappointing! When i first saw the news about this whisky i couldnt wait for it to come to Norway. But from what you are saying now it doesnt sound like thats gonna happen :(

I don't know this version but suspect it is a good value, competent version which will not be 5 star, but a decent 3 star !

@chrish12345
cheating on age statements is illegal and fraudulent, ... what I men't was that the whisky 'seems' (smell and taste) younger than the age statement.
This is not unusual.

Not the same (usually) as official bottlings by Distilleries, these are 'Independent' versions, ... but can be just as good !!!

... lots of Whisky Specialist Retailers do it !!!
.. have their own 'house' Bottlings and act as a small Independant Bottler.
These offerings should be a bit cheaper than the Official offerings, and although standards do vary, gems can be found.
