In the opening sequence there were 5 women, tops ... and 4 teletubies. I think it's now painfully obvious that the teletuby demographic is grossly under-represented in religion/politics/America. Who's with me?
For the last 30 years it's felt like the self proclaimed evengelical Christians were slowly losing their minds...............after watching this documentary, I am extremely happy to find that they are not.
Great program............on that anyone, Christian or not, should be interested to watch.
I'm an atheist (no gods, no chance of gods, about as hardcore as it gets), but I love this documentary. It's very well done and very objective. I talked to Dan (the guy with the bumper sticker clothes), and he's a very nice fellow. I enjoy his style. The message of the documentary is awesome: we can be different and get along! No need to hate each other! :D
I love this documentary, I recommend it to any believer in Jesus. Jesus Incorporated is fading and fading fast. The Human heart is not intune with modern evangelicalsim. It is intune with love. That is Who and What Jesus is. Love. Ask the woman thrown in the town square by the religious nuts. He forgave and healed her heart, A far cry from what we see in the American Jesus INC.
@graceforusall, if you read the content of John 8, Jesus then says to the woman, "Go and sin no more." The assumption is that this is exactly what happens as she receives the forgiveness of Christ. My life was full of crazy overt sin and when Jesus opened His arms to me, He accepted me, forgave me and changed me by HIs power. If a person is in Christ, they become a new creature. If this doesn't happen, was there truly an encounter with Jesus Christ?
@K1060Bambi Religion only works for some people. Just b/c you're 'feeling it, man this is some good shit' doesn't mean everyone else will, or that they don't 'really' believe it or w/e.. I've been accused by so many xtains and catholics that I 'never believed in jesus to begin w/' b/c I lost faith.. b/c it brought me nothing but anxiety, stress, depression, guilt.. I wish people would stop trying to 'revive religion' and just let it be- believe it, don't. We're not robots or clones.
@K1060Bambi I understand what you are saying, and I agree, there is a change in a person when they meet Grace. I should have clarified the meaning of the biblical reference I used. Jesus said "He who is WITHOUT sin, cast the first stone" to me that means I am not qualified to judge. The people of God are not called to beat up people for sin and boycott everything like we do, but be salt and light to this world.
I guess the main point should be...to ppl really believe EVERYTHING in the bible is the inerrant word of the lord? If they do, they're a "fundie" and deserve ridicule for mentally abusing their kids with nonsense (like The Rapture) or buying them books like Left Behind. The the Bible...the family values jephthah had with his daughter OR Lott's morals with his daughters OR Abraham's attempt at murdering Isaac. If they don't believe IT ALL...why believe any of it? Wish thinking? Bet-hedging?
This documentary is quite capatible with Deuteronomy 15:11. which says "For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor.’
@CoastakaMichael yeah...as long as it's somebodyelse's hand that's open.just this last sunday,i saw"christians"dressed in their sunday finest,stepping over an old,sick,crippled homeless man,so they could walk into a $10,000,000,air-conditioned facility to"worship the lord,hallelujah!!!" makes me sick!!!!
Yuck. This movie is all about social justice. There's just enough good points of truth to keep you swallowing the emergent social justice lies in between.
Either you're being satirical (in which case I commend you for doing it so well) or you're serious (in which case just shut up). Are you trying to tell me that you're against doing things for people? Why? Just because Emergents do it? If that's your reasoning, and I'll try to say this as tactfully as I can but, you're an idiot.

Philip Yancey, not Phillip. Sounds like a good premise for a film, but it detracts from it to misspell a name in the first 15 seconds.

@terriergal I'm pretty sure if you actually bother to read the Gospels you'll find that Jesus was very much a fan of social justice.
MonisticWonder 1 year ago
@terriergal Actually pick up the Bible and read the Gospels. Jesus was a huge social gospel advocate. Its right there on the surface.
