@SamCoreJ It's one of two truly unique shots I can remember seeing - the other is Santoro's 'reverse through the legs lob' which is just ridiculous as well. It's on Youtube, can't remember the tournament but it was a grass court.
@rebelian7 lol Fed doesn't pull jackass moves like that, where the tweenage is completely unnecessary and could, in fact, result in massive failure (see Hidalgo v. Fed Monte Carlo 08)
@learnchinese18 Luck, sorry. The point is Federer didn't do it all on purpose, so honestly I think we cannot give him the credit for that lucky shot, it's quite simple. BUT this doesn't mean so much, since Fed has hit insane shots beside this one...
Another federer fanboy I guess. "nobody but federer" sounds a bit like what fabrice santoro fans say - "nobody but santoro" and yet I've done the santoro slice-that-bounces-and-comes-back-to-your-court a few times
@DestroyerAlexandros You compare yourself to Santoro? Wow man, what are you doing on the Tube? Go and sign in at the ATP and start playing futures! Oh, wait, I see what's going on! I hit that dropshot too, or ones with loads of sidespin, but against my buddy who hits a 500 rpm top spin, and that's being generous, coming at me at 40 km/h. Try and do that against a shot from a pro player, simply impossible. A regular person wouldn't get a point from a top 1500. Nobody but Federer, a fact.
@nico89SFX bad news - federer just go pampered by murray. I guess nobody but federer loses 5-7 5-7 to murray. and nobody but federer hits nearly 40 unforced errors against djokovic. komisch
Federers last shot looked miles out although I admit the camera angle didn't help. Damn I hate having to explain why I think it was out due to youtube pedants correcting me - youtube - the best and worst internet site. Infact, fuck it, IT WAS OUT!
No the ball was in ... I saw the match in live so stop talking shit ... Moreover, even if the point was out, why should the video stop at 0:14 ?? My god, can't you just admire the beauty of tennis instead of trying to show the whole world that you know something about it ...
aren't we all masturbating to federer? I mean, we are all on this porn site watching a federer video... but I guess some may do it more often than others.
Not to mention Rogers racquet is heavier than almost everybody elses on the atp. You can see the extra weight help him with his shots to go along with his excellent form. Thats also probably why he dosent serve it bigger than low 130s. Too much stress on the arm. I guarantee fed could hit a 140 serve if he lightened up his racquet for more racquet head speed. Using a 13.7 ounce raqcuet I couldnt serve over 100 mph. But with a 12.1 ounce I could hit into the 130s.
well I think that scientists who work and design rackets for federer know what's best for his technic, no? After all, he can hold on to his serve with ease and already won 16grand slams... and a serve is not about power.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a miss hit. Federer saw that his opponent was at the net, and to hit a backhand smash, that isn't too strong most of the time, isn't that clever, because the opponent could return it easily at the net.
The first point is all wrist. what an amazing backhand. The second is just ridiculous. Any other player would have hit a smash but he makes an unbelievable lob... Simply the best
wow, how in the world can you hit a lobbed ball with the backside of your racquet face while you are in no man's land and still manage to make it a perfect lob??
the difficulty rating of that shot is through the roof...
not to mention a bird dies at the end of its flight and loses almost all momentum. A tennis ball doesn't slow down, making that show way more difficult to control/execute
He's actually quite strong. Probably stronger than most average guys. Although technique and form are crucial to how he plays, a certain degree of physical strength is required for his style of play. For example, his wrist shot backhand requires great strength in his wrist/forearm. Also to generate as much pace/spin as he does you need to be able to swing the racquet pretty quickly. He also has great endurance, which allows him to outlast players in 5 set games
I mean he's not exceptionnaly stronger than the average man. Unlike Roddick or Nadal who are quite bigger, heavier and stronger, he doesn't rely on this to hit hard.
He's got endurance, explosiveness, but if you had him try for big weights, he'd be about as good as most guys you see here and there.
There's 3 main ways you can train your muscles.
Endurance
Power
Look
Federer surely got more endurance than most men, but if you pick him to get one maximum reps, he's only average strong.
@readmystupidcomments Yeah sure, fluked his way into 16 slam titles. Of course it was intentional. Federer is known for having the best bh overhead in the game and occasionally creates what others can't even dream of. If you can't handle that I feel sorry for you... not!
@bobbyb1978 stfu you ignorant dutch cowgirl and go get high behind the mill. if you inisist that that wasn't a fluke then you really have smoked too much of the wacky tabaccy. dutch booze fiend
Of about any other player, I could say that he shanked his shot or that he was too far in front... but here, it's Federer and he hit it dead on the center of his string bed. Also, he took great care of putting TOP SPIN on it. Watch his hand; it's like he made an inverse kick serve swing. Usually, he taps them down, he doesnT' brush them up.
Remember that he's the guy who struck a pssing shot between his legs to get match point last year versus Djocovic...
@GueorguiJoukov errrr...not convinced at all..all you've said could be flukey and occam's razor tends to agree with me so this is a fluke and all you overintellectualizing prockstick should stop your sanctimonious dicking
@fbinsulation I've actually done a backhand volley lob like that before. I went back for a volley like that and I hit the very top of the frame which caused the ball to lobe my opponent (Complete luck :p )

No, Federer isn't any stronger than the average man; he just has a perfect motion.
A backhand over head lob right on the line within the service box...
Federer is the most graceful and fluent player on the court; he is tremendously skilled and can play every shot.
This just showed how great is the margin between Federer's level and the others and this includes sir Nadal.
GueorguiJoukov 2 years ago 6
