The interesting fact about the Civil War is there is only little mention of the Irish side of the story. Many Irish fought on both sides. My Irish brothers came off the boats and had to sign up for the Union. Or come up with $500 dollars! That is the side that isn't taught in history class!

@TheTazTN Many Southern Whites opposed it, such as the great TN congressman David Crockett. And the Cherokee ultimately blamed the Feds for their position and fought with the South against the Union invasion of Dixie in the 1860s. The last Confederate general to surrender was Stan Watie, a Confederate.
Actually it was the response of ONE Southern white guy...a President Andrew Jackson to be exact, and it was far from a universally popular decision among Southern white guys...one Congressman David Crockett of Tennessee comes to mind.

Anyone who knows beans about the Civil War knows that the Confederate flag should not be a symbol of racism, but of honor, freedom, and regional pride. That is what the Confederates were fighting and dying for, and that is what they should be remembered for.
Well, I'm from the North as well, and I think the Confederate flag is a flag of racialism. This isn't necessary a bad thing. I think it's a folk symbol for the Anglo-Celtic culture of the South. Every race has their symbols, why can't white people?

It is a great thing to see a Black Southern Gentleman state the truth about Dixie.. Historians won't teach people that slavery was on it's way out and that Lincoln did not make it an issue until year 2 of the war had past, with the North losing. There were already 200,000 free blacks in the south prior to 1861, with one of them being one of the richest men in Atlanta who owned many businesses and lived in a mansion until the Yankees came and destroyed what this black man had accomplished.

Did you know the confederates had whites and blacks that both agreed to participate in the war. The Blacks and whites were paid equally and not segregated. The union also had whites and blacks participate but they segregated the blacks from the whites and paid them much less.

It was cheap labor that made the south as rich as it was, because they could work the slaves without paying them. Why do you think the South became so poor after the war? I have met HK before, I used to be a hardcore Confederate reenactor, and I am against them and the SCV today. I am glad the south lost. I don't believe they fought for slavery, but they did fight to make a Christian nation, and I think there would have been so much persecution against non-Christians today had they won. The South flew under the Stars and Stripes for 85 YEARS up until 1861 (1776-1861) then it was officially retired by the Union when the South surrendered four years later. That is a total of 234 years for the Stars and Stripes vs 4 for the Confederate flag.

@randyguitarman13 I would never say it had nothing to do with slavery. I would assert though it was primarily about conquest and taxation. Even Grant said if it were about slavery he would quit the war. It wasn't until half-way through the war that Lincoln, seeing how badly things were going for the Empire, tried to turn it into a moral quest in order to keep the Europeans out of it and try to put a good spin on his invasion. If it were about slavery, slavery could have been ended peacefully.

Northern white liberals hate the entire South, not just Southern whites. They hate whites, blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asians, mulattos, Jews, Arabs, and anyone who is born and bred in Dixie. They're not content to take pride in their own heritage (something which they seldom ever do), but they think they have to degrade other people's heritage. And the Cherokee ultimately blamed the Feds for their position and fought with the South against the Union invasion of Dixie in the 1860s. The last Confederate general to surrender was Stan Watie, a Confederate.

Anyone who knows beans about the Civil War knows that the Confederate flag should not be a symbol of racism, but of honor, freedom, and regional pride. That is what the Confederates were fighting and dying for, and that is what they should be remembered for.

It is a great thing to see a Black Southern Gentleman state the truth about Dixie.. Historians won't teach people that slavery was on it's way out and that Lincoln did not make it an issue until year 2 of the war had past, with the North losing. There were already 200,000 free blacks in the south prior to 1861, with one of them being one of the richest men in Atlanta who owned many businesses and lived in a mansion until the Yankees came and destroyed what this black man had accomplished.

The real reason for the war was when lincoln raised the tax rate from 20% to 46% thats when they separated. Did you know the confederates had whites and blacks that both agreed to participate in the war. The Blacks and whites were paid equally and not segregated. The union also had whites and blacks participate but they segregated the blacks from the whites and paid them much less.

It was cheap labor that made the south as rich as it was, because they could work the slaves without paying them. Why do you think the South became so poor after the war? I have met HK before, I used to be a hardcore Confederate reenactor, and I am against them and the SCV today. I am glad the south lost. I don't believe they fought for slavery, but they did fight to make a Christian nation, and I think there would have been so much persecution against non-Christians today had they won. Nowhere does the Bible uphold religious freedom. Just as Saudi Arabia is ran by the Qaran, the South would have been ran by the Bible, resulting in a disaster for civil liberty.

Even Grant said if it were about slavery he would quit the war. It wasn't until half-way through the war that Lincoln, seeing how badly things were going for the Empire, tried to turn it into a moral quest in order to keep the Europeans out of it and try to put a good spin on his invasion. If it were about slavery, slavery could have been ended peacefully.

A racist knows the difference between races and makes their own opinion whether hateful or not. A bigot hates with no reason other than color of skin. But then we could get into the discussion of realists. lol. Racism in general is so blown out of proportion anymore it makes me sick. The Confederate flag isn't about racism or bigotry, it's about pride. Pride in where you're from.

I feel when he said "Don't come down here and hate, come down here with understanding" A-lot of people just dont understand what the "Confederate flag means to South Carolinians. @TCMN1, I love America too. But I dispise the US Federal Government b/c of what it has done to America. We don't need that awful government and all the evils it inflicts upon us and the world. We in the South for example have our own culture and we value just being left alone. We don't like the taxes, regulations, corruption, etc of Washington, DC. I personally wish that city would just slide into the ocean - America would be better off without it.
