  • Not a whole lot Bowtie - 16:1 Wisecos (yes i paid the extra pennies and had em made), Accel coils on a stock box, 2 brothers cam ground for the Wisecos, TRW Stainless crank - All titanium alloy gears cut by me and the rear pumpkin got re geared to 1.8:1... Plus of course the Carbs have been tweaked on... Dumps the whole tank in 1/4 mile or give me about 80 miles range around town.

  • @dawino6260 Im talking stock tho. i run a 10.9 BRAND NEW. 30 years later,i might get like high 11's im guessing. Im pushing 120hp at 7500 RPMs. ill smoke any new 600. Gixxer, R6, CBR.....

  • @BowtieLS6 Yeah... I dont build em back to stock - I build em back to like we really ran em back when we were still running them....You can easily bring yourself into the 9's with just a good set of accel coils

  • i own a stock 83 V65 magna.. just curious tho, wat will it compete against new? i figure like any 600cc. my buddy has a street legal KTM 380 2 stroke dirtbike. he says he can beat me out of the hole

  • @BowtieLS6 - Stock you turn 173 on the top end and you can eat most V-max's except the 83/84 pre-satety ones A stock Non-turbo Busa you gotta hoe he doesnt miss a shift - If you are running pure stock with no descent ignition - avoid Kawi ZX's from the ZX11 on if they are fuel injected - if they are carbureted - hope like heck they are bone stock and its all a matter of whose gonna shift better - You are an even match for GSXR/SRADS 1100cc or under (you have the raw Torque - they have ponies)

  • @dawino6260 If you're referring to Magnas on the top speed the 173 was a mathmatical top speed, not actual. Also, there were no 83/84 VMaxes and '85-07 were all 145hp vboost bikes in the states.

  • @RosieKR Swap the pumpkin out and you can get them over 250 -- I have a custom gearset but I've also used the rears out of the 10 speed CB900's back when I was still playing drag bike with it -- 173 is pretty realistic for a stock bike - might hit 180 but they wont hold it - by 190 you are so far past the redline you are shortening your valvetrains life a big bunch (usually just re-shim em and go but I've broken the gear part of the cams a couple of times)

  • @dawino6260 You don't just swap the pumpkin on a Magna, the 2 gear options are 3.18 and 3.40. 3.18 is stock. The 173 "top speed" was mathmatical in '83, meaning that theoretically, with the 3.18 gearing, the bike could go 173 but in reality it just doesn't have the power to push itself that fast. Something like a zx1400 or 'busa can manage it because of the technology that was put into their aerodynamics.

Perhaps you should peek in my vids or at my pics on my myspace -- I DO just swap the pumpkins out -- Kind of an advantage of being a retired aerospace nerd able to do my own machine work... What you think is hard is really easy.....Albeit time consuming beyond most peoples patience levels.. My bone stock one (properly tuned) hits 190 no prob - agreed as it left the factory 160 was a problem - most people wont take the time to set them up right - I do

  • @BowtieLS6 You're not going to compete with 600cc+ sport bikes in the twisties or the drag(unless they can't launch). The big bikes that will give you a run for your money if your bike is in top running condition would be something like a VMax and VRod(in the cruiser category).

  • LOL at quader98....Ummm you wanna put up a title against mine? I'll even be nice and pay the track -- The V65 Sabres is 30lbs lighter than the Magna - uses the same engine/drivetrain and is still one of the fastest production bikes of all time (in the top 10) -- Mine aint stock neither - 3 busa turbos and a zx14 in my collection from dummies who put up their titles -- you next?

  • I love the V4 engines, having owned 2 interceptors but KAWI is always king in my book. Especially on the track

  • @LordSamuelJ oh, little sammy sammy, you've got some learnin to do :] you obviously know nothing about magnas if you think a stock h2 will eat a stock v65. your horribly mistaken, maybe if you were ever in that situation the v65 rider was a squid, thats the only scenario

  • @bountyhunterpro oh little bounty bounty child. Its strange you say that seeing how my 100% stock H1 keeps up with my nephew's v65. As a motorcycle/small engine mechanic I know that the v65 is difficult to work on and tune (see I know something about magnas). I hate to have to bash your beloved V65, but sorry man your bike is quick at best. When was the last time u road an H2?? Whats that?? Never?? thought so.
