Actually, this method of harvesting the honey is sustainable, and is thus supported by the government as a way to help both local culture and biodiversity. The main problems are decline in young hunters to learn from the elders, and eradication of the native flora on which the bees feed and pollinate. Tourism dollars can help a lot -- you can book a trip to witness the honey hunting. This honey is used in medicine, and is highly valuable -- thus the title "Wild Gold."

i agree Gurkhas has made Nepal popular but not Gurkhas aren't just Gurung Rai or whatever.And there ain't not just Gurungs and Rais and Magars in Gurkha Brigade. OSushil you must have forgotten that all the ppl from Gorkha are called Gurkhas.

This is a really good documentary which has shown the work of corageous honey hunters in the mountains.I guess before watching this video even Nepalese people didn't had any idea about honey hunters.
