@river11562 he only made this video just to should u one way to make a sheath really u can use 2 pieces of wood but u have to hallow out the mid of it for the sword and u can sand it down and yes u have to sand down any uneven wood
Why the fuck would you use epoxy OR superglue? That's what wood glue is made for, moron! Also, acetone dissolves super glue with ease. Gasoline or acetone should dissolve small amounts of dried epoxy.
I recently bought arwens sword from Lord of the rings, and the blade is slightly off center where it is connected to the handle. It is full tang, which means the blade runs all the way through. How much do I have to worry about cracking the handle if I mess with it, or even hold it straight out for that matter?
PLEASE tell me you have some kind of pegs or bolts in the tang and handle of the blade, that shit is dangerous if the apoxy ever wears out, could hurt someone if you were to use it god forbid, although the sheath is pretty sweet though not gonna lie lol

For those who don't want to blacken the blade but also want to prevent rust. For a small price you can buy a sword maintenance kit which comes with oil that is used to prevent rusting. The kits also come with other things for your sword maintaining needs. Just search the net or some videos on where to get them and how to clean a sword properly.
@DarkChaoto it's even cheaper(and easier) to use wax. I'm using lip balm on all my weapons and they never rust. besides, it doesn't need redoing if the blade hasn't been used (if i remember correctly, you have to reoil every few months even if the swords resting in the sheath)
@BloodyRSVids my advice too you is either become cloud from final fantasy, run away from the contry and or sharpen the blade a little extra so that it will cleave them easier also i forgot too add make two so that youcan block more than one person
A MUCH EASIER WAY - You could wrap the blade in some waxpaper and repeat the process from the handle-grip, so that the blade won t get glued to the wood. But the waxpaper will remain in the sheath and it is actualy a good thing since you may have some friction in it.
well, made videos. I picked up alot of tips from you. the sharpening was a nice touch. I will be making a sword with your techniques soon. The sheath and handle Idea are an awesome solution to problems I've been having. thank you so much!
@Thunderchin if you were to serrate a sword, it wouldn't work properly because swords are for slashing, but putting a serrated edge would force you to pull it back and forth to make a cut
@PlottedFate if you got the tools, but not the main materials I would say 20 dollars at the least if you buy poor materials, but the price could be 100 dollars.
I also purchased a gauge for my bench-top grinder that allowed me to set exact angles. Made grinding the blade a HELL of a lot easier and it only cost me $15 (AUD) from Bunnings. I also tried both chiseling 2 slightly larger pieces of wood and your 4 part handle/scabard and the 2 piece is really easy to do if you mark the blade and just with a thin plane and chisel ($25 ish for both) groove out the sections.
Fantastic Video, was really impressed at how well you explained each step. I followed it all with considerable ease and am now the proud owner of a distinctly sharp piece of tempered metal that we so lovingly call a sword.
Just a few things I did that you may be interested in trying, I used gun oil/sewing machine oil on the blade instead of vegetable oil. Its quite a lot thicker and I seem to have gotten a much "cleaner" look in the blackening process...PTO
wow nice work. and i can see some idiots that commented on this don't apreciate the trouble you went though to show us this.
i've actually been looking for a way to make a katana but i never expected to find a video on how to make it straight instead of curved; which is how i prefer it. i'm definetely gonna try this in the near future when i have time on my hands. if i find out anything new ill be sure to tell u. ^^
Sorry but this must be said if you seriously are planing of doing any real work with a sword or practice ect. do not follow this advice, it will get you seriously injured. if all you want is a piece of crap metal that is good for nothing with an edge on it then fine be an idiot and follow this kids advice. He has no clue what he is talking about dont follow the stupid, these blades will snap if you hit something hard with it and then you have a giant piece of sharp steel flying in the air.
im just wounder what do u use to plug the holes at the end by the way nice job on the sword but instead of blackenin u could also use atainless steel right
@Strothy2 ehem he said at that point it actually wasnt quite done :P I was just really cold and impatient and said screw it ill video what i've got X3
@axel08ish You could chisel out the center of a wider piece of wood and do the same with the other piece, sandwiching them over the blades unsharpened "handle" end.
@axel08ish I bet you you could measure the thickness and then trace the shape of the blade on the inner part of the sheath then just sand half the blade thickness out of each side then glue it but i reccomend putting the glue closer to the outter part of the sheath so it dosn't effect the drawing of the sword
dude to make a blade handle and sheath you get two boards of wood and trace the blade out and chisel the middle and glue them together that way the handle comes of for cleaning. (thats the original swordsmithing way)
hey um i live in the states and im on a $70 budget and i have grip tape from a skate board and its water proof so will that work instead of the sand paper??...
Im making the sword for an older sibling who is graduating from college...
@ricanboy101 Lol? You better have made a quality sword for 70 dollars. It should cost very little if you have any idea what you are doing; which you dont.
you should of made a last video showing the finished sheath and the handle with tape or any other finishing touches on it great vid im probubly gonna but a grinder and start making some swords of my own ( i allready have swords its just id like to say "i made this")
wrong wrong alll wrong... u dont use 4 pieces of wood to make a tsuka u use 2 and u make the grain flow toward the cutting edge. that thing will fall apart eventually.
@clos19851 uhm... did I ever saythis was a tsuka? This is a beginner sword that is supposed to me simple to make and cheap to build. It is overly obvious I am not making a folded Tamahagane Katana here.
your voice is very calm, all the freakin' time. what you smokin man? lol jk could you imagine if i were like that? you probably can.ಠ̯ಠ naw... good vid though :)
if krazie glue gets on ur hands or fingers just wait for it to dry and then peel it off, u can keep it on there but it makes ur finger tips useless on picking things up, well for me it does. your correct about that
why dont you just use 5:45 epoxy, its only 15 seconds you could play with ur sword for 5 minutes go get a drink of water come back out and it would be done... lol 6 minute epoxy
uhm.. ya I know that.... Thats why its called a homemade sword :\ I've never said it was perfect its just a very shallow basis of making an elementary blade. a handle that is functional and not amazing is better than no handle at all...
you might like to clamp the pieces of wood horizontally instead of vertically like you had at at about 6:06. that way the timber is receiving pressure from the vice all the way along the wood, and not just in one place, thus achieving a stronger bond together.
Wow, seriously thank you, i would've been at this for ages just cutting to slabs of wood and sticking em over each other :P 5 stars!
Can i just ask though, at 4:40 and 5:44 where is the blade in the centre of the pieces of wood? And where do i put the glue? on all the pieces or just the second two?
Thanks in advance! Well done on the vid! Best out there :P
Your very welcome! :3 I don't really get what you mean by asking where the blade is o.o but the blade is facing toward the ground in the part, I was only putting the first two sections of the handle together. Ya you'll want to put the glue on all the pieces for the handle, and for the sheath just rewatch that part until you are confident you know exactly what i'm doing. thats the trickiest part of the sheath making process.
Ya it was, it was getting really cold outside by the time I finished the video, so I just didn't really bother getting it to exact specifications before ending the video :P You should customize the handle to your specific hand size, thats always best.
Hehe I know, I was getting pretty cold and bored so I packed it in earlier. I later took a ton off the handle with a hobby knife and sanded it again. If the handle isn't just right it deteriorates the cut quality too because you can't have a proper grip. Cutting properly seems really simple but is definitely an art in its self o.o
hm i dont know much about katana style handles but could you burn a hole in wood by heating the end of blade and pushing ito wood ? then use some kind of end piece to seal it?
You could, but it would take a long time and the heat might make the wood fracture slightly, compromising the integrity of the wood. You can try it though :3 Post a vid if you get around to doing it I'd love to see it! :D
I used to :P good anime, kinda borderline juvenile though sometimes :P I much prefer bleach and some of the more obscure kinds of anime. Glad you liked the tutorial! :D
wouldn't it be easier to get a long and thick (yea yea, you dirty bastards, not you man) piece of wood and cut it in to two pieces then file off some of the inside then glue them together?

Can i just ask though, at 4:40 and 5:44 where is the blade in the centre of the pieces of wood? And where do i put the glue? on all the pieces or just the second two?
Thanks in advance! Well done on the vid! Best out there :P
Addycoolman 2 years ago
Your very welcome! :3 I don't really get what you mean by asking where the blade is o.o but the blade is facing toward the ground in the part, I was only putting the first two sections of the handle together. Ya you'll want to put the glue on all the pieces for the handle, and for the sheath just rewatch that part until you are confident you know exactly what i'm doing. thats the trickiest part of the sheath making process.
Good luck! :D

Did you ever finish the sheath/handle completely? Or did you leave them like that?
Amras0407 2 years ago
no offense but ur handle looks really crappy, its reaaaally bulky, u should sand it down a bit more
kapoof2 2 years ago
Ya it was, it was getting really cold outside by the time I finished the video, so I just didn't really bother getting it to exact specifications before ending the video :P You should customize the handle to your specific hand size, thats always best.
CryosWolf 2 years ago
that was the best guide ever

Thank you :D
CryosWolf 2 years ago
hey that sword may have a comfy grip but its way to wide for your hand if u tried to fight with that you'd be easily disarmed
lanson0 2 years ago
Hehe I know, I was getting pretty cold and bored so I packed it in earlier. I later took a ton off the handle with a hobby knife and sanded it again. If the handle isn't just right it deteriorates the cut quality too because you can't have a proper grip. Cutting properly seems really simple but is definitely an art in its self o.o

hm i dont know much about katana style handles but could you burn a hole in wood by heating the end of blade and pushing ito wood ? then use some kind of end piece to seal it?
lanson0 2 years ago
You could, but it would take a long time and the heat might make the wood fracture slightly, compromising the integrity of the wood. You can try it though :3 Post a vid if you get around to doing it I'd love to see it! :D
CryosWolf 2 years ago
No offence but that sounded stupid. If you can do that the I want to see it.

xxjesusxxfreakxx247 2 years ago
Sure :3 It may take a while, it's too wet for me to finish the sheath outside right now :\ I'll try my best :3

I used to :P good anime, kinda borderline juvenile though sometimes :P I much prefer bleach and some of the more obscure kinds of anime. Glad you liked the tutorial! :D

83emil83 2 years ago
for all the supplies including sandpaper and the materials brobably about 20- maybe 25 dollars.
CryosWolf 2 years ago
wouldn't it be easier to get a long and thick (yea yea, you dirty bastards, not you man) piece of wood and cut it in to two pieces then file off some of the inside then glue them together?
9mandazi9 2 years ago
at first when i saw you making the handle i thought you were crazy but now thats its done its look very nice.
Great job
zammystavez 2 years ago
X3 I know, it looks quite far fetched at first :P it takes a LONG time to get just right though. thanks for the compliment! :D
CryosWolf 2 years ago
yeah no problem but i dont think i can make the handle like that because i dont have a belt sander so it would take a long time
zammystavez 2 years ago
You can do the same thing with a hobby knife and a rotary tool with a sanding head attached. :3 Those are a lot cheaper than belt sanders.
CryosWolf 2 years ago
Wow, that looked really awesome! Is this the last part?
jehrohm 2 years ago
Yup, this is the final step of this tutorial :3 Customization is up to you! :D

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to use thinner pieces of wood for the sides if you're gonna sand down do much in the first place?
