Enquirys should be made ....were not getting any younger ...if footage exists of the 17 t h - just splice it with the 16th sound ....i'm not fussy - good substitute -as close as we will get. We have the magic live recording - all we need to do now is unearth the silent film footage -hidden in some dusty old japanese basement ?

It may be video of the Deep Purple tour of Japan in August 1972, but it is NOT the version of Highway Star that is on the Made In Japan live double album!

The version of 'Highway Star' on the Made In Japan album was recorded in Osaka on the '16th' of August 1972, not 17th and is the BEST verson of the song

that they have EVER recorded!

All of the other versions of this song, pale in comparison to the genuine version, which is featured on my channel if anybody wants to check it out. It rocks!

@saeidmomtahan - I think it odd why the original doesn't seem to be here, although I haven't looked for it for some time. I Tried an upload ages ago but removed it because of copyright issues and not knowing much about that. Hoping the original is uploaded soon as it is the best by far imho + even if no film clips exist the audio surely does and it would be great to see that online as it really rocks.

@saeidmomtahan this footage is from tokyo the day after the song that is on made in japan :) if you buy the album Deep Purple - Live in Japan, you can hear the three concerts they did down there!

@CameraJams this is the version from Tokyo, 17th august? It is on the live in japan album, which is a album with all the concerts they did in Japan. I agree that the version from the 16th is the best :)

@maghole - Thanks. That version recorded on the 16th on Made In Japan just sounds cooler in every way for me. Especially the organ, guitar and vocals, but just everything about it rocks really and I hope to see it somewhere here at some point.

@CameraJams I think the whole show in Tokyo was filmed, but with a camera without sound, so they had to edit the sound in when they found the films...I'm not sure if the show in Osaka was filmed...

@maghole - Pity they didn't have technology we have now to have recorded those concerts then. Be great to see footage from the Made In Japan album. Maybe somebody does have some cine of it, but they never did anything with it?

There's a cool Child In Time video here. Link didn't seem to post here but enter 'deep purple child in time tv' and it's the 2nd in the list. My fave line up as well.

Pity about the audience looking so bored though.

@CameraJams maybe...I think this footage of them in Japan was found in the basement of an old warehouse somewhere, so it could be that the other concerts was filmed as well...I'll check it out! ;)

This footage was recently unearthed from 8mm sources,looks like quirte a good transfer.Thanks to all involved on the rediscovery of this classic lost Deep Purple footage.Now, to only be able to see the remaining 22 minutes of the show as Dimagg1973 asked!Would be very much appreciated if possible?

There are additional 22 minutes of that show, some number of roles of that footage was discovered.

hair style is different because the cover pictures were from another gig,june 72 at the Rainbow in London.The clip is clearly genuine,but it ISNT of the same night the original Made in Japan version of Highway Star .This clip is Tokyo 17th august,album has 2nd night Osaka on the 16th.

I said the same thing. This is from the 17th at the Budakan. The version on MIJ was from the 16th in Osaka. Whether there is any footage of those shows I don't know. But still these are the MIJ shows as there called now.
