  • how about a documentary on why they are really there.

we all know thats never going to happen.

  • nationalistic fanaticism is no better than religious fanaticism. killing for country doesnt make it any more honorable.

  • Not the first foray into an Iraq war theme. After the Sopranos he played the sceptical General Miller in the Iraq war satire In the Loop.

  • "Soldiers don't go to hell"

  • Does he really deserve to host something like this?

  • so should people sympathize with soldiers that were hired to participate in an illegal war?

that was their choice and they paid for that choice

  • @Darusdei I think it's a bit unfair of you to imply that someone shouldn't sympathize with these soldiers pain, because after all, they do and have gone through pain and are human beings, just because you think that they participated in an unjust war. You're denying their humanity and that they are sentient beings who feel pain because of your BELIEFS which in the end, are just fairly tale fabrications that don't exist while their pain does.

  • @cosmicmantis well maybe it was a little harsh. but then again when a war is just a choice and a pay check.

i feel for them, tough luck and all but that's what they signed up for.

  • @Darusdei Yeah, it's not like there's a draft. If there was than it would definitely be easy to feel sympathy.

  • @batboyjhg would propably be alot harder to start a war when everyone must contribute

  • Iraq was a waste of time it had nothing to do with 9/11...

  • Boo hoo. How about you do a documentary about the piece of shit politicians putting them there in the first place. Or the ONE MILLION innocent iraqis dead. Those people dont matter though, right? They're arab. fuck the US government.

  • @georgieonfire yeah, this is true...even tho im a big fan of gandolfini..

  • It's so weird to hear him talk without a thick New Jersey accent.

  • @cavaleri These 2 fucking turds have more hate than the Insurgents and soldiers combined, sad and their only acomplishment is to seat in front of a PC and talk shit, some balls they got uh? cowards= Cobarde.

  • @katrachosps US soldier?... US?... Where were you born?. No es una pc. Y seguramente vos estás parado, no?. Cowards es plural. Cobarde, singular. Aprendé el idioma español como yo aprendí el tuyo y por favor no insultes, yo no te falto el respeto. Thank you very much.

  • thanks gandolfini thanks alot for sending many soldiers in iraq to hell (where they belong)

i don´t fucking care if they are homeless these pieces of shit soldiers will say "hello" to satan on they´re way down.

james is a good man because of him many soldiers died :D

  • @pimpollito18 Well someone's an asshole

  • @mindylinky !!NIGGA YOU BEEN TROLLED ¡¡

  • that's what you got when u fuck with an arab country hahahaha

I can guarantee that the casualties of Iraq war are extremely catastrophic from the US side but the networks the fucking media doesn't present that shit

  • @JackEl3elm lol Are you retarded? Iraq has a population of under 30 million. The Iraqis spend more time killing each other than American / Western soldiers. The Sunnis and Shiite take out a few hundred of each other every other day. And for every American killed, 100 Iraqis civilians "insurgents" and actual guerilla fighters die. Iraq is being bled by this conflict.

  • @maddingo12

dude am not a retarded but instead of that i want u please to listen to ur self when you describing the US invasion to Iraq as a positive thing! It's not dude never was !! and I'll tell u why ? I used to live in a neighbor country to Iraq and I saw what was happening over there with an actual eye :) man they were doing just fine I mean it's not like in the US or else where u find the freedom but Jesus !! they weren't killin each other as u said their previous leader was pretty ----

  • @JackEl3elm --- strict leader and had them all in line even when they were forced to be under air blockade 1990 till 2003 they were takin care of them selves just fine. The only reason they bombed and killed enemies is just cuz they're defending them selves. It's a war it's self defense kill or u'll be killed. what do u expect them to do ?

  • Excellent documentary. I suggest everyone watch it and keep their political views to themselves.

  • Respect.

  • that black guy looks like shaq

  • luitenent hottie

  • on 9/11 too :(

  • Bravo Mr. Gandolfini.

  • Joe Pesci says hallo!!

  • Its so hard to listen to James without the Italian accent. He sounds so much better with it.

  • i think the vietnam veterans had it worse than these guys.

    still pretty bad though :(

  • Comment removed

  • *nod of the head* "I understand" could that be any more cheesy!haha its embarrassing.

  • Not political? This is a pro-Iraq documentary. I love Gandolfini, and I have love and respect for every member of the US armed forces, but this project is very political whether intended or not.

  • @Crust218

You never saw the actual documentary, did you? If you had you'd know that the politics behind the Iraq War are NEVER discussed or even broached. The soldiers talk about their injuries, how they were incurred and the extent of them, and that's it.

You say you have respect for the soldiers, but draw the line when they want to tell their personal stories?

  • FINALLY!!! An actor who isn't a weird liberal hate America idiot.

  • @bigart1993 Agreed!!

  • good man

  • i cant believe some people think tony soprano is real!! what did they think it was, a reality tv show!!!!?

  • im learning more and more just how stupid some people are... it's incredible. theres like two different species of people.

  • Why don't you take an English class and learn to how to write properly? While you are there, sign up for a Geography class as well. Simply amazing how fucking dumb people are these days.

  • amareto35=moron

  • CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESY

  • u are.

  • I believe Tony Soprano was a role, i.e. Gandolfini was acting.

  • yea i know, but the guy is from new jersey

  • and thus?

  • o rly?

  • I never knew Tony Soprano was such a big hearted softy !!! I am a soprano's fan along with my 19 yr old son in the USMarine Corps. Thank you Gandolphini for your documentary. I haven't seen it yet but I look forward to viewing it soon. Keep up the good work.

  • Wow. Its strange hearing him speak without the New Jersey accent. He sounds soooooo different. This is a great doc by the way. James is a great actor, and above all, a great man.

  • OMG I know! Talk about surprise! He's so un-mafia now.

  • LOL! I know right? =)

  • probably tuned it down for tv

  • LOL!

  • James Gandolfini is the coolest and nicest person ever!!!

  • What an incredible actor. That people are so disappointed to hear him be himself demonstrates that clearly.

  • not only an incredible actor, but one incredible person

  • wow its so depressing to hear him talk in an all american man voice without the north jersey accent!

    wow

  • Mr.J.G. has provided another beautiful example representative of the kinship he feels with all people. More importantly, of course, he has generously shed light on the concept of "Alive Day." Thank you, James. Keep doing what you do, and may you know great happiness and contentment. We are ALL honorable peasants in a world where all humans are valued equally, because we serve and love each other.

  • How can james gandolfini no be political. Life is politics! everyone should know what they are fighting for and not just go to war blindly. loyalty to a stupid president for a fake war was a disaster. why exploit their losses and not explain why. I am loyal and that does not mean I would fight in a war that i don't believe in. Your first loyalty is to your conscience not your COUNTRY!!

  • HA HA HA

    he's got goggle tans

  • He is a really kind-hearted person.

  • Its fucking weird hearing him talk without the new york dialect

  • nu joizee, lol!

  • One of my uncles lost a leg at Stalingrad, his brother stepped on a land mine in Poland, and his in-law an arm somewhere on the Western Front.

  • Notice how the people who's name is not James only receive snippets of footage, even though they embody what this whole thing is about.

GANDOLFINI ROCKS, YEAH!! AMERICA RULES, YEAH!

    (Gandolfini does actually rock).

  • To all of the service, men and women who serve or have served. Thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice You are in my prayers. Don't let the spookies get to you while vulnerable they will try and turn you for their own twisted needs.

    T

  • How can anyone make statements as to JG. He kept himself out of this and made this about the soldiers. To watch this rips ones heart out and not to is beyond shameful. The men and women went to war to defend America. Forget politics and parties. It does not belong here. They were lied to and denied access to post 9/11 intel.

It time "We The People", in mass stand with and advocate for the finest Americans any one of use will ever have the honor of meeting.

Honor them with acts of selflessness

  • hes a mobster in real life bett

  • I would like to see him behind prison

  • it looks so strange to see Tony soprano here...

  • lol wtf mafia boss making a documentary about the war in africa? he is a criminal he should be behind bars!

  • u stupid?

  • I just finds that there mafia should not be on tv getting famous. He isnt taking the world war 3 serious he is just fake person criminal

  • Are you on glue?

  • you want proof? watch the documentary called the sorpagoes he is a fucking boss gangs!

  • The UN should have gotten rid of Saddam Hussein. Dropping bombs and killing so many innocent people is what you do as a last resort.

  • wtf his voice is completle different

  • You are joking right? James Gandolfini only plays a killer than doesn't make him a killer in real life.

  • he has killed many

  • lol... come on! His not a real mafia! His an actor! he did that boring Christmas movie with Ben Aflec a while back! If you really thought that he was a real mobster...lol... then the Directure and actors did thiere thing right!

  • he are a mafias I saw him in a documentary about mafia and he was mafia boss!

  • @Alfrunk is this a joke, or are you really that stupid?

  • wow james gandolfini's accent is different outside of the sopranos..

  • richeter75 asks "Where you as concerned when they died under Saddam, the torture chambers and the constant fear? Right."

Do you mean back when he was an ally? Back right after Reagan took Iraq OFF the list of "terrorist nations" so that he could sell arms- including WMDs- to Saddam? Google "Rumsfeld Saddam" and learn some history. Our country's memory doesn't even go back 25 years, it's terrifying.

  • You must have really wet your pants when you realized that *gasp* in WWII,Russia was *gasp* our ALLY!! Isn't that terrifying to your little quisling mind??

  • What about the thousands of men, women and children in Iraq? What about their 'alive day'.

  • You're fucked in the head if you believe that.

  • not really.

God did say that Israel was the "apple of his eye."

of course God WON'T turn his back on us...assuming you believe that way in the first place.

  • there's no way you can talk about american soldiers in Irak without getting into politics.

  • props to jim, what a great way to voice whats going on over there.

  • That is very humble of Gandolfini. Respect.

  • Support peace, not war.

  • I'd like to know how the people are doing there...the Iraqi people? Nobody gives a shit cause Americans are killers, murderers, i'd like to see how the people would do if there country was facing internal war. The iraq war is total horseshit

  • James is the fuckn man

  • i look at him i hear tony soprano talkin

  • james gandolfini is a fucking awesome actor

  • Jim :D Cool!

Thanx for posting this, I didn't even know about his documentary for they don't talk about this stuff in Italy. Thanx there's ppl like James ;)

  • let's keep this nice hey. look i don't agree with what the politicians are doing with the military. i feel bad for these guys who like many of us were conned by the faked intelligence reports and the media. But gandolfini is right to do what he did here. honouring the soldiers who put their lives on the line to, as far as they knew protect americans and britons everywhere. it's not their fault they were conned by their government.

  • nice said

  • what about the iaqi pepole wich rican soliders has killed

  • You mean the baathists and insurgents? The Iraqis have an elected government and things have never been better..

  • no i dont mean bathies but all the other unguilty pepole

  • You think the price of freedom is free?

  • no i dont think that..my father have fought against saddam for 20 years but america come and killed many innocent pepole.

  • And u think if we secured his tyranny it would be better? Gimme a break!. The torture chambers in exchange of 12 million iraqies voting! .. Ure a sad human beeing!.

  • ey im not a sad person...but and i hate saddam...but i say you pepole just talk about the american soliders who are dead in the war and its about 4000 thousand,,but why dont you ever talk about the million iraqi pepole who has died in the war..where they all bathies?

  • hehe...he called him Jim. lol

I wish he would have called him T

  • James Gandolfini is a class act. God bless those who come back from Iraq with issues. Fuck George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

  • wish someone would do a documentary on the million plus iraqis that have died + wounded.

  • giant24us you posted the best comment ever!

me too i ask myself, what about the millions of innocent iraqis who are being displaced and killed

  • Where you as concerned when they died under Saddam, the torture chambers and the constant fear? Right.

  • its great that james did this...its weird hearing him talk out of his tony soprano charecter..keep thinkiin hes gonna say ohh take it easy christopher hehhe

  • That's pretty cool of James.

  • i will thank you

  • makes me think about the Tillmans of America. They feel duty bound to do something for their nation. Here was a guy that wasn't going to just take the spoils of the American dream. What happened? Killed by american bullets. I was all set to go to Iraq and offer whatever I could as well. As time moves on I learned the war wasn't about American honor or defense. I do believe Iraq was a potential disaster and US had to do something before Iran did. I just believe it could have been handled better.

  • google the name ayad allawi ..he is the iraqi ex prime minister .. he so looks like james

  • The video makes two points: this isn't about Gandolfini, and it's NOT POLITICAL. These comments make me sad.

War is a horrible thing, always has been and always will be due to the dark side of human nature. This documentary is simply putting faces to the numbers and stories we hear in the news.

  • somebody should make a documetary about the thousands of innocent Iraqi children that have had their arms and legs blown off by the American soldiers.

  • okay, you do it...

  • God bless James and for recognizing the pain of what the U.S troops are going through and god bless the soldiers who have served the U.S and are still fighting for their lives at home.

If I had the opportunity to vote in the U.S I would make sure my President was going to take care of my veterans, I hope any of the U.S.A people will do the same when the time comes to cast their vote.

  • James Gandolfini is a good man!!!

  • I still can't get the mental image of TOny Soprano out of my mind when i watch him...

  • I am sorry for those people who had suffered in Iraq but don't forget more than 100.000 Iraqis who died because of American invasion, don't forget 3.000 Serbians killed in American bombarding... They didn't wanted war and Americans forced them to make war, so I am not happy because of american victims but I don't feel either sorrow for them because they asked for it.

  • Well then again you also have to blame the insurgents too. I mean driving a carbomb into a market isnt helping people either.

  • There wouldn't be any insurgents if American invasion didn't happened and it wouldn't be also any American victims and Iraq victims. Americans bring death and destruction wherever they can because it's a matter of destroying whole world accept USA.

  • support the troops not the war. and to all those idiots posting about the sopranos...get a grip this shit i more inportant.

gandolfini- one more troop in the war against bush

  • omg, he sounds so weird in real life.

i'm just waiting for him to say "COCKSUCKER".

  • Heh heh, James is Tony Soprano in real life, minus the Mob connection and murders.

  • ManilaSyndicate, in fantasy he was Anthony Soprano Sr. but in this documentary Alive Day: Memories Of Iraq & in real life he is James Gandolfini the actor, there is a difference between the two. The Sopranos is done. they moved on now.

  • J Gandolfini realy is a great man and i hope too see him more in emotionel parts like his rol in The Mexican.I loved the Sopranos tough. All these guys and girls who are wounded are fantastic and brave people,i love all of them!

  • one of the greatest documentaries that i've seen..

it's beautiful..the passion..the courage that this people have..

  • He is AWESOME. So great he wanted to do this. So many actors are biased when it comes to support for the this country during a time of war.

  • ROWHR, I live in New Jersey. His accent on this video is a genuine New Jersey accent. The accent he uses on the show is heavier more like that of a New York accent or someone specifically from Jersey City or Newark

  • i thank the veterans

  • Gandolfini really is the man.

    Love him.

  • Hey retards! James Gandolfini is an ACTOR! He's not a mobster, its not real, its just a really good show, with great writing, and great actors. The guy couldn't be farther from the character. Idiots. If you want to see someone who is close to his character, look at Tony Sirico.

  • the mentally hurt need to be inculded in this. my friend went crazy. he is doing life in prison for killing someone all because he got confused.

we have to address mental illness.

  • Good for Gandolifini keeping politians out, its about the people.

  • soldiers die for the man beside them, their friends.

my respect and blessings go's out to all the families of the soldiers, from the USA and Europe that gave their lives for our freedom.

  • you forgot CANADA

  • Canada is a part of the States, you didn't know that? LOL

  • fuck canada...

  • soldiers die for their man arround them

my blessings are out to all the families of fallen soldiers fighting for our freedom.

  • Im a ducth former soldier

  • God bless our troops...all of them

  • I'm proud to say, I am a United States Veteran. Soldiers don't die for their country; they die for their friends.

  • tonys(james gandolfini) seems so weird lol his voice is completely different

  • He speaks with less dialect !

    It doesnt sound that strange!

  • What you expected Tony?

  • fuk up ya yanky bastard

  • read Hemingway, grow up and accept what you've taken on. Life is hard, I appreciate that their sacrafice has been but don't publicize it. How do you think that helps the families of soldiers who are awaiting the return of their loved ones? Just take a minute and think before you cruely send another person into depression. This is not your own personal forum.

  • i've only seen James in The Sopranos, & i am sad to hear his real voice now ='[

  • jesus christ these soldiers make 70G a year.. risks come with the job

  • have to agree with u there

  • LOL Americans?? Im Canadian and that is uncalled for, these guys are putting their lives on the line show some respect.

  • he's gonna have a lot to talk about with melfi after this

  • eat a dick fagot.

  • one of the greatest actors and human being of our time

  • One word. Respect.

  • toucansam- you're a dick. do you think Spiderman is real too.

He's an actor. And a bloody good one. You know Tony Soprano that's all!!

  • but he does sound fuckin wierd

  • Gandolfini never stated he's pro-war but he respects the bravery of the soldiers,to me there's no conflict in that- and in my opinion jim and edie were fine together in the final season

  • He talks nothing like Tony Soprano. I can't imagine George Clooney breaking down talking about injured troops.
