  • this movie looks so beautiful, i am so looking forward to see it

  • There are scenes and dialog in the preview that are not in the film....WTF!?

  • @anorak52 yeah maybe in the directors cut? i rented it, might buy it on blu ray. loved it,

  • what point was this movie trying to get across? made no sense what so ever , at one point a suggestion that life is evolving yet does not assume the source nor how truly. at another the lady is delusional about gods home is at the clouds or sun which clearly shows the mute understand what does god really mean and why is it supporting you and I right NOW? This movies a total waste of existence

  • "Some day we'll fall down and weep. And we'll understand it all. All things."

  • fuck this movie

  • THE BEST FUCKING NAT-GEO DOCUMENTAL

  • @macoronox lol that's kinda creepy

  • If anyone interested, the first song is Vltava from Bedřich Smetana.

  • while other films will get boring... the 20th time you heard the same joke or the 100th time you know this person is going to die in this action scene... The Tree of Life will get more interesting over time and will never get old. THIS IS A GROUND BREAKING FILM.

  • it looks cheesy boring stupid

  • I think this is a personal film and you can "see" it on any level you want.

I think people who have more life experience will be able to relate to it more. I'm not being patronising here but you have to be able to look back to your youth and your own childhood to find things that resonate with you.

Fundamentally it's a film about spirit and how you view the world around you. Whether you're actually aware of your surroundings and the people in your life.

Relax and let it take you wherever.

  • @acechadwick I just saw it and I agree you with u mostly. But you can't relax, it's too confusing and unclear. I think it is tht way because life and people's lives are often confusing and have no plot, they are instead made up of many little plots.

  • @friendsroxs101 That's actually a very good take. When you think back on any event it is just random seconds of images and fleeting emotions. You don't remember in a linear way. What I meant by relax is don't fight it. I think a lot of people begin fighting it the moment it starts. You have to relax and see if it takes "you" anywhere. My sister cried for the whole 2 hrs, I didn't but it still resonated with me.

Still it's a film unlike any another.

  • Where's Simba?

  • This is one of the most riveting trailers I have ever seen. Gave me the chills. Cannot wait to see what looks like this year's best film...

  • "Unless you love, you'e life will flash by"... so compelling

  • When you watch the movie, you will understand and its worth it. Bring tissues, it will remind you of your childhood.

  • God i saw this in Washington, it was so good <3

  • wierd..pitt likes acting in movies that include the bible

  • I thought this was a fan made trailer for the Yogscast's "The tree of life" series...

  • this trailer alone makers me feel good at times when im feeling down

  • The way this movie looks to me tells me about a story of a young boy who had to experiance the loss of innocence at a young age and it follows him throughout his adulthood, seeking for redemption and faith

    .

  • I dont even know what is the movie about but it makes kind of sad and think about life.

  • OSCAR!!!!!!!!!

  • Yep, it's a Terrence Mallick film, full of slow, visual poems, elegiac feelings, wind machines, low light-levels (Mallick loves long shots at dawn or dusk.) This is going to be amazing.

  • must be amazing...

  • I cry every time I watch this trailer and I don't know why. And I can't stop watching it.

  • 0:47

dad: "i want you to hit me as hard as you can..."

    son: "why?"

dad: "cause i still got the tyler durden jitterbug you little punk as bitch".

son whacks him in the ear

dad: "motherf.... you hit me in the ear!"

  • May 29, 2011

  • Somebody tell me please: was this movie already released?....I am totally mesmerized by the trailer..........but never heard about this movie in the theaters....how can this be possible?

  • You could mzke a great spoof of this trailer. ESP that cheesy dramatic music.

  • Lubezki is the greatest cinematographer alive

  • @scandza roger deakins.

  • 0:58 -- notice that black dot a little left from centre? Possibly a black hole?

  • @TQmatt

i think its probably mercury ;)

  • wanna watch it! :o

  • When does it come out? SOme of the most visually compelling imagery and cine. ive ever seen dude

  • @rachelcorr69 The Tree of Life hits theaters on May 27th, 2011.

  • @dutchmovietrailer Thank YOU!

  • @dutchmovietrailer may 27: new york and california

after that it slowly releases until mid July when it widely releases.

  • Brad Pitt's role in this movie was originally to be played by Heath Ledger. I think he would have made this more of an experience, even though i like Brad Pitt. It seems like it would have had the same tone as 'Candy' had Ledger played him. just how i feel.

  • @jiujitsug33k why does someone famous in it have to do with the actual film? Would it not have been equally good if an unknown person had performed?

  • @ArnoldtheDestroyer It doesn't have to be someone famous but I think the actors overall persona has to be taken into account. This just doesn't fit brad pitt, but if it was a 'nonamer' that fit the role better, i think it would have been more enjoyable.

  • the little kid looks more like jim caviezal

  • 0:48 and this proves Brad Pitt invented fight club

  • 2001 : A TERRENCE MALICK ODYSSEY

  • I hate how most trailers nowadays give away the entire story, but this trailer looks like a piece of art. It lets the imagination wonder what this film is about and I have a feeling that this movie will be a life changing experience.

  • Must've seen the trailer about a hundred times before I noticed the mother hiding behind the curtain at 1:24. Happens so fast it took me awhile to catch it.

  • @ZeroGrowth Omg I didn't see it until you said it!

  • 41,693 of this video's views are from me.

  • This is not trailer. This is some kind of art. Pure art. LOVE it!

  • is anyone else deeply confused?

  • @justapersonlikeyou Malick's films are deeply philosophical so if you don't enjoy really thinking about what is being shown to you then his films can be confusing. First time I saw Thin Red Line I was bored out of my mind. Went back and watched it a couple of years later with more patience and It's now my favorite film. Amazing in every way. Malick is a true one of a kind filmmaker

  • So basically there is a "solar flare-style cataclysm" and the audience is going to relive this guy's childhood....

    Tough act to follow.

  • I can't wait for this - Days of Heaven is one of my top ten favourite films OF ALL TIME and this looks like it cover similar ground. Plus it fucking looks amazing.

  • Terrence Malick is an amazing filmmaker

  • Music playing in this trailer:

    1. Bedřich Smetana - Má Vlast Moldau (Vltava) - but we already knew that, didn´t we?

    2. PATRICK CASSIDY'S "FUNERAL MARCH" (wrongly attributed to Desplat)

Thumbs up so everyone can see this! :))

  • This film looks beautiful in every way, I look forward to seeing this film this year. You should too.

  • This is the only footage the general public has seen of this film, myself included, and I'm already betting it's going to be the best film of 2011.

  • song: Bedřich Smetana - Má Vlast Moldau (Vltava): City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (EMH Classical)

  • terrence malick's movies are a little slow, but so beautifully written and filmed that i don't care. the first time i saw "the new world" i was overwhelmed with how different of a movie it was from anything i had ever seen before. every time i watch it i appreciate it more. they're certainly not for your average impatient movie-goer. in a world of michael bay and miley cyrus i'm glad we have terrence malick to keep us sane.

  • @celiarebecca And David Lynch.

  • While the majority of the music steams from "Ma Vlast Modau", they use their own version. Anyone know what this version is? The parts 0:07 to 0:20 and during the boys comments, the addition to the original are amazing. If anyone can find the copy they using in this movie that would be great, I am sure the OST will contain it but it will be probably a while before we see it.

  • this is made in my town lol i dont get it though

  • unless you love, your life will flash by..I thought its the other way :-)

  • this looks beautiful

  • Malick is Aware.

  • Wow, this looks like a good movie.

  • This looks like nothing more than Ramona and Beezus made into a drama. Boring American suburban family life in the 1950s and some grown man asking boring questions about life.

  • @GraceandLove

Agreed. Almost fell asleep during the trailer.

  • @GraceandLove Its okay simpletons like yourself will find it hard to understand these things.

  • Whats the music that starts at 1:20?

  • I almost don't want to see anything more of this film, including the film itsself. Because there is just no way - NO WAY - that anything could ever live up to that.

    But then again...

  • @varickpyr You can view the full orchestral version of Smetana's Má Vlast Moldau on our YouTube channel. On January 4th (only), we will make this track available as a free download. Details on our channel and on our Facebook page EMHClassicalMusic.

  • 00:46 Bahahahahaha, Brad Pitt pulling off his Fight Club moment with a kid!

  • @R2R3L4 that's awesome! hahahahaha!

  • I'm not sure the second half of the video uses "Die Moldau," doesn't sound the same. Is it another segment from Ma Vlast?

  • @enarchay

no, it's totally different song. Vltava is from 0:20 to aprox. 0:55. Also, it's 'Die Moldau' only in German, in English it's the original 'Vltava'.

  • "Father, Mother. Always you wrestle inside me...Always you will...", beautiful :)

  • @xonracer Y EP EXACTLY!

  • what the hell is this about?

  • @flyinghotdogsbaby310 *Whisper* EVERYTHING.... =O

  • @flyinghotdogsbaby310 its what its all about.

  • @flyinghotdogsbaby310 With such an abrasive question, you are most likely demanding an "instant gratification" answer. You most likely are incapable of comprehending the answer. Transformers is in the next theater over. Go see that.

  • @flyinghotdogsbaby310 If you don't know; does it matter anyway?

  • @flyinghotdogsbaby310 I get the impression from the trailer that its about your parents affect on you as a child and an adult. But I have only seen the trailer I haven't read any reviews or researched it so I could be completely wrong. But I hope it's more helpful then some of the belittling and snobby replies you've gotten.

  • thats some kind of rip but no hd! :(

  • nothing to do with the tree of life then_

  • I wept.

  • Goosebumps!

  • Looks epic.

  • This was filmed in my town!

  • @dwl09 that's awesome! what was that like?

  • @floorpuddle It was crazy cool. The cool thing was that my best friends dad works for the sheriffs dept. and was one of the personal body guards for Brad Pitt. He's got pictures and everything. The tree that they brought in to town to be planted was huge. A few of my friends actually played small parts in the movie.

  • @dwl09 and what town is that?

  • @ReturnOfJackDawson Smithville, Texas

  • @ReturnOfJackDawson Smithville, Texas

  • @ReturnOfJackDawson Smithville, Texas

  • I'm so glad Malick is directing films regularly again. I really enjoy his work.

  • @Calebyte

    Totally agreed.

  • O_O

  • What you guys need to know is that this movie is letting us know that religion is fake and we were created by the Anunnaki and that soon enough they will return and we'll learn the true meaning of life !

  • @aassaa99 you're an idiot

  • @aassaa99 umm....inglorious bastards!?

  • If Emmanuel Lubezki doesn't get an Oscar for Cinematography for this film, like he so deserved for this work on Children of Men...there is no justice in the world.

    This film looks BEAUTIFUL.

  • @LnkFn12 He'll likely get it .

    5th time's a charm.

  • Yes, I do so love Malick. My god do I love that man.

  • looks amazing!

  • i need not to watch this to know its good

  • unless you love your life will flash by,so true

  • Terrence Malick has a nice amount of time to write his Oscar speech.

  • @pandoraglory And video tape it, with all the lights off so you can't see his face, and mail it to the Academy to screen when he wins.

  • @pandoraglory I'm sure he won't be attending.

  • Goosebumps. Every time.

  • Reminds me of The Fountain on another level.

  • If nothing else, I'm going to be gobsmacked by how beautiful every frame is lit and composed. Poetry in motion.

  • This kinda reminds me of The Fountain.

  • @beanerman146

Me too dude, both the Fountain and 2001. Have a feeling this will be our generation's 2001. Kubrick intended 2001's meaning to directly affect our subconscious, maybe this will do the same?

Btw...The Fountain is an amazing film, one of my favorites. Unjustly criticized.

  • Heath Ledger was supposed to play Brad Pitt's role. He would've nailed it.

    RIP

  • @RequiemAmad I know. :(

  • @RequiemAmad

No. He'd never encountered a caliber like this before; he was too young (for the movie, not Terrence). I imagine he was either dropped before he passed, or would have been dropped if he was still here. Brad Pitt is essentially perfect.

  • The music is from Biedrich Smetana, called "My vlast" (my country)

  • @RVNLOFT We have the full orchestral version available on our channel - performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. On January 4th (only), we will offer Ma Vlast Moldau as a free download. Enjoy!

  • Can't wait!!! From what I've read Malick cuts the narrative with visuals of the creation of the earth and the age of the dinosaurs to express one man's search for the meaning of life...

  • the music is heart twisting,, i cannot wait to get that soundtrack

  • @makwilli The music is not apart of the film's score. The music used in all trailer are very RARELY from the film itself. In this case, it's not from the movie.

  • @KayWildcat

don't be so sure about that Wildcat - while the first half is The Moldau by Smetana, the music that hits at 1:07 could very well be Desplat's score for the film. There have been occasions where a piece of the score has been used in trailers; the most recent of such examples is the full trailer for Tron: Legacy. Also the full theatrical trailer for Batman Begins contained music from the film too.

  • @sixamsedna I never said that music from a film is NEVER used for a trailer, I said it's USUALLY not used. Yes, Tron: Legacy did use it, but that's because it's a very electronic score which is appealing but not brilliant. I sincerely doubt this is Desplat's work, as his efforts are usually stamped with his trademark. I wished he did push a little farther away from his comfort level.

  • i loved the thin red line

    and this looks great.

  • I am at lost for words. . . Phenomenal!

  • Looks fucking incredible.

  • unless you love, you life will pass by

  • that's it. Best Film of 2011

  • @belucciman how can anyone compete with that. malick rules. and the one person who doesn't like must be into those friedberg/seltzer parodies.

  • @belucciman ,

Totally agree even though we don`t know what 2011 will bring, malick & penn again = wow!

  • @belucciman Easily.
