  • Hmm a HTPC case would be awesome for a home media server.

  • too much thermal paste !

  • i7 in a HTPC, what the hell are you doing????

  • that really is some 'thight'cable management

  • is that scythe cooler quiet enough?

  • You can put alot of thermal compound but after it you have to put it more thin. You started to do it but you just spread out. Of course you waste your thermal compound when you do it like that XD.

  • wayyyyyy to much thermal compound...all u need is a pea size of a grain of rice rise

  • Dude, u have suchs nice components for this build. But u make suchs a mess of them. Ur telling "NoneImparticular" that the cpu cooler is a little bit cooler then the standard Intel cooler. Uuhm, with that much of a wire mess inside, the temps are pretty much equal. Get those wires tugged away for god sake.

  • porn i7 build

  • OMG way toooo much thermal paste dude !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • which mother board is this ´????

  • Overkill. You should've gone with a Athlon II X4 and 4gb of ram.

  • firstly, why an i7 for a htpc? bit of over kill there... (future proofing is not reason, my e6550 handles 1080p fine).

also being a htpc, why no tv-tuner?

  • wow...tiny fucking case.

  • No ANTI-STATIC GLOVES !!!!

  • That heatsink gonna kill your CPU, bro...

  • @NoneImparticular

The CPU is probably the most reliable component in your system, the CPU is able to 100% stable for an extended period without throttling with this heatsink. It is definitely not for over clocking though, and various benchmarks on the internet indicate it performs slightly better than Intel stock cooling despite being physically smaller.

  • thats an odd psu placement

  • @NoneImparticular yeah if your'e overclocking to 4 ghz it will kill your cpu. but why for a htpc this is more than enough

  • oh my God! He Grow A SECOND HAD @ 0:36

  • should of got modular

  • @Wordmovie i built my core i7 desktop without a wrist band and with a magnetic \screw driver which wasn't a good idea but nothing got messed up and my computer still works perfectly.. don't believe all that hype, the wristband is usually used when the builder is standing on a rug or anything static

  • aint that WAYYYY to many cooling paste? :/

  • I've been waiting for someone to make that comment, but It's far too humid here for that to make a difference. A wrist strap and anti-static mat prevent static build up which is a valid concern in dry environments. I continuously ground myself to the computer chassis which is more than adequate in the humid environment I was working.

People don't tend to like hot, humid environments, so they air-condition them, and then need to deal with the then dry environment.

  • What cpu cooler and case is that?

  • this is one of the best video on youtube...good job!!!

  • Gawd, I cant wait till my Tax's come in, Look on my channel to see my vid on what I am Getting I got 4,000 to spend and I am getting that + a tv and ect..

  • I see that you added a lot of compound thermal ..All you needed was just a grain of rice amount. That compound is going to over flow onto the CPU and can damage the CPU. Be care full my friend. Other than that you are doing a pretty go job putting the system together but looks like you were having some little trouble with that Sata cable...Tight

  • come on, don't scare him. thermal paste does no damage unless it is conductive, most pastes are not conductive.

  • Its not only about damage, too much thermal paste can be wrong for conducting heat, and it can actually cause overheating.

  • Yeah I was just about to mention the thermal paste part. But you said everything I wanted to say so...I'm just back you up! lol You are not suppose to apply a lot of thermal paste, a small grain is enough to cover the entire surface smoothly.

  • I have since sent the motherboard away for repair under warranty and have reapplied the thermal paste with arctic silver following the manufacturer's directions. Was a bit of mess cleaning up my first application, but all is good now.

  • whats your gpu it looks realy cheap?

  • HD 4550, I have since upgraded to a larger chassis so I can put a HD 5770 in it. I am going to use the HTPC chassis for a lower powered CPU. The HTPC chassis was fine during winter, but when it came to summer, it just wasn't keeping cool enough as I do not have air-conditioning.

  • @smithydll You don't want a 5770, get 5870... better Price/Performance ratio.

  • @NoneImparticular I already bought the 5770 several months ago. I didn't want to spend too much, and no-where had 5xxx in stock.

  • @NoneImparticular 5870's got the worst price.performance ratio out there, 5850 got better p&p, because it can be overclocked over 5870 standards for about 100 quid cheaper. seriously dont you know anything? dont give out false info man...

  • @smithydll lol air conditioning ont make a difference, get better thermal compound, and if you put a TINY amout it should lower temps by 10-20*C... that thermal compound if slowly killing your CPU....

  • That is a lot of TIM.

  • can i have the intel fan plz? =D

  • it would cost as much to ship it to you as it would be to buy a celeron 4xx and to just use the fan off that

  • how much cost

  • More than it would to buy new now. Given you use a different currency to us here; what I paid is unlikely to be much help for you.

  • im sry i hate u rich computer guys man i could barely afford the gaming computer i have right now and its low end but great. check my vids.

  • Start saving, I started out with an AMD Athlon X2, now I'm running a monster i7! Don't hate us bcuse we have money, get some instead!

  • dam.... case 2 small for an i7 lol...they are hotter than the sun

  • hey man heard there was problems with that bored getting over 4ghz how did you find it man

  • is an intel i5 as good as intel i7????

  • Simple answer, no.

Specific benchmarks vary based on exact models compared.

Real world performance varies based on the task being presented to the processor.

If you're going to SLI/Crossfire, then gone th ei7 920, it's a no-brainer. If you want to check e-mails, get an atom netbook. For a media centre get atom/ion.

  • i didnt talk bout netbook :D. i was just wondering is the intel i5 2nd best then intel i7????

  • And again benchmarks vary depending upon the task given to the processor but in general no, the core i7 still trumps everything else.

    i7 > i5 > i3

  • I'll make it easier,

Itanium - The best processor family Intel make, not x86, will not run consumer editions of windows

Xeon - The absolute best x86 processor family intel make, workstations and servers, architectures vary, do your research

Core i7 Extreme Edition - absolute best *Consumer* processor family

Core i7 - High performance *Consumer* processor family

Core i5 - Mainstream, value and performance orientated consumer processor

Core i3 - Value orientated end

    Core 2 - Previous generation

  • Use the intel star rating system and just get a four star processor.

  • honestly u can get an i5 and OC it and it will perform almost or better than an i7 when the i7 is stock of coarse

  • i5 performs almost as good as a i7

u wont see the difference if u cant afford an i7 go with a i5 u will not regret

  • stupid cabel organize!

  • nice work, cool sped-up video.

  • That's a lot of thermal compound you put on the CPU, what brand?

  • It came with the heatsink as a small sachet which is Scythe brand.

  • Nice build, like the LiLi case but yeah i7 seems like overkill for an htpc but whatever floats your boat

Also I have the same board ;)

  • nice build were did u get the DFi from ? and Great build, Why did u go i7 for a HTPC tho? espically with the bottleneck inur gfx card ?

  • PCCASEGEAR stock DFi. It's not a gaming machine, so the gfx isn't a bottleneck, for HD video it's all about having the hardware accelerated h.264 decoding, and a fast processor with hyper threading such as the core i7. I'm thinking of putting it in a tower case now. For gaming you're better off with a Core 2 Quad for the $ to performance.

  • What talent you got there I love this video!
