Ok I got a problem my ps3 just died, I have the first ps3 it last me like 5 years....not like that pussy 360 I had 5 of them in the last 5 years....ne way I have a lot of songs on my ole ps3 how do I take all of my songs & data off the ole ps3 & put on my new one! Thanks

@MrHamakara you gotta press triangle and hit display all then you can search the folders (if you have any) and be sure to select the right type (video for video) (Music for Songs)

@alextetzner16 make sure your USB drive is formated in FAT32. The NTFS file system will not work with the PS3.

@betterrun7 Its basically the same thing,you can get a flash drive and save what u want on the flash drive from the ps3,such as a picture or something,you would go to what you want,then press the triangle button on what you want.You should see a list of options,something should say "Copy",select copy,you would then copy it to your Flash drive,then upload it to your computer.Hope this helps.

For the USB method, I'm pretty sure the drive has to be in the FAT32 format, as my NTFS drive isn't recognized by the PS3.

copying medis via usb fails to work, i have formated my usb pen in fat 32 as you need to i converted a kmv file to a mp4 using mkv2vob, I then copyed this to the usb key and insetrd to the ps3. It sees the drive but says no data any ideas ?

Best way to move files or watch media is use an External HDD.

Remember if your using a HDD over 500gig you have to format it to FAT 32 for the PS3 to accept it.

I used a pgr. EASEUS Partition,.... download was free it was quick and easy.

I just created a 32GB partition on one of my backup drives so I didn't have a entire drive limited by the FAT32 4GB file size limit.

@DaveSimonH Not so. I had a HP 250 gig External HDD that was NTFS and it worked fine on the PS3.

Now I don't know if it had anything to do with the model which at the time was the 80 Gig Fatboy.

I now have the slim and don't know if the 250 gig works as I don't have that HDD anymore.

I have the Seagate 2TB and it does suck that files are limited to 4 gig in size. Couldn't Sony fix this with a firmware update?

@Illuminati10101 Do you really require the whole 2TB to be FAT32, you could partition the drive 50/50 then you'd have the best of both worlds. Only problem I can see is if the drive is full and you've nowhere else to back up your data before partitioning

yes plug it in, go to it on the music section,press triangle, go to Display All, then click on ipod control got to the music folder and it will show up as F0,F01, just copy all the music you want on there or just copy multiple items in order to do all folders at once. i just seen your comment so idk if you have figured this out already

to answer ur q the ps3 is a massive memory card so i know it can go over 250gb but the highest i seen a internal hard been is 750 gb maybe higher i will get more info and blog u and for external all u need is an ex hard drive that has an high speed ex hard drive that is equal or more to the memory u want to put on the internal hard drive but in a quick summary if u want to upgrade a ps3 hard drive its easy and should cost under 200 bucks depending on ur memory internal and external hard drive

lol you can do all this wired/wirelessy thru your operating system! u dont need no software/usb stick but some times is better with it to do this! enable media sharing for windows media player make sure you detect and allow your ps3 to receive files and wallah! ur done!

Why not just set up media sharing using windows media player 11.. I use a similar set up for the 360 and i am aware that it does work in the same way as ps3, i informed a friend and he was able to get it running and has not experienced any problmes.
