thats because it blew off.. what you do is you take the bottle you add news paper inside of it.. small amount of water just to wet the paper then tape it onto the end.. then it will be alot less noise.. but use a 2 liter bottle..

Stickydude1 is right. If a round is fired faster than the speed of sound it will "crack" creating a sonic boom. Any bullet fired subsonic will not break the sound barrier, making it easier to suppress. Silencers do not exist... only suppressors.

Subsonic rounds don't really have everything to do with suppressors. You can't suppress a supersonic bullet, but obviously you can still suppress the muzzle report. Hearing protection, less muzzle flash, dust kick up etc... ??? So maybe "the kid from the UK" isn't as stupid as you think.

Depends what your using it for, don't you think? Sure, the best way to quieten a gun is to use subsonic ammo. However if you want to do more than tickle anything further away than 300 metres, subsonic doesn't really cut the mustard. That's UK slang for not being good enough ;-)
That is very true! haha I mean, suppressing a .308 (or any sniper rifle) is pointless because you'll be so far away any way. By the time the sound gets to the target, it'd be hit already. I've found that anything that is suppressed is usually more accurate (low recoil & less wind resistance due to slower velocity), but it lacks in range. =/ Oh well... sometimes you just gotta compromise haha.

Actually, you can't. You can suppress the noise from the supersonic bullet being fired. But you can't take away the noise from the supersonic crack with a silencer. Unless there is no air (vacuum), it is impossible. Maybe the Canadian should have done a little research on gas laws before letting off hot air.

You can put a silencer on a gun that fires supersonic rounds, but there is no silencer that will slow a round from 2500+fps to around 1100fps in the 6 inches of its length. It is not possible. Silencers cool and expand hot gas, attenuating sound in the process. They don't strip thousands of feet per second off the muzzle velocity. The silencers used on standard round suppress muzzle report, not sonic crack. DUMBASS.
silencers can use a variety of mechanisms to work, the U.S. navy has a disposable silencer for the 9mm that wears out after 6 shots with standard ammunition and 30 with subsonic ammo, they're real I've held one, that's how I know you can suppress supersonic rounds, and silencers that slow the velocity of the bullet work by either releasing some of the gas before the bullet leaves the barrel or a series of brushes that eventually wear out.

Basically to have a sucessful silencer you need a tube for the bullet to travel through, with holes drilled into it so the gases can flow up into a larger tube,IE:pop-bottle or metal pipe with end caps. Some homemade silincers have material like steel wool or stuffing of some sort to slow down the gas flow. The point is to give the gas a larger area to disapte instead of being crammed out of the small muzzle

why not do both what? if you reduce muzzle velocity it should be done with your charge....not by messing with your barrel or its now added length of silencer. Most muzzle velocity has everything to do with power behind the bullet and length of the barrel. This is why a 308 rifle will have different velocities with every thing the same beides barrel lengths. Such as 18 22 24 and 26 firing the same round having different velocities.

Subsonic rounds don't really have everything to do with suppressors. You can't suppress a supersonic bullet, but obviously you can still suppress the muzzle report. Hearing protection, less muzzle flash, dust kick up etc... ??? So maybe "the kid from the UK" isn't as stupid as you think.

Depends what your using it for, don't you think? Sure, the best way to quieten a gun is to use subsonic ammo. However if you want to do more than tickle anything further away than 300 metres, subsonic doesn't really cut the mustard. That's UK slang for not being good enough ;-)

That is very true! haha I mean, suppressing a .308 (or any sniper rifle) is pointless because you'll be so far away any way. By the time the sound gets to the target, it'd be hit already. I've found that anything that is suppressed is usually more accurate (low recoil & less wind resistance due to slower velocity), but it lacks in range. =/ Oh well... sometimes you just gotta compromise haha.

Actually, you can't. You can suppress the noise from the supersonic bullet being fired. But you can't take away the noise from the supersonic crack with a silencer. Unless there is no air (vacuum), it is impossible. Maybe the Canadian should have done a little research on gas laws before letting off hot air.

Look, you have no idea what you are talking about. You can put a silencer on a gun that fires supersonic rounds, but there is no silencer that will slow a round from 2500+fps to around 1100fps in the 6 inches of its length. It is not possible. Silencers cool and expand hot gas, attenuating sound in the process. They don't strip thousands of feet per second off the muzzle velocity. The silencers used on standard round suppress muzzle report, not sonic crack. DUMBASS.

silencers can use a variety of mechanisms to work, the U.S. navy has a disposable silencer for the 9mm that wears out after 6 shots with standard ammunition and 30 with subsonic ammo, they're real I've held one, that's how I know you can suppress supersonic rounds, and silencers that slow the velocity of the bullet work by either releasing some of the gas before the bullet leaves the barrel or a series of brushes that eventually wear out.

Have you ever used one, or seen it in action? They have no use outside the military or for illegal endeavours. Any silencer that uses baffles (ie the ones that you are able to use) have minimal if any effect on bullet velocity. If the bullet leaves the muzzle supersonically, its gonna make a crack. The silencer won't do anything to stop that.

No dude, you cant. Because a "supersnic" bullet is a bullet that breaks the sound barrier. So that means when it leaves the muzzle, its going to make a loud crack and a silencer cant stop the noise from coming out. Maybe a little bit, but I doubt it can stop 10% of the pop from coming out.

SUPRESSOR!!!! To silence a gun to reduce projectile velocity by bleeding barrel (if using standard ammunition) and keeping action locked cutting mechanical noise. Problem is projectile loses kinetic energy so you want something big and heavy like 0.45ACP. Scionics has a gas valve that vents.

sorry my mistake this is how it goes:A normal rifle gunshot is very loud, its about 140 to 170 decibels while the threshold for pain is 130 db. This can be lowered to around 115 db through the use of a suppressor and subsonic ammunition.

There's no point in suppressing a .308 anyway... it's a sniper rifle. By the time the sound gets to the victim he's already been hit as the bullet will travel faster than the speed of sound (supersonic).

Actually, it's every 3dB that doubles the power. 1 db is the smallest level that a typical person can perceive a volume difference. Filters and the like are specified with a cut-off frequency at their half power points (-3dB). The 3dB level increase or decrease is used since the typical person perceives that amount of increase or decrease to be the same in each increment. In any case, going from 120 to 129 dB would be doubling the sound level three times, so it would be 8x as powerful (or loud).

mabey he's using slugs, how do you know that he isn't?, but the point is, unless there is a tube in the bottle for the the slug to travle through. with holes drilled into that tube, to disspiate the gas, some steel wool or somthing to help asorbe the gasses as well as slow down the gas flow and some sort of cap on the end of the bottle with a hole in the middle of it for the tube to fit through. Otherwise all he did was put a halfass magaphone on the muzzel of his shotgun.

why would you think that Just a bottle with the end cut off of it, with nothing to asorbe the gas comming out of the muzzle, would work as a sliencer? (Think Magaphone the kind that dont use amps.). In order to slince the sound of a round going off is to have a tube with holes, (gas vents), drilled in it, incased in another bigger tube with some type of stuffing/or steel wool, (anything to asorbe the gas) inside it. so the gas gets asorbed instead of blasting out the muzzel.

A flash suppressor is for the flash, (although a slincer dose hide the flash also, and how do you think it dicipates the sound? By asorbing the gasses and releasing it out of the slincer slowly. and I'm the dumbass. Do some reasearch before you call people dumbasses, because all it does is prove that you are the dumbass.

NP man ;) sometimes its hard to describe how stuff works without showing the person. Basically to have a sucessful silencer you need a tube for the bullet to travel through, with holes drilled into it so the gases can flow up into a larger tube,IE:pop-bottle or metal pipe with end caps. Some homemade silincers have material like steel wool or stuffing of some sort to slow down the gas flow. The point is to give the gas a larger area to disapte instead of being crammed out of the small muzzle

why not do both what? if you reduce muzzle velocity it should be done with your charge....not by messing with your barrel or its now added length of silencer. Most muzzle velocity has everything to do with power behind the bullet and length of the barrel. This is why a 308 rifle will have different velocities with every thing the same beides barrel lengths. Such as 18 22 24 and 26 firing the same round having different velocities.
