  • Looking at great guitarists like you makes me feel sorry I'm handicap. I really wish I could play an instrument - any instrument. )-:

  • interesting.

  • YOU MAKE IT LOOK FREAKIN EASY.YOUR DA BESSSTTTT

  • EXCELLENT playing, and excellent choice of music!

  • Makes me want to learn to guitar. Great cover!

  • Marvelous! Do you have the tab for this song? I'd really like to play it.

  • Excellent!

Can you do 'Way Of Life'?

  • You make it look realy easy.

  • Nice work! Love the middle finger in the bridge section (LMAO). My friend and I uploaded some covers of Edge of Twilight, 2 Weeks in Spain, and Playing the Game. Great music and always challenging, keeps you on your toes type music. Cheers!

  • This was the best cover ever. No exceptions.

  • hilarious attitude

  • I have never seen someone play Gentle Giant so perfectly...I understand that you had an album going, and were focusing on having your guitar techniques shown, so ignore the people that say, you can't hear the rest of the band, or you need to blend or tune....gimme a break! YOU ACED THIS SONG! They are just jealous that they can't throw down this tune as awesome as you can! I am VERY IMPRESSED! I love GG, and it's nice to know, someone else out there has a love for them as much as I do! BRAVO!

  • Little more tube distortion and a quick hit on the tuner and you have this nailed. Fine job.

  • great dude just great!

  • It's quite a challenge to learn a GG song, and you do it pretty well! They were my biggest influence writing songs in the '70's, when I was a teenager. Some people even said I sounded like them. I didn't realize it at the time, but I sounded like crap compared to them.

  • i ve got the had ... have you got the dock??? haddock! had-dock

  • Come and show your talent on globaltalentshow com.

  • im glad with exist peoples like progressive!!!! :D

  • Great playing but I can't hear the rest of the band; it kills the context of the part you're playing. Figure out a way to blend in while making your part heard. Otherwise, good job!

  • Nicely played.

Can you do 'In A Glass House'?

  • muy bueno, disfrute mucho al escuchar la guitarra aparte de la musica, es qe gg es lo mejor que hay

  • I wanted to add a comment in additon to my other one.

I love longish hair on males.

i wish men didn't have their hair short these days.

  • The song is brilliant and the whole album is very nice...

But I have to say I dislike most of the guitar sounds on this album. The whole thing sounds kind of tinny.

  • bravo!...

  • Respect

  • Great, keep it up! Good to see some younger guys keeping the 'Giant striding across the landscape!

  • Very good!

    I enjoyed this.

    thankyou.

  • ok beautiful

  • Great job kiddo!!!! The fact you sat around and taught yerself this song by ear gives me hope. The fact that you can be seen clearly enjoying what is most powerful and compelling in the material as you perform it is better than sliced cheese. And I love cheese!! Best regards and wishes. Giant forever!!!

  • Excellent work !!

  • Very cool! One of the best plays with GG material. Really hard ones :)

  • Wow, did you figure it out by ear? Even if you didn't still hell of a job!

  • A non-GG fan would probably think you are a fool (or worse) but as a GG fan I think it was fantastic. I learn a lot when you and other guys isolate the parts played by my favorite band in history. They were the most talented I ever saw, and I saw many.

  • Really into GG atm, my dad got me into them. Great cover...just to think how GG felt when playing this music must be out of this world

  • Very nice well done. I love GG and I love those who love GG.

  • WOOOOW. Got virtually EVERYTHING they did. Even the illegal recordings. Saw them live in concert. Why the hell would someone try and play that? I am in admiration! (PS being a professional musicain myself..)

  • It is pretty freaking awesome. Love the harmonics too. The kid is good. Probably their best album. I think I ordered it as an import.

  • Good job! Great to see young people into GG! Keep it up.

  • yeah that´s a miracle.

like myself, only 18 years old and into GG.

    how can that be?

  • i agree. it gives me hope when i see the young players who not only know who gg is, but can riff on it....

    gary green would be proud...

  • nice job

  • Adoro Gentle Giant !! Demais !!!

  • great job

  • Muito bom!

  • Wow man you're good! get some old vintage gear and you'll be set.I play bass and would jam with you.

  • Really Nice Job, man!

  • I am Amazed that you love GG, I am a lot older so I remember them when I was your age, they still remain one of my favorites.I am so gald you love Prog, keep going, then your own stuff with their influence.

  • fucking amazing song man. big ups

  • Wow! You have excellent taste! You really did a great job! How old are you? I saw Gentle Giant live when I was in High School and actually got to meet them. They are as sincere as their music! Love it!

  • Great work.

  • You have all the sounds down for this piece.

    great playing my friend.

    Dave.

I have played many of their pieces.

  • nice job, i'm very suprised to see a young lad play some of the best progressive music form the 70's.. keep it up, i don;t care how you pick, i never took guitar lessons i play as i play, believe in yourself is what's important!!!!!!1

  • Yes! Don't let the new generation forget about the greatness that is Gentle Giant! Great Job! Do you write and record your own music as well?

  • Ok, after watching this video, I have come to the conclusion that you are god.

  • Awesome GG cover! You capture their essence, in your music and in your narrative.

As for the comments about your technique, does anyone really think he CAN'T "back-pick" or "alternate pick"?? I think he plays as he does to maximize the attack and tone.

Don't listen to critics of your style, playing, or technique; they're not the ones on stage at the moment (if they ever were), are they? Play on.

  • Really nice job! You remind me a little of a guitarist I used to have the good fortune of playing with (Dave Jackson)

    Keep up the good work!

  • Dave Jackson, wasn't he the saxophonist from Van Der Graaf Generator? Or is that another Dave Jackson? :S

  • Hi,

No, althought that would of been very fortunate for me! ;-) Dave Jackson was the guitarist for THEATRE for many years, a local WA state prog band who's heyday (1979 through 1986) was firmly lodged in the staggnant 'null' of the sagging cleavage of the two great prog rock eras.

Check out the YouTube page Theatre1982 to hear Dave Jackson (and me and Hopspop ;-) perform some reasonable incredible stuff (i'm biased) that could use a healthy dose of wart remover . .

  • Great job! But I'll 3rd the suggestion that you learn to 'back-pick'. Nice to see a young guy into great music and not the commercial drivel that most are. Seems you have a nice Lp collection too! Digital is for computers and phones, analog is for music!

  • Very good, but please learn alternate pickin!!!!

  • aah! dejalo ser!!! mejor que escuche a Sun Ra, pero por ay va!

  • you are good!

  • bravissimo guy!!!!

  • Nice, bro.... I could see you doing well playing a 12-string 330. You have that style.

  • I like the song you played, but you should learn alternate picking.

  • Very cool, I was lucky to see their second to last concert they ever played back in 1980. It changed my life!

  • "And when he flipped the bird the audience went wild!"...................

But seriously, you are dead on with everything. Take care of those hands. They are made of Gold. For what my humble opinion is worth, you could have played with them, and I don't hand out compliments easily.I won't ask you how you figured this out. Musicians are stingy with their secrets I know. But wow what a job!

  • very good

  • very good

  • very good

  • I'm italian

    You are the best!!!

  • PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI!

    BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO!

    I love the Italian scene

  • I like your playin'!

Cheers, from a GG fan (love PFM and BdMS too)

  • Can't leave out PICCHIO DAL POZZO! ...Great choice and great job, by the way.

  • @Bigfishwhatabigfish Don't forget il balletto di bronzo

  • @Bigfishwhatabigfish Don't forget Le Orme! :D

  • @Bigfishwhatabigfish And Museo Rosenbach!

  • WOW. Made my morning and all that.. Enlightening and impressive to hear the guitar line of one of my favorite songs ever brought out and revealed so nicely (!)

So, are you in / do you have a band ??

    (if not, why not?)

What else do you listen to / are you learning ??

    regards

    KGH

  • Great job - Have loved GG since whenever etc.

    Play guitar etc.

But you had nads to learn it

  • Bravo! Great playing

  • Great playing! thanks for keeping this great band alive.

  • Wow! You totally rock! All you need is four other great players and create a band!

  • excellent job.

  • oops - sorry! I posted that last comment on my daughter's sign in by mistake - Shirley

  • I used to listen to Gentle Giant about 30 years ago when I was a teenager - you played that brilliantly. Shirley

  • gary green is not your typical guitar player with his complex phrasing and you nailed it!!!very impressive!!!

  • whoa whoa what's this about me being dirty? :p

  • Why don't you play this yourself, and why do I get the impresison that you'd call everyone with long hair a hippie? (and that's "hippie", not "hippy")

If you think playing guitar is a trend, do you think Gentle Giant is a trend as well? Think that twice.

Who cares if people can play better? It definitely takes time to learn that, and he isn't saying "OMG I ROX" or something, so a bit of respect is in order.

    In short, fuck off

  • Haha, what's wrong, did I strike a nerve there, fruitcake? Besides, 'hippy' is just as acceptable as 'hippie', that's like correcting someone for typing 'honour' in lieu of 'honor', don't be ridiculous, it's an alternative spelling. If I was an asshole, I'd point out that you spelt 'impression' wrong. And yes, I know this guy, he's overly political, even though his head is in his ass on every topic, and he has long hair. Thusly, I make the conclusion that the man must be a hippy.

  • I agree nagging about spelling errors online is a stupid waste of time, it shows you don't have any other point to make.

And what's wrong about bein' a hippie? Means you're against war, you love experimenting with music, and you get the best bang the bong 'cause you know what it can do spiritually.

And for the record, I shower every 2nd day so I resent the "dirty" remark! :p

  • Drugs are bad, mmkay? 'Spirituality' is the long form of the word 'bullshit' =p There's a lot of 'spiritual' things out there that aren't neccesarily good. For example, ritualistic human suicide or martyrdom. And well, sometimes war is absolutely neccesary, mind you, I'm against the pushing and shoving going on out in Iraq and Afghanistan, but still, it sometimes needs to be done. Now go shower again =p

  • @Bigfishwhatabigfish I'm a hippie and am for war, am an atheist/detest "spiritual" bullshit, and use a vaporizer (bongs are for amateurs). That being said, once again - great job figuring out this song. Not many are even aware of GG since they're 30 years dead. Gary Green still plays in a band called "Three Friends" and has a gig at BB Kings in NYC this June. Check it out!

  • The kid is awesome! And if you knew anything about playing guitar, like actually knowing how to play guitar, you wouldn't be posting dumb-ass comments like this one.

    As you were: wanking.

  • Fruitcakes don't have nerves. Rewrite that.

Honour and honor are differences between British and American English. Typing "impresison" is a typo. In case you still don't get it, it means that I accidentally typed the letters in the wrong order.

Anyway, I'm tired of ranting, so this leaves us with the moral of the story. Unless necessary, don't ever allow comments in YouTube. Idiots are lurking everywhere.

  • By the way, very fucking nice, 4th

  • Fucking poser piece of shit.

  • What a thing to hear coming for a selfish prat, huh?

  • from*

  • Fucking awesome! You know, I bought a guitar a few years ago, but I never got serious about it. Watching you makes me want to learn ago. BTW, In A Glass House is my favorite album by Gentle Giant. Well done.

  • Bravo!!! Nadie se le mide a tocar esto

Aunque los efectos horribles(sobre todo ese flanger).

Los discos de atrás eran de su papa, que hay de bueno por ahí?

  • Iam glad young guys are still into GG! Keep it up.

  • Only 3 minutes in, so far, on me bass.

    It sure is a toughy.

I plan to master it if it kills me.

It's the best challenge I've had in years...

Just may take a couple more weeks.

We need a bass version of this tune on youtube, anyway...

  • man, that was sweet!! nice hair! fuckin' awesome!

  • fucking fantastic man...

  • Sounds cool, man. Give me a 2 or 3 weeks to work on the tune. I've got the cam, the firewire card and the dv cable, so I should be good ta go.

  • quelques fausses notes et une tête de baveux

  • good

  • I just may feel inclined to play me own bass version of this song on Youtube, once I figure out how to put things on Youtube, that is.

You've given me some kind of incentive!

I thought "My two friends and I" were the only Gentle Giant fans around.

Looks like GG fans actually come from all over.

  • Gimme a shout if you ever post it here! All I use to post videos is, obviously a v-cam, plus a 1394 cable, which has its own special shaped plug on both my v-cam and my computer. But anyway good luck!

  • I just had to check out yer vid again.

Way so cool! Nice touch with the flange at that one part...

I just may feel inclined to make up me own bass version of this song for Youtube. You've given me some incentive.

I thought I was the only Gentle Giant fan around...

  • You are freakin' amazing. I've been a Gentle Giant fan since I was about 18 or 19. I used to teach myself the bass lines from many a GG tune over all the years. I'm 45 now and still play me bass. Would be so cool do a GG cover band. If yer ever in the neighbor hood, look me up. I know a guy who sings and can get a keyboardest I also happen to be a master lyricist. Good pick, by the way. Myself, I might have picked "Just the Same" or some thing off "Inteview."

  • When I was your age these guys were in my top five of listening music. I am very pleased to see young musicians taking up the old stuff as it really does have merit. How did you come to this band? Parents records or just by chance? Very good job of leaning the licks and congrats to you for being observant of this band. I had even forgotten about them till this morning a friend had emailed me a link.

  • Thanks for keeping this great music alive. Keep up the great work!

  • wherr did you get the tab for this.

  • I studied the song by ear.

  • very cool. it's great to see/hear people are still digging GG

  • Good job. GG is the band that all guitarists need to understand.

  • Very well done man!!, did you transcribed the song by ear? thats the best eartraining you can get, you need to work a little on your tecnique, you almost do only downstrokes, I have transcribed many from them, If you like we can exchange because there are no official transcriptions... Take care and keep it up!!

  • well done kid very nice try.

i am the bigest fan of gentle giant in greece.

    i love them

  • Well done!!

  • this band blows my mind!!!

    im a big fan!
