Games aren't made for free, and when a game is a small release like this one and not made on a billion dollar budget, breaking even is often played perilously close to the wire. Like I said, I'm not against piracy, it just depends on the circumstances. In this case, it's a dick move to announce your intentions to not pay for this game to the people whose livings more or less depend on people paying for it.

There is a demo of Serious Sam: The First Encounter that uses the same engine that you can download off Steam. If your computer runs that there's a good chance it will run SS3.

If you're using ATI Mobility, when you try the demo you may need to type ren_bInstanceRendering=0 in the console (access it with the key to the left of the 1 key), otherwise graphical glitching may make it unplayable.
