@connswee LOL, go in a store and buy or order it! You can also get it in Amazon, in Blue Ray edition. I don't know if there's also in DVD, but maybe you can find it.
there are a lot's of good movie's out there like harry potter, twilight, pirates of the carribean, star wars, the matrix but none of them are just as good as lord of the ring's this trilogy will be living in our mind's forever we wont forget this movie. Its like telling a story to your grandchild and your grandchild will tell it to his grandchild. Everybody will know about this movie everybody will gonna love this everybody gotta know this THEY MUST!!!!!!!

@blackmorestuff i diddnt say i like twilight i just named one. And by the way why do you care if people like twlight or not? its there choise. They dont have the same tasted for movie's like you.
@blackmorestuff I think there is a misundarstanding. I was talking about Twilight as a bad acting movie, not Lord of the Rings... I fucking love Lord of the Rings books and movies too! :D
such a shame that there have to be time limits for movies...I mean some you would never want them to be like 10 hours long, but others (for instance this one) just deserve to take a whole day to watch
They need to have an extended extended version, because I think fans would love to see EVERYTHING that was cut out. 10 hours of extra scenes? Give it to us!
so let me get this right, sauron was bound to the ring. hence going bye bye when the son of the king lopped his fingers off. if i 'm reading into this right, ring just falls off one day while.... i dont know gardening and boom he dies?!?!?!?!?!
@dexterme Ummm...actually I think it was Aragorn's grandfather who cut off the ring, and he died when orcs shot him..he fell in the river and lost the ring. Gollum and his friend were swimming one day and Gollum's friend found the ring, Gollum killed him and then left to live under the Misty Mountians, where in "The Hobbit" Bilbo finds it, and then Frodo becomes his heir and takes the ring.
me and my bro have completed the games on ps2 and i was wondering why they added extra [parts in the game. well now i have learmnt that it wasn't added, just that bit was taken from the film
tolkien based the lord of the rings not on any religion but of his own imagination, of pure fantasy created into a world completely of its own. its a world completely new, nothing was based off it. just himself and his mind. however unintentional implying of different religions. but still. its a completely different world.
Guess what faggot. Tolkien was a devout catholic. In the tolkien reader it states how there are christian esque values in ALL his books. So suck a fucking dick. God, I hate kids.
The only scene I think they shouldn't have cut out is "The Houses of Healing" because that is integral to Eowyn's character (how she is dying of grief and sorrow) and it also explains how Eowyn and Faramir get together.
ROTK was a very, very good movie. however, there were some scenes that shouldnt have been deleted. like thr Houses of Healing and when Aragorn faced the Palantir
Iv heard that too. I heard that it was supposed to symbolize Christianity, what with Tolkien being a christian author and all. I haven't been able to make the connections yet. I would love to hear the meaning of the allegory myself as well.
It could be interpreted as an allegory, but that's not how Tolkien wanted it. One of the parallels of the characters to Christ is how Aragorn, Gandalf, and Frodo make up aspects of him: king, priest, and servant, respectively.
Kinda odd how Gandalf, like Saruman and Radagast, was essentially an angel's emissary, and you just made that comparison. That isn't to say that Gandalf was an angel, but he was sent in the stead of the Vala.
What I love about the so-called allegory of LOTR is its many levels of interpretability. Who does Gandalf represent? An aspect of Christ, a guardian angel, Saint Michael, etc...
How about Frodo? He could be Christ or a normal human.
Sam could be Peter or John or Matthew or another average guy, or at a stretch the Virgin Mary.
Gandalf is literally a angel. Being a guardian of peace isnt religious in nature. Frodo is probably just an AFC, which we can all relate to, making the book more personal. Sam can be seen as a loyal friend, because we all need them in our darkest hour. He helps to support us when we feel pain and weakness, like any true friend would. It's odd how you attached religious concepts to the books, as I never saw anything remotely similar-but I did see a slight resemblance to overcoming drug addiction.
No he didn't. He never said such a thing. He said that his inspiration for writing came from ancient epics before him, which weren't usually christian in origin.
I read a book "The Philosophy of Tolkien" by Peter Kreeft (which I highly recommend, by the way) in which Tolkien stated that LOTR was a definitely Catholic work. Not necessarily in inspiration, but in the morals and reflections shown in his writing: those of faith, heroism, charity, generosity, etc. etc.
So someone ELSE said tolkien used catholic ideals? by that logic, all fantasy uses pagan the themes of celebration of seasons, love of nature, and rituals-notably uncatholic, I might add.
Tolkien himself. ;P I think that's a reliable source.
And the reason fantasy uses those ideals is because fantasy highly stems from ancient mythology which was, of course, pagan. And it's not "unCatholic" to love nature and celebrate the seasons. Our teachings don't cover that. And rituals? The Catholic Sacraments are ritualized, as is the Mass.
One of my comments said that LOTR can be interpreted many ways. This is how I interpret it, and it's similar to how Tolkien did.
@TerminalVelocity14 So you think Tolkien wanted his work interpreted as a Religious message? I'm almost certain he specifically stated that he didn't want his work given allegories as a message or ideal. BTW, it is uncatholic to believe in things that are not Catholic in belief. Anything that is seen as uncatholic is immediately drawn as irrelevant and unneeded. And you've said that in someone else's book tolkien said he was inspired by his catholic faith. That sounds like- MESSAGE TOO LONG.
Message continuation- It's a type of Christian pattern that occurs many times over. A Christian will see a good story and try to attach their own ideals to it, in an attempt to make the story 'Theirs.' It isn't personal, it's just in the nature of the religion itself. I'll throw in some points with which you can argue with me, since I'm getting bored. I loathe organized religion. I see it as corrupt. I personally see the stories as an image of death, suffering, and the power- MESSAGE TOO LONG.
2nd Message continuation- that comes with it. I also personally do not find any interest in Christian Ideals- the only one I can relate to is charity, which in and of itself is one of the most corrupt things you can be. I myself am neither religious or unreligious, as I see religion and/or the lack of it an unnecessary clarification. It's human nature, I know, but it's trivial in the grandose scale of things. An odd thing you can use against me in any argument- I'm psychopathic. I have no ethics
Dude your rambling on and on how you dislike religion, ok,,, so what, you have your opinions and its your right to, but TerminalVelocity14 is talking about TOLKIEN and his views on the way he made his book. Stay on track man.
I'm just saying what I've read in my research. The values and morals in Tolkien's work were Catholic-inspired: faith, courage, sacrifice, etc. It's not the characters and events that are meant to be interpreted Catholicly. But that's how I do it, and think based on J.R.R.'s comments he would prefer they be interpreted in a Christian manner, if at all.
@TerminalVelocity14 Fine. Say something that's not christian is christian. Your argument is invalid, due to you only using testimony, so I stopped listening when you started to repeat yourself. This argument has lost motivation on my part because I no longer find it of any interest, but I do find your views depressing, but as I've said, I don't actually like any ethical views of Christianity, but I do identify with Charity, even though it's distinctly cruel.
You're essentially telling me to shut up because you don't like Christianity. Your argument is no more valid than mine. You're basing your argument on the fact that you don't like Christianity, I'm basing it on the fact that Tolkien was a Christian and said personally that it was a "distinctly Catholic work". If that's not valid, I don't know what is.
This is the problem I have with most non-Christians; we butt heads and can't be open-minded toward each other.
@TerminalVelocity14 I can be open-minded, but I really don't like the 'Overreaching' feel christianity creates. My argument was not valid, but I know that it's almost impossible to argue logically or philosophically with anyone with a tone of bias. That goes for athiests as well as religious people. It's not valid because you're only relying on testimony-not a direct quote of Tolkien. The only way to argue successfully without Tolkien is to use testimony, truth value, evidence, belief, ndmotaspc
I agree, the relation of Melkor turning into Morgoth clearly is inspired of Lucifer turning in Satan, often tolkien refered to Morgoth as the fallen one, exactly like Satan, plus the many documentations that state LOTR as inspired by Christianity and of course Norse.
So, you're saying that you cannot have faith, courage and make sacrifices without being religious in any way? Just look at the thumbs down your comment got, and you'll see if you're right.
Stupid, everything Tolkien wrote about was based off of Norse Mythology. Gandelf himself has an Oden like figure. Not to mention storys of Elves, Dwarfs and Human Warriors (Vikings) are exactly related to norse mythology. For fuck sakes even the giant eagles and elephants are in norse mythology. Their is no christian presence in the books or movies at all, this is a pre-christian world.
@Whit3King, correct. He was inspired by all sorts of things, from his own experiences to mythology and Catholicism. He had extensive knowledge of British mythology and language because that was his day-job (he taught Old English at Oxford). I recently did a project for English class, in which I listed all his inspirations, and it was quite an extensive list. He did not just make this stuff up out of thin air.
You know, I have only seen this movie, oh about a dozen times, and EVERY time I see this, it looks as great as it did, the first time I saw it...and of course, makes me go back and watch it all over again-I just never get tired of watching the extended versions-they were made for raining days:-)
Peter Jackson did a good thing by making the extended versions.I love Lord Of The Rings. When i first got the 3 editions and watched the movie i was like in heaven. The scenes make the move so hillarious and i just cant explain.I just want to say the new and extended scenes are aweesssommme.
SILENCE you fool! Everything that bears the title 'The Lord of the Rings' is awesome! Now go away and see if you could have done a better job. Could you have won 17 academy awards? No.
Ironically the scenes they left out in the movie were almost pivotal to the story line. I love the extended versions, they are long but it is so worth it. especially if you are afan of the books!
Can someone tell me where's pippin (billy boid) accent from...even the character pippin has this distintictive accent in the movie....which i have to say is a littol annoying sometimes
in a way i pity the great actors in this epic. How can anything they will do after this be as large and beautiful? it sort of like living in permanent nadir of their roles here.
omg wait, so the Return of the King by itself has 50min of extended scenes??!! I thought the entire trilogy had 50min of extended scenes altogether. Am i right?
i actually thought that the extended edition was much better..like the part when they go and find saruman (the starting bit).. and the drinking game between gimli and legolas..that was soooo funny!!XD..
They should extend the 3 movies to the length of the books XD that would be like 10 hours containing every scene and every line from the book! Dream on Jack, dream on...
actually pj and guerrilmo del torro are directing the hobbit together, and have you seen pan's labrynth that was a classic movie that is directed by del torro, the hobbit will be the best movies of its years, and also theres going to be 2 movies, one in 2011 then 2012
I've always had the extended edition dvds and now I find it weird when I watch the cut-editions... I'm so used to each film being about 4 hours long! Lol :)

Whit3King 1 year ago
So, you're saying that you cannot have faith, courage and make sacrifices without being religious in any way? Just look at the thumbs down your comment got, and you'll see if you're right.
monkeywrench97 1 year ago
Stupid, everything Tolkien wrote about was based off of Norse Mythology. Gandelf himself has an Oden like figure. Not to mention storys of Elves, Dwarfs and Human Warriors (Vikings) are exactly related to norse mythology. For fuck sakes even the giant eagles and elephants are in norse mythology. Their is no christian presence in the books or movies at all, this is a pre-christian world.
666Warg999 1 year ago
but while the setting may be norse(and im afraid i disagree) he incorporated christian views into the story

WRONG! right off the top of my head i can think of at least three that clearly states tolkien's inspiration of catholicism.
1-Tolkiens reader companion
2-The origins of Tolkiens middle earth for dummies
3-The atlas of middle earth
and if your not convinced, just freaking look wikipedia up.
Whit3King 1 year ago
@Whit3King, correct. He was inspired by all sorts of things, from his own experiences to mythology and Catholicism. He had extensive knowledge of British mythology and language because that was his day-job (he taught Old English at Oxford). I recently did a project for English class, in which I listed all his inspirations, and it was quite an extensive list. He did not just make this stuff up out of thin air.

@TerminalVelocity14 No he did not. As he stated it wasn't intended as an allergy and he hated allergies.

@Redcarpet01 Well of course. Everyone hates allergies.

You know, I have only seen this movie, oh about a dozen times, and EVERY time I see this, it looks as great as it did, the first time I saw it...and of course, makes me go back and watch it all over again-I just never get tired of watching the extended versions-they were made for raining days:-)

It would be really cool to act some guy in this movie and "killing" the orcs. :)

Peter Jackson did a good thing by making the extended versions.I love Lord Of The Rings. When i first got the 3 editions and watched the movie i was like in heaven. The scenes make the move so hillarious and i just cant explain.I just want to say the new and extended scenes are aweesssommme.
gristoferg 2 years ago
No the extended version had some awful scenes, such as in Isengard, it never happened, Saruman was killed in the Shire
Also the terrible scene with Gandalf and the Witch King
Ohyewildthong 2 years ago
SILENCE you fool! Everything that bears the title 'The Lord of the Rings' is awesome! Now go away and see if you could have done a better job. Could you have won 17 academy awards? No.
stons14 2 years ago
I liked the movie for the most part, just not for example the scene with the Witch King against Gandalf. It goes completely against Tolkien's ideas.

Ironically the scenes they left out in the movie were almost pivotal to the story line. I love the extended versions, they are long but it is so worth it. especially if you are afan of the books!

in a way i pity the great actors in this epic. How can anything they will do after this be as large and beautiful? it sort of like living in permanent nadir of their roles here.

They should extend the 3 movies to the length of the books XD that would be like 10 hours containing every scene and every line from the book! Dream on Jack, dream on...

But...they are more than 10 hours long all together already?

Do you think they'll wreck the Hobbit movie.Make it suck like AVP R.Or they'll do a good job.Cause PJ aint directing it.
LOTRpunk 3 years ago
actually pj and guerrilmo del torro are directing the hobbit together, and have you seen pan's labrynth that was a classic movie that is directed by del torro, the hobbit will be the best movies of its years, and also theres going to be 2 movies, one in 2011 then 2012
