nice to know alot of my childhood turned into this shithole. Im only 20 but I remember I started going there when i was about 7. My dad raced his Vw bug here every single saturday. I remember being in the pits chatting with fellow racers and it broke my heart to see this track turn into... well, wasted money. I think that rather than turning a piece of history and hurting much of that community, these business dudes should have just renewed the track and made it more "appealing" if anything. Sad
You are so cool, my sole got riped apart when I heard that Carlsbad was turned into this shit hole, I just want someone to take a bull dozer to that whole place and return it to the glory that it was. I don't care what the cost. Take the gready basterds and dragum down the old track that is paved with the rubble from their delusions of the future. My friend won that race in 82 and he would aplaud.
I raced there about ten years ago and had a blast there. I was very sad when it was sold off. Now to see your video just makes me mad. WHY couldn't they have just built around it and kept the raceway intact? It seems like with this and El Cajon speedway gone fun is against the law. The politicians talk about what a problem street racing is yet they let tracks be closed.
Thank God Barona is on Indian land. It's a nice place, clean and well organized.
I skated the park 2 weeks after it opened, didn't ride the track till years later, wish I would have did the trifecta and raced on the drag strip, it is tough to drive by there and know its all gone.
Wow, how cool that this guy didthis.............how sad.......watched many Gran Prix's there, yes, in 1973..............and got to ride my Suzuki 125 here before they "paved paradise and put in a parking lot" Very Very sad, thanks for letting us all know about this.........
Jim, with the eminent commercial real estate collapse, what are we going to be able to do with developments like this? Can they be rezoned for housing? Will they have to be torn down? This is starting to happen everywhere. We luv your vids!
There's an empty lot near where I live that used to have two useful businesses, one a great hamburger joint. Then a developer decided we needed a condo business complex. Bankrupt, empty lot, today.
Problem is that there is fewer and fewer businesses that actually benefit the community. Fewer inexpensive places to eat, more empty high end offices.
