@Chainofdream Chocobo racing is kinda lame in this game. It's like square enix has some sort of mental block that prevents them from making a chocobo system the same as it was in FFVII. You have so little control over them in the races and raising chocobos is a linear and limited joke.

Hironobu Sakaguchi - His concept for Final Fantasy involved a large world map to explore and an engaging story. He leaves then these games come about :( I may play XIII-2 but I strongly doubt it after XIII.
Growing up with things like old Disney, old Squaresoft, and Miyazaki, one can understand what exactly has changed with Square over the years. Indeed change is good, but what I'm seeing here is like if Radiohead became Nickleback... what a shame.

I'll be honest, the only thing I'm not liking about the newer Final Fantasy games is how limited your exploration is when you get to the point where you can free roam anywhere you've been before (with the exceptions of one time only areas of course). To keep people interested and coming back you have to do new things. Why else would Final Fantasy still be around? A new story every time (and in this and X-2 the extension and addition to a great story), new characters, etc. It's always fresh.

@dingy06 I was surprised how much it showed/reveled but in all honesty there wasn't much for them to work with. Many sidequests/timelines are hardly essential to the disjointed and basic story. Really the only true story they left out was about Yuel's story. The whole game is really only half finished as evidenced by the "ending"

You could get a few with specific pre-orders but they will sucker you for the rest because they couldn't be bothered to release a full game (If you disagree wait till you "finish" the game)

You kidding? if actually paid attention, you would have predicted the outcome. the hints that serah is a seeress, the fact that if caius dies, so does the goddess. There is also the dlc which CONTINUES the story. so don't rage just because SE is making a complex story. Final Fantasy games have happy endings if you didn't notice. When does the world being completely destroyed equal happy ending?
The exploration is done right. The maps you travel on have soul. They have a history along with NPCs (each with their own personality) who tell about that history along with side missions once in a while unlike the 1st game
but the overall game fails at telling a good story. ff12 below all have better stories.a ff with a bad story=bad ff
This game is actually such an improvement on Final fantasy XIII, I HATED XIII, and swore I would never play this game, thankfully, I caught my girlfriend cheating on me with it, as I watched her play, I realised, you know... this actually looks pretty damn good. The game only improves combat, meaning monster catching. Monster catching in games IS SO MUCH FUN. but... monster catching in a ff has to be done right. it has to tie in the game some how, through the story or an add to a characters ability they gained somehow.

@XXCo0olDudeXX Agreed. its terrible how much they are putting off kingdom hearts 3. Making 500 spin off titles on inferior/useless systems (PSP yuck). Sadly they are desperately integrating these spin offs so KH3 people will be missing out on a bunch of stories unless they buy 3 other systems (DS, PSP and now 3DS for people who already got DS) and lesser games on them.

@Chainofdream Chocobo racing is kinda lame in this game. It's like square enix has some sort of mental block that prevents them from making a chocobo system the same as it was in FFVII. You have so little control over them in the races and raising chocobos is a linear and limited joke.

people need to stop complaining how the new final fantasies are not like 7 and shit. like seriously how boring would it get if they made the same game over and over again, if you love ff7 that bad go whip out your ps1 and have fun. I give them props for trying different types of battle systems. And for the exploration part, sure its a tad bit linear but the game itself has 50 hours of gameplay already, and i really wouldnt feel like dedicating an extra fucking 300 hours of doing pointless shit..

I'll be honest, the only thing I'm not liking about the newer Final Fantasy games is how limited your exploration is when you get to the point where you can free roam anywhere you've been before (with the exceptions of one time only areas of course). To keep people interested and coming back you have to do new things. Why else would Final Fantasy still be around? A new story every time (and in this and X-2 the extension and addition to a great story), new characters, etc. It's always fresh.

Don't tell real fans how they should feel about their series that has taken a drastic turn in recent installments. FFXIII was a good game, i like it more then a lot of complainers so, but they do sacrifice a key and enjoyable element for a minimal increase in flow.

@dingy06 I was surprised how much it showed/reveled but in all honesty there wasn't much for them to work with. Many sidequests/timelines are hardly essential to the disjointed and basic story. Really the only true story they left out was about Yuel's story. The whole game is really only half finished as evidenced by the "ending"

You could get a few with specific pre-orders but they will sucker you for the rest because they couldn't be bothered to release a full game (If you disagree wait till you "finish" the game)

The exploration is done right. The maps you travel on have soul. They have a history along with NPCs (each with their own personality) who tell about that history along with side missions once in a while unlike the 1st game
but the overall game fails at telling a good story. ff12 below all have better stories.a ff with a bad story=bad ff

The game only improves combat, meaning monster catching. Monster catching in games IS SO MUCH FUN. but... monster catching in a ff has to be done right. it has to tie in the game some how, through the story or an add to a characters ability they gained somehow.
its too bad they didnt mix it in with anything. its just hey guys now we can play pokemon in a ff... just wtf?
