  • Will Swan screams at the end?????

  • His lyrics remind me of the Mars Volta. I have to take 48 tabs of acid to understand anything.

  • Almost all of Jon Mess' lyrics are random. He's said so himself. But sometimes he puts meaning into them. Like this song.

  • jon fucking mess > anybody in the world

  • Ready to blow

  • kinda mad i stay on top of all new cds bands and core style music an that was the first time i herd this i have dtbm2 stored on my ibrain an now you're tell me i have to learn a new song lol love it!

  • stored & left unread.

  • People You Know > People You Knew

  • @xRazo25x I love you

  • People You Know is about anger, while People You Knew is about saddness. It all depends if you prefer to hear pain or rage.

  • 1:40 <3..

  • I love the picture where Will just blends into the background wallpaper with his hoodie

  • is will screaming in this song too near the end?

  • I think this song should have been named Perfect, because this is exactly what it was.

  • Jon Mess is my hero. I don't care if most of his lyrics don't make sense, at least he has enough imagination to think of funny random shit instead of emo wah wah bullshit. He actually projects anger.

  • @JohnnyBuckrot Eh, I can listen to hardcore for pure anger, not hating on this song but nonsensical lyrics don't make you a good writer.

  • @JohnnyBuckrot His lyrics are definitely not random. They might seem that way because of his choice of vocabulary, but he just puts the words together to make metaphors, analogies and such. Jon Mess is a lyrical genius and he puts heart into his lyrics and screams. I've never recognized so much emotion from any other vocalist, but that's probably because he's part of what makes DGD so amazing.

  • @SpencerBarriosTV Uhm, No. I fail to see any meaning behind his lyrics in the song "Pounce Bounce"

  • @NothingBetterToWatch i do. its not that hard. well yeah some of them in that song i have no idea like the ""lethally overdosed on pumpkin pie"

  • @MFRuth3rf0rd Okay then, explain "What it's like to be a marble, did I get something in your eye?"

  • @SpencerBarriosTV I would have agreed with this on any other CD.

  • @SpencerBarriosTV This album had the least meaning by their lyricism yet.

  • does anyone else get goosebumps right at 2:02? right when that happens...i fuck shit up!

  • This is basically Secret Band

  • @Saiyan513 no, its basically a s sequel to 'People You Know' by Dance Gavin Dance, which is only screams. but with less "OR MAYBE I COULD JUST GET A REAL FUCKING JOOOOB"

  • @myaccountissocooler Secret Band is the DGD side project, which is basically DGD without Jonny. They have a 4-song EP out. That's what he meant.

  • @RazicatSpokr yeah i know.

  • WAS I EVER A CHILD BEFORE?! WAS I EVER A CHILD BEFORE?!

  • wills screams at the end is honestly the best way possible to end the album

  • Ok no fucking joke, everyone make 2 tabs and play perfect by dgd in one tab and people you knew by dgd in the other tab. let perfect play for a couple seconds and then play people you knew and they almost over lap eachother and sound like one song. no fucking lie. its not perfect(lol pun) but it actually sounds kinda sick. especially around 2:00

  • @sheldon445 Can you be a bit more specific?

  • @MegaDannix I personnaly let perfect play for 5 secs and then play this song, not sure if this is what he hears aswell...hope this helps

  • @sheldon445 nice find

  • This song goes from amazing to perfect at 1: 40

  • If matt looks like a rapist eric's the serial killer locked away in an asylum lol

  • Kudos to americahllohllohello...damn that is the best interpretation I have heard yet. God damn....that was just brilliant. At first I didn't really understand it. But after listening to the song a couple of time yours like, "Wait...oh shit!!!", well at least that's me anyway. But yeah really fucking good man, hat off to you sir or madam.

  • lawlz, Matt Mingus totally doesn't look like a rapist..

  • @NecroharmoNikki I think it's more "Once was a pornstar" :p

  • This band really doesn't need jonny at all. Kick jonny and I really wouldn't care. The only vocals I listen to are jon's.

  • @RWSThe101 Check out 'Secret Band' then. It's DGD without clean vox pretty much.

  • @dlsNi Too late bro. LOVE THE FUCK OUTTA THEM. Jonny even said tho that he didn't really try on this album.

  • Will at 2:03?

  • @KazooooooooTV yeah thats will.

  • I'm pretty sure Jon Mess' middle name is Fuckin'

    JON FUCKIN' MESS

  • I bought this shit at Hot Topic and I didn't get any bonus songs on my album. I did buy it a little late, though.

  • It rules when post hardcore bands take influence from real screamo. This song is great.

  • favorite from this album

  • i did not mean to post that twice

  • John mess and will swan sing the song will comes in at the end after his guitaur solo

  • John mess and will swan sing the song will comes in at the end after his guitaur solo

  • SO glad I bought this song, and "Perfect" on that limited edition 7'' vinyl...

    Fuckin' rocks!

  • Who else loves this song, but pre-ordered the album online? >.<

  • Jon's scream at 2:03 is probably the deepest I've ever heard from him.

  • @ImChrisRichards thats because its will swan

  • @jakegv28 haha that makes a lot of sense then. I thought they just layered his screams at that part or something. Regardless both of them screaming is ridiculous(in a good way)

  • @ImChrisRichards yeah ik what you mean haha

  • @ImChrisRichards its will screaming, they do back to back

  • The screams in this one are like in the first album. Loved that album.

  • FATAL BLOW FATAL BLOW YES INDEED

  • Best track on DBM2. Pure emotion, and raw as fuck.

  • @RMona94 Couldn't have said it better. That's why I love People you know and knew. But this one just goes above and beyond after 2:15.

  • @RMona94 Not as raw as the first one.

  • @RMona94 what about perfect?:O

  • I think instrumentaly this is the most DGD sounding song on the album

  • @Remebertehfallen Or, instead of dodging the question, answer it. Please, give me your interpreting side on the lyrics I posted, without having to google them.

  • @IfTheBannersFall What's it like to be a marble? what it's like to be knocked around Did I get something in your eye? Is it me who made you see unclearly She's a referee and I am over dosed on Pumpkin Pie. = She's in charge butI disire something that I must knock her down for.

    Understand it.

  • @MetalfanRockfan I much prefer americahllohllohello's interpretation. Thank God lyrics are based on interpretation and not factual events.

  • @Remebertehfallen Lurk moar.

  • Same here.. It's sexxy <33

  • God..this is beautiful..Dance Gavin Dance shall forever remain one of my very favorite bands. *____*

  • @EstellinaEmmure did they break up or sumthin?

  • @fusion00223 No but they did change their band members around a few times..

  • @EstellinaEmmure oh yh yh i know about that :) but love this song though

  • i like how they will screaming in this song in the background

  • Gotta love the emotion they put into this one.

  • URBANSKULLZ CLOTHING follow @urbanskullzinc we will follow you backz

  • WAS I EVER A CHILD BEFORE WAS I EVER A FUCKING CHILD BEFORE ! I FUCKING SWEAR JON MESS' FUCKING SCREAMING IS FUCKING ORGASMIC IN THE FUCKING EAR ! SO FUCKING BEAST !!!!

  • damn, i think my soul just jizzed in its pants

thats how amazing this song is

  • favorite song on the album! some of the best lyrics ive ever fucking heard!!!!!!!

  • Go check out secret band...

everyone from DGD except The Legend..

pretty sick if you like Jon Mess..

  • @NecroharmoNikki Will Swan isn't in it? :(

  • I think... my soul just had a orgasm @ exactly 2:04.

  • This song is not long enough!! :'(

  • The first time I heard this I was like where the fuck is Jonny or Kurt and then I remembered Jon is consistent and reliable. The second listen made me realize how great he is...again.

  • @shankyplays lol you got me, fair enough.

  • How great is what jon does? I mean he practically said that his lyrics don't mean shit but maybe that's what he wants us to think, to be more creative figuring them out?

I don't know but it's awesome to see how much some people can take home from the stuff he's written, seriously, it's like everyone having a hard time can exactly see himself in his lyrics... Maybe that's what he wants, maybe that, too, is lyricism in a strange twisted way, but it works for a lot of people

  • the end of this sends chills down my back every time i hear it.

  • I notice that in each new album, Jon screams a little different. Listen to WISIRO, and he sounds like a demon haha it changes a little in DBM & Death Star, like you can comprehend the words better. He does it clearer. Here, in DBM II, it's kind of higher. Not that I don't like it, it's just something I noticed. Thumbs up if you agree :)

  • @thatdamnwetback It's because his voice has probably been worn out with all the touring. I still like all the stages his voice went through.

  • @thatdamnwetback The reason his screams are so different in this album is because he learned how to do them differently so that he wouldnt strain his vocal chords as much I think. Cause if you saw them live before dbm 2 his face would get really red like he was putting too much strain on his voice... Thats my guess why the changed...

  • @thatdamnwetback damn wet back.....

  • thumbs up if you think john mess's screams were better before this album

  • @MrHorrorAddict it's not better or worse, its just a different emotion and motivation in each song.

  • @ELJAi2010 well what im saying is they sound different than in older albums

  • @MrHorrorAddict Jon Mess*

  • @bicycleboy55 suck it!

  • Swan... you are my hero.

  • i loved people you know the moment i heard it but it took me 2x to love this one... idk what happened but when i listened to it again i was stunned... now its my fav. on the album... the more i listen the more i like it...

    ~~d(-_-)b~~

  • @baboo2byc omg right?! like this time i'm really liking it!

  • @thenickjenn i was always told it was either kurt or jonny, which explains why it sounds shitty to me, didn't seem like mess' work, but you don't have to go there, dgd is my favorite band, just because i didn't want to listen to the self-titled album as much as the rest doesn't mean you should call me an idiot, if anything point out why you follow celebrity work so much and don't release any work of your own, live in their shadow but never own a shadow of your own.

  • @antlulz well slap your sources cuz u suck bitch ass nigga

  • @antlulz Why would Jonny be on a DGD record after he was kicked out? And better yet, why would he be screaming a whole song when he's a talented clean singer..? Didn't think that through much did you.

On an unrelated note, the last minute of this song is unbelievable. I pray they eventually play this live.

  • @ShankyPlays you do realise jonny is in this whole album right?

  • @ShankyPlays my bad, not on about this album :)

  • Comment removed

  • @thenickjenn

john mess didn't do vocals for people you know.

  • @antlulz yes he did.

  • @antlulz yes he did lol. you obviously dont listen to much dance gavin dance.

  • @antlulz idiot lol

  • i think jon mess was being a bit uncharacteristically poetic with this one...and i love it

"a slave to believe in always looking back, nothing has beaten meaning based on fact"

i mean, that shit makes sense...

  • This is going to sound like a dumb question by why does Jon's screams sound more light in this album but in dtbm 1 and in Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean they sound more heavier and more like a scream

  • I think for Jon and the rest of the band it's all about the music. The lyrics take a back seat in favor of the sound and cadence of the vocals.

  • @CULTdotREF That's weird because I find Jon Mess's lyrics so meaningful but in a very abstract way. I mean not all of them, like his lyrics in this album are pretty funny, but I think his DTBM lyrics are just genius. It's even better that he doesn't try haha.

  • I would much rather they just made up random shit that sounds good instead of trying to push some pretentious or political message or worst just write a typical love song or something dumb like that. There are tons of bands you can look at and think "damn that guy is just stringing together depressing/angry words" you know what I mean. At least Jon Mess is honest about the fact that his lyrics don't really mean anything in any larger sense.

  • DAMN A WHOLE JON MESS SONG THEY DONT NEED JONNY OR KURT

  • Everything they speak of is figurative <3 it's so fuckin amazing ;D

  • this is my Jam ♥

  • Great song, but not enough FUCK imo.

  • people you know is the most intense 4 minutes ive ever heard put down on a track...this...not so much...doesnt even deserve to have a name close to it

  • Shoosh your faces, and just listen <3

  • These are the lyrics i missed, Once Mess left the band you could quickly tell how different DGD became. It wasn't cuz of Kurt or the instruments but the lyrics, man ! It's all about the lyrics i've read the lyrics to a couple songs now and it's the crazy ass random no-sense screamed lyrics that makes this band stick out and different from all them other bands. One of the first songs with Mess and Will screaming fucking amazing. :D I can tell they're having a lot of fun in this album. Much Love<3

  • amazinggg :)

  • Was I ever a child before? <3

  • I love jonny craig will swan matt mingus and definately definately jon mess. He's a big inspiration.

  • No offense on Jonny's part but I'm beginning to now realize how much people are overlooking Jon Mess as a musician. I mean he is seriously a great lyricist considering he writes over half the lyrics in like all the albums hes been in but to the average person he is labeled "the one who screams". pfft sounds like bullshit to me, he knows more about music than alot of people will ever know

  • @KrazziJ24 Well, maybe if he had better screaming lyrics they'd be looked at.

  • @KrazziJ24 truee :)

  • Comment removed

  • @KrazziJ24 Great lyricist? Haha fuck no! He just gets really high and writes things that sound cool together.

  • @KrazziJ24 He actually knows art. He drew the front cover for whatever I say is royal ocean. Pretty legit.

  • @KrazziJ24 You're mistaking 'great lyricist' for 'talentless lyricist'. Anyone age 12 and older could literally replicate his lyrical style, because it's achieved by simply getting drugged up and writing the silliest random jargon you can think of in a ten second time frame. Now his playing, that's something.

  • @IfTheBannersFall yet he's still more famous than you'll ever be so obviously its something

  • @IfTheBannersFall your mistaking yourself as "being intelligent"...how are you going to say this or any of dance gavin dance songs are purely random jargon...maybe if youd look beyond the literal meaning of shit youd get it, but i cant blame you, your probably a kid whos grown up on horrible fuckin music with no substance to it...just smoke some weed and go through a rough point in life and youll be feelin what he has to say in no time

  • @TheCooldude454 I don't have time to argue with you. Please, by all means, explain to me what "What's it like to be a marble? Did I get something in your eye? She's a referee, and I'm overdosed on pumpkin pie." Please explain to myself and the rest of us who can't capture this lyrical genius the exact meaning behind it, would you?

  • @IfTheBannersFall

What's it like to be a marble? = What's it like to be an overvalued item that has such limited usefulness?

Did I get something in your eye? - Like a cat-eye marble, the most common; he's asking, '"did I just shatter your whole paradigm of reality?"

She's a referee = She thinks she has the world figured out just because she's attractive.

And I'm lethally overdosed on pumpkin pie = Admitting that we as humans all have vices, and even the smallest over-indulgences add up. :3?

  • @americahllohllohello Actually im pretty sure there is absolutely no meaning due to the fact that dance gavin dance is to bad ass for meanings and release songs that they just like blurting out and dont try to put meaning behind the lyrics.

  • @americahllohllohello fail at the referee interpretation.

That has no relevance to anything you just said. She's a referee would represent that she's the one who watches him and calls the fouls every time he fucks up - like when he eats too much pumpkin pie.

  • @pSychOAtDawn "She's a referee", in this case, is irony - it means that she thinks she's a referee, but actually knows as much as, or less than the author of the lyrics.

This is all based on personal interpretation, so maybe Kurt will be able to explain further.

  • @americahllohllohello

Im pretty sure Kurt had nothing to do with the writing of this song, bro.

  • @dancingwithcalvin Sorry, I meant Jon Mess - and I was referring to "Pounce Bounce".

  • @americahllohllohello dude PLEASE help us decode all of jon mess's insane words your like the ultimate decoder right now lol

  • @americahllohllohello pounce bounce right ?

  • @americahllohllohello What's it like to be a marble? what it's like to be knocked around Did I get something in your eye? Is it me who made you see unclearly She's a referee and I am over dosed on Pumpkin Pie. = She's in charge but I desire something that I must knock her down for.

    Understand it.

  • @americahllohllohello My bad not you.Wrng person My bad.Ignore my last comment.

  • @americahllohllohello

Did you purposely post this to the wrong song.....cuz...ahem....you posted it to the wrong song

  • @ugart3 Shut up and lurk moar.

  • @americahllohllohello The lyrics have no meaning lol. They hardly (if ever) put meanings in their songs.

  • @deth349 thats not true.

  • @YouthClash It is true. Yes some songs have meaning but they focus on getting a good sound out and lyrics to them dont HAVE to mean something.

  • @deth349 Look up the lyrics, they have a lot of meaning.

  • @americahllohllohello

Holy shitballs! I thought Jon Mess pretty much got baked out of his mind before writing lyrics and just spewed out humorous nonsense. But now I'm convinced he's the deepest, most creative person on the planet.

  • @americahllohllohello YOU ARE AMAZING.

  • @TheCooldude454 haha i get what he's saying, they do technically say random fucking shit, but it's not bad, i mena how many other bands yell brontosaurus rex randomly, bet you no band like this, just saying.

  • @TheCooldude454 And you're mistaking yourself as knowing something. Jon Mess has said before that 90% of Dance Gavin Dance lyrics don't make sense. And that on the first EP they made the lyrics up on the spot while drunk and high. So, I think I might actually believe what the lyricist says, instead of a fan boy.

  • @vcr130 That's his point. He loves Jonny Craig, but this song sounds awesome even with all screams :)

  • @vcr130 I don't think he meant Jonny Craig, but screaming in general xD

  • As much as I love Jonny Craig, all screams sounds good with the instruments chosen.

  • Will swan is as gracefull and elegant as his last name lol

  • now this is post-hardcore at its best

  • this song is amazing, but to everyone associating it with people you know:People you know wasnt just a song by DGD, it was a msg to the world of today, to all of the people in teen years who live their lives like the real world and skins and jersey shore and all those other shows on mtv,its a "wake the fuck up and see wat you are" kinda msg, all put into an awesome song

  • @birdman44 agreed
