if you use pravana, even though it says to put it directly on you hair, mix in a weak peroxide, like 10 or 20 vol, and it will last much longer and wont rub onto your skin. i learned that the hard way with purple.
I now started using Vitality's Espresso conditioner for my red hair- it's this blood coloured conditioner that has red pigment in it- you have to wear gloves to use it or your nails will look gross for AGES. I only started using this but I've heard a lot of great comments about it, so yay :D But you just got to accept the fact that red dye fades superfast (especially on blondes!) I've been dying my hair for three years now, and it doesn't get better, unfortunately :(
okay i have a huge question, my hair was black and my roots came in and my bangs were like a faded aqua color and i bleached it all and the bangs were pale blonde and my roots too but the black turned like a orange color and some of them just lightened like a tint or two but then i wen over it with splat luscious raspberries and the top came out really pretty but the back is like orange red and i've washed it maybe twice since i did it i did it like 3 days ago on saturday and it's already faded
I've had red hair for about three years now, every 3-4 weeks I dye it again but what helps it not fade is put some dye in your conditioner. it honestly helps. it takes a long time to rinse out, but it keeps the color you Want. the trick is, 2 parts dye, 1 part conditioner. it really helps and I've been doing it for years. :)
see i wash my hair every day and im goo to the salon to do my hair cuz i have really curl long mixed type hair and if i dont wash mine i feel gross but they told me not ot wash it every day cuz it makes your hair really really dry but i love your hair color and that actually helped alot thaks :}
Hi there, I've been wanted to dye my hair red like for ever but never had the guts to actually do it. Is there some sort of red highlights or light red I can go for ? I have natural brown hair and a fair skin tone, that looks quite a bit like yours. Every time I see a girl with red hair it looks so pretty I really want it (my main inspiration is Florence Welch, from Florence and The Machine :D)
L'oreal Feria hair color takes FOREVER to rinse clear, I used that the first few times I dyed my hair, which was about 5 times over the course of two years. Then I switched to Garnier Nutrisse, I don't know if you've tried it, but it rinsed out fairly quickly and left my hair feeling great. It's all I use now. (:
I used ion and it didnt bleed out in the shower, it just faded maybe two shades within about a month in half. I do need to touch up my roots now but over all ion works pretty well for me.
red colour always washing out. you just confirm a lot of things i was thinking cos i wanna go a coppery red. but how times a month do you dye your hair?
I also have big frizzy hair and completely get what you mean by not washing it everyday. I wash mine about 2 maybe 3 times a week and I know this is going to sound odd but once a week I put eggs in my hair. lol. Helps alot.
thanx so much Leesha for the tip on primer and filler for dyeing hair red...I have looked everywhere for someone to actually go through alll the stuff for red hair. thanx again. Irene
my friend washes her hair MAYBE once a week... lol i cant go one day without washing my hair because it gets super greasy so i use ALOT of dry shampoo <3
@Coolcatsaradara it takes awhile to train your hair. when you stop washing it every day at first it will get greasy but you just have to grit through it and then your hair will stop producing so much oils.
my hair is the exact same way, i could totally not wash it forever and it would look fine. i love your hair, you're super pretty and also I've been thinking of dyeing my hair a brownish auburn. thanks so much for this video:) i'm gonna subscribe.
i love the color of your hair! it looks like ariana grandes color, so my hair is red red, but i need my roots done, i wanna save some money and do it myself but im afraid of f'n it up. I like your color, u think if i did the magenta color for hi-color highlights then put the special effect cherry bomb, that itd would make the color like ariana?
I just dyed my hair red . I had to bleach it because i had jet black hair . . . However i still have some spotts here & there that are BLACK :/ , if i use the loreal hicolor highlights in red or magenta with the protein color filler in #10 red red , will that even it out ? & make it brighter ?
I noticed every girl i see with red dyed hair is really light complected,so I just dyed my bangs and bottom half of my hair,im not as light complected as you would it not look as good if i dye my whole hair red?
its not only you! i dyed my hair blue and it literally took 45 minutes! and then i also washed it and there was sooooooooooo much dye running out!
and i have 2 questions. i have jet black hair now and i wanna bleach it so i can have the color hair you have. so what should i dye it to? like blonde light brown? and my second question is how long does your color last?
HEYYY i wash my hair only 2 times a week too! my hair is also bright red, but even if it was my natural colour i only wash it twice a week cuz its too dry to wash everyday or every other day =P
I am planing to dye my hair a permanent red because i am hoping it will last longer then coloring it with manic panic to get it more vivid . Will using permanent make much of a difference?
you should try the hair dyd called splat...i have had red hair fr about 7 years and that is by far the best stuff i have ever used and its only b7 bucks at walgreens or cvs.. it is sooo bright and lasts a long time.. just make sure you put vasoline on your head and ears cuz it will stick forever =]
I had the same problem with manic panic!!! and i dont like to leave dyes on my head cause it can get on your pillow and when you touch your hair its that color!! I'm so glad that i wasnt the only one having that problem!! But no matter what i did the dye just kept coming out.
I don't think red would look that great on me... eh.. no. Red looks best on paler skinned people, that's probably why people with naturally red hair usually have pale skin. I don't have pale skin.
It's better to avoid washing your hair everyday. It strips your hair of its natural oils every single time and contributes to it drying out. It doesn't do any good especially when people straighten/curl/blowdry it everyday.
I rarely ever blowdry my hair because of the heat damage and I never straighten or curl it. And I only wash 1-2 times a week and my hair is still healthy after all this time. It's been about two years or so and I'm finally finding a split end, lmao.
hobo oil!! hahaa my hair gets greasy sooooo easily i HAVE to wash it every 2 days otherwise i look gross can you recomend any shampoo which might help my hair last so i dont have to keep washing it? and my hair is a natural brown but i really want to go red, any suggestions on which number i should choose? im looking for one a bit darker thank yours if you can help me out i would be so grateful thanks xx
I have bright red hair and I shampoo 1-2 times a week although I run hot water through it everyday and condition ONLY the ends every 2 days which makes is look like it's washed and smells good as well :)
PS: The hot water only fades your hair if you are using shampoo. Use cold water with shampoo but you can use hot water if no shampoo is used!
this is exactly what i do to keep my hair bright red. another thing i do is after dyeing it, you rinse the dye only with water(as cold as you can take it), and you only shampoo after 2-3 days.

OMFG YES! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS! I colored my hair with manic panic vampire red like over a month ago and even used the loreal hi color hi lights on my hair over it and everytime I shower the water in the tub is blood red! I'm so tired of it.
@carissabreanna I just used vampire red manic panic and I am now in a panic everything is turning pink!!!!!! I actually went in my front yard at 8:00 at night had the spot lights on to rinse my hair out with the hose because of all the redish pink ! please respond and tell me how long it took for the color to stop streaming out ! I love the color but there has to be a better way :) thanks oh and by the way I now have a bottle of spray bleach to spray my shower evertime i use it
@pammyglo1 I honestly don't know how long it takes. I guess depends on how often you wash your hair. When I would color my hair red I'd use half of the hair color and half conditioner so the red won't get on everything just as much. I like your idea with the spray bottle! But my hair isn't red anymore :/ lol
I dyed my hair red at the salon, and I want it a little brighter but they said they'd have to strip my hair, which I don't want . So I was thinking of using a box dye to make it brighter - would you recommend using the box dye over the salon dye? & if you have any other suggestions to brighten the red in my hair. Thank you!!
hi, i love this red on u and have tried many times to get the same shade but no matter how bright of a red i dye my hair it still doesnt come out like urs...my natural shade was dark brown but i have dyed my hair in the past... now that i want it to be a red shade like urs it wont. wat colors did u use for urs exactly and what would u reccommend me to do?
What happens if you put color zap on virgin hair? I have like 2 cm of virgin hair and then the red colr that i want to use the zap on. Will those 2 cm get yellow ?
that wasn't too bad. I knew a girl once who also dyed her hair completely red and she would only wash it once a week since she had a "normal" hair type :T
For the vegetable based dye, was is it a good thing for you that it lasted long? You said compared to the L'Oreal one, it seemed to wash out way more and it took forever to rinse out, does that mean it lasted longer or something? :)
I agree with everything you say here! I only wash my hair once or twice a week as well. It's just SO much better for the hair! My hair is dry and coarse and curly and I dye it as well. I probably shampoo only every other shower as well, it helps retain my color as well as moisture.
i only wash my hair 2 times a week also! And a long time ago wen i washed it every other day, it wasnt healthy at all! It was very dry, frizzy, and even tangley. but ever since i started washing it 2 a week its been SO much healthier and it doesnt get greasy either.. :]
and I know what you mean, I have really vurly hair and I don't wash my hair everyday aswell, I wash it every other 3 or 2 days. so don't be embarassed!! [=
Hi, i have been trying to figure out what colour i should dye my to, i have naturally brown hair and i've had it blonde, black, orange-red and like between those and i dyed it two months ago to red and black, the red didn't turn out so good and now i have like orange-red and brown hair and i just need someones opinion for what colour i should dye it to. Pleeease tell me your opinnion!!!!
I have natural bleach blonde hair and I had dyed it black, My hair grows fast so within a week I needed to re-dye it :( But now I have red hair alittle lighter then yours :) Great video!!!!
I have red hair, & i live in the UK and I use schwarzkopf live xxl reds, and i havent dyed my hair in about 5 weeks? and its still really red, just a bit dimmer than it was when i first dyed it. Also, I dyed it over bleached hair so im pretty suprised it hasnt gone orange :P but yeah i wash my hair every other day, just reccomending that brand :)
do or anyone know of a uk equivalent to the Protein Filler cause i cant get in the uk,,,,,, its so frustrating seeing everyone say how wonderful this stuff is!
instead of a protein filler you can also use additives. But it kind of sucks for those who have to shop at sally's or the grocery store or something for hair dye because that shit really sucks; hair dye from those kind of places almost always sucks and washes out pretty fast.
@mendigasol I just recently did this. I'm telling you from YEARS of experience with dying my hair that bleach is the most effective way to get black out. If you JUST dyed your hair black and want it out, try color removers/correctors ; but if it has been black for a while then that most likely won't work. Other than that, bleach is about it. My hair has had it too and that's why you just got to wait it out or lighten it very slowly. Have any other ?'s let me know I can probably answer them :]
Thanks for the tips :) I also read somewhere that you can add 1/8 of your red dye in a neutral shampoo, so every time you wash your hair you'll be enhancing the red. I have tried this mostly because I live in a desert and of course here is always summer. So imagine sweating all day :( you-have-to-shower-every-day!!! At least this tip has worked, so far 2 weeks and no-fading issues :)
how did u go about doing the 2 dye's? did u mix them together or did you separate dying between days? Because i have long hair up to the middle of my back maybe a bit longer. How much dye would i need? im sorry im asking alot of questions..
I wash my hair twice a week, i dont need to do it anymore as it doesnt get greasy, and my hair is cherry red at moment and definitely the dye is looking better than a friends who washes every day. My hair is so long and thick i would hate to do it everyday it takes forever! I dont think its disgusting to wash twice a week as its better for your natural oils on your scalp and your hair condition. Loved your video and have subscribed! xx
Thanks for the tips! Didn´t know that cold water could help maintain the color. Gonna try next time i wash my hair! True what you say about not being able to wash your hair every day,my hair turns into pink every time I wash it! Good video!
Your hair tips really helped. My semi-permanent red dye lasted THREE MONTHS before it began to fade. On top of that, it turned a nice pink and NOT orange! :3 I didn't have to redye it forever and by the time it was a light pink, I wanted a new color anyway. For the record sulfate-free shampoo works pretty well for not stripping color. I can't use something like Hair One. It's too much build up for my hair type! Anyway, onto turquoise:P Thanks Leesha! I WILL be going red again :3
i love your hair and i have done and followed all products and advice you give on dying red hair..... but i think that you should do tutorial on how to dye it but showing us you doing it i really think it would help many who want red hair i love your vids and the advice you give i just think that would help youtubers a lot xoxo much love
I found that getting my hair colored at a salon-their hair color doesn't last half as long as the stuff you get at the store. I like the Garnier line mostly because their latest line(not sure what its called) has less ammonia and more vegetable(bamboo) components. My hair is the reddest its ever been. I love it but I think Im the only one.
Veggie dyes stain you're hair and are pretty permanent (gets very deep into the hair shaft)--it also makes it harder to color over it, so that is probably why it took so long to wash out.
i love your hair. it's gorgeous. i started dying mine red about a month ago it's not that red but my hair stylist want to take it slow to not damage my hair. i'm trying for the red you have or like Ariana Grande if you know who that is. and less showers that will be hard for me since my hair gets extremely oily. i might go back to brown but i want red cuz it's soooo pretty.
I recently dyed my hair red, I used N Rage Colour in Crimson Red.
it's been a week and a half, and it's still rinsing out a bit red, and when i shampoo, the suds are still pink >_< so yes, i have that whole, taking forever to rinse out thing.
wow, thanks for the info! I jus also wanted to add that when u do shampoo, avoid the shampoos with any sort of CITRUS in them. Citrus strips color out of yer hair even faster. Also with my shampoos and conditioners, i add some special effects or whatever seperate color into it also..so that im giving it a lil color boost even when im washing my hair. thanks so much! i cant wait to try your 'new' ideas..ive never used a dry shampoo or a protein color filler. a trip to sallys is in order!
Honestly I'm sooo jealous that you can go that long without washing your hair. I'm one of the chicks who have gotten into the habit of washing my hair everrrry morning. Doesn't really help that I'm OCD. -.-
I just highlighted it red so I'm working on cutting back :)
Your hair is awesome in this vid! I frickin love red hair! I was platinum blonde for the longest time and just recently went red .... I always seem to find my way back to red! LOL! Plus with my eyes being yellowish green, it makes them brighter and kinda like cat eyes .. so it's cool haha! have you ever tried "RAW" hairdye from Hot Topic?
I have red hair too, I didn't need to bleach it. I used a store brand red hair dye. Then I went over to a local Sally's Beauty Suply to buy a semi temperary color to make it brighter. It worked really well. But now, I have to wash it about every other 3 days. The dye makes it pretty dry, so it's healthier for your hair to wash less. The dye fades out in about a week, but it doesn't fade to an ugly color, but more of a pretty-ish auburn. I hope this helped for any brown haired people out there!<3
Keeping your hair bleach blond is even worse :/ My hair is so frieddd. I asked you the question on your sleeping beauty tutorial. I really hope you reply back to that. I dont really have red hair issues... i just want to make it REDDER super red without bleaching it again.. because that just SUCKED for years.
I used to have bright red hair. I loved it and i totally know where ur coming from. Yea i remember when it faded and my hair matched the fall leavesx)
I have been using the Goldwell Elumen hair color (red, comes in different colors, thou) for little over a year, and no other brand have made my color stay great for that long (two - three months) and wear that little on the hair itself. It contains no chemicals so not only do it limit the damage dying hair does on your hair (and environment) but most allergic people can use it too. Hooray! ;) If you wash your hair too often it ruins the natural oils in it, causing it to get greasy a lot faster.
@PatchedHeart103 I don't know if it'll help at all since you probably want her reply, but I too have red hair [more neon than this actually.] I used Cherry Bomb from Special Effects by itself over bleached white-blond hair. If you wanted it more toned down or don't want to damage your hair I would put it over medium blond to light brown hair. There are less damaging hair lighteners in the market than straight bleach. Nuclear Red from Special Effects is even more vibrant if you...
@PatchedHeart103 wanted to use it over not whiteish hair and get vibrant effects, I'd try that. The one I used IS semi-permanent, but when I initially dyed it I left it in for 2 1/2 hours [it's vegetable dye... you can leave it in as long as you want] and it takes a while to fade. I ouch up ever 3-5 weeks as needed and use John Frieda shampoo+cond. for red hair
@PatchedHeart103 every 3 days or so and it has worked out well for me. [I am however, considering trying out the Hair One she mentioned...] Best of luck! Sorry for triple comment but I ran out of characters twice :X
ok i recently dyed my hair red n i wash my hair everyday but i was curious do you think if i just rinsed it with warm/cold water do you think the color will last longer?
@Alexys2011 yes but it will look greasier. Seriously the best thing you can do is try to wash it at least just every other day at most. And, use shampoo designed for colored red hair. (:
@Alexys2011 I have bright red hair and I wash it every day: when you put in conditioner (red hair specified), leave it in for a couple of minutes (I leave it in for 3), and rinse in COLD WATER. It sucks hardcore because the water is usually freezing, but it won't strip colour as badly. My hair fades after about 3 weeks to one month.
Washing your hair every other day is recommended, but my hair gets greasy after one day, so I still do it every day.
I recently just dyed my hair red, and when I need a little pick me up from fading, I use shampoo that I've added a bit of dye to. I wash my hair normally with it and let it sit for a couple mins then rinse.
I was wondering if that protein thing worked or not..... I'm gonna get it for my retouched :D
I don't think us unnatural redheads would freak out about the no washing hair i try to not to wash it as much as i can. but u do spend a lot of time without washing it xD
i just dyed my hair red today (it was red a long time ago) and at first it came out too bright but then i used a darked red and its now perfect. i got the protein filler (at sally's beauty supply) and it really did help! im happy to be back to red!!!!! xD
you should use cholesterol in your hair it really helps get hair more hydrated i recomend it to any one who dyes their hair all you need to do is put it in your hair after you wet it / wash it and put warm tools around your head and keep doing it for a while after just rinse it out :) and also sallys hair dyes like ion and miss clairol o and silk elements conditioner packets work wonders!! your videos are great info thank you :))
You speak so much,I love it:) You sound so funny!Obviously you are keen on helping others, arent you?Very good,I love red hair, you know that irish lighter red,I have always wanted to have that amazing colour:))Unfortunately it is brown(my natural colour) But I will not have it dyed,no way....too many things I have to do with it...I can not ignore it,otherwise it would look gross)
You have amazing sallow complexion,I totally love it!Thumbs up for super white skin!!!!
ok this helps me alot but i dnt really want a red a bright as you it wouldnt fit me i want like a red bt burgandy nt light red like u (which u look gud in it lucky!!) bt were ccan i buy thos bottle of tint i seen like two girls in vid with them.. bt wat store or where??
That's Colorful brand protein filler for those who are wondering. You can buy it at Sally Beauty (and similar stores) or Amazon.

I don't have pale skin.
meadowfrance 8 months ago
It's better to avoid washing your hair everyday. It strips your hair of its natural oils every single time and contributes to it drying out. It doesn't do any good especially when people straighten/curl/blowdry it everyday.
I rarely ever blowdry my hair because of the heat damage and I never straighten or curl it. And I only wash 1-2 times a week and my hair is still healthy after all this time. It's been about two years or so and I'm finally finding a split end, lmao.

I love the color but there has to be a better way :) thanks oh and by the way I now have a bottle of spray bleach to spray my shower evertime i use it
pammyglo1 4 months ago

Thank you!!

that wasn't too bad. I knew a girl once who also dyed her hair completely red and she would only wash it once a week since she had a "normal" hair type :T
crazieecool 10 months ago
For the vegetable based dye, was is it a good thing for you that it lasted long? You said compared to the L'Oreal one, it seemed to wash out way more and it took forever to rinse out, does that mean it lasted longer or something? :)
justicemcrae 10 months ago
I agree with everything you say here! I only wash my hair once or twice a week as well. It's just SO much better for the hair! My hair is dry and coarse and curly and I dye it as well. I probably shampoo only every other shower as well, it helps retain my color as well as moisture.
raeofsunshine17 10 months ago
i only wash my hair 2 times a week also! And a long time ago wen i washed it every other day, it wasnt healthy at all! It was very dry, frizzy, and even tangley. but ever since i started washing it 2 a week its been SO much healthier and it doesnt get greasy either.. :]

instead of a protein filler you can also use additives. But it kind of sucks for those who have to shop at sally's or the grocery store or something for hair dye because that shit really sucks; hair dye from those kind of places almost always sucks and washes out pretty fast.
tehEricar 11 months ago

Loved your video and have subscribed! xx

ok when you do the highlight part first do you have to wash it out before you do the special effects cherry bomb or put it right on top

Thanks for the tips! Didn´t know that cold water could help maintain the color. Gonna try next time i wash my hair! True what you say about not being able to wash your hair every day,my hair turns into pink every time I wash it! Good video!
Eastwick89 11 months ago
Your hair tips really helped. My semi-permanent red dye lasted THREE MONTHS before it began to fade. On top of that, it turned a nice pink and NOT orange! :3 I didn't have to redye it forever and by the time it was a light pink, I wanted a new color anyway. For the record sulfate-free shampoo works pretty well for not stripping color. I can't use something like Hair One. It's too much build up for my hair type! Anyway, onto turquoise:P Thanks Leesha! I WILL be going red again :3

I found that getting my hair colored at a salon-their hair color doesn't last half as long as the stuff you get at the store. I like the Garnier line mostly because their latest line(not sure what its called) has less ammonia and more vegetable(bamboo) components. My hair is the reddest its ever been. I love it but I think Im the only one.
nikkitrueblue 1 year ago
Veggie dyes stain you're hair and are pretty permanent (gets very deep into the hair shaft)--it also makes it harder to color over it, so that is probably why it took so long to wash out.

i love your hair. it's gorgeous. i started dying mine red about a month ago it's not that red but my hair stylist want to take it slow to not damage my hair. i'm trying for the red you have or like Ariana Grande if you know who that is. and less showers that will be hard for me since my hair gets extremely oily. i might go back to brown but i want red cuz it's soooo pretty.

it's been a week and a half, and it's still rinsing out a bit red, and when i shampoo, the suds are still pink >_< so yes, i have that whole, taking forever to rinse out thing.
i had the same problem with blue, and purple.

wow, thanks for the info!

Hooray! ;) If you wash your hair too often it ruins the natural oils in it, causing it to get greasy a lot faster.

hey! my hair's naturally like that too except mine's curly xD
0Tanesha0 1 year ago
so then, which red dye out of all of the ones you have used was the best in your opinion?
and also, would it be better to bleach and then dye or would it be better to just use a developer?
it would REALLY help if you answered this.
PatchedHeart103 1 year ago
@PatchedHeart103 I don't know if it'll help at all since you probably want her reply, but I too have red hair [more neon than this actually.] I used Cherry Bomb from Special Effects by itself over bleached white-blond hair. If you wanted it more toned down or don't want to damage your hair I would put it over medium blond to light brown hair. There are less damaging hair lighteners in the market than straight bleach. Nuclear Red from Special Effects is even more vibrant if you...
ThexDoctorsxLie 1 year ago
@PatchedHeart103 wanted to use it over not whiteish hair and get vibrant effects, I'd try that. The one I used IS semi-permanent, but when I initially dyed it I left it in for 2 1/2 hours [it's vegetable dye... you can leave it in as long as you want] and it takes a while to fade. I ouch up ever 3-5 weeks as needed and use John Frieda shampoo+cond. for red hair
ThexDoctorsxLie 1 year ago
@PatchedHeart103 every 3 days or so and it has worked out well for me. [I am however, considering trying out the Hair One she mentioned...] Best of luck! Sorry for triple comment but I ran out of characters twice :X

ok i recently dyed my hair red n i wash my hair everyday but i was curious do you think if i just rinsed it with warm/cold water do you think the color will last longer?
Alexys2011 1 year ago
@Alexys2011 yes but it will look greasier. Seriously the best thing you can do is try to wash it at least just every other day at most. And, use shampoo designed for colored red hair. (:
ThexDoctorsxLie 1 year ago
@Alexys2011 I have bright red hair and I wash it every day: when you put in conditioner (red hair specified), leave it in for a couple of minutes (I leave it in for 3), and rinse in COLD WATER. It sucks hardcore because the water is usually freezing, but it won't strip colour as badly. My hair fades after about 3 weeks to one month.
Washing your hair every other day is recommended, but my hair gets greasy after one day, so I still do it every day.
