I'm a big VW guy but I've never been aware of the "syncro" what is it exactly?

@DANDthekid the best way to get any info is to  look it up. They are 4 wheel drive busses basically.

Syncro is 4WD system developed by VW. Like Quattro in Audi for example. It's not a model of a car. There was Golf Syncro and Passat Syncro etc

@DANDthekid syncro is the 4wd version of the vw t3. it uses a sort of automatic 4wd so you dont have to gear in the 4wd manually. As soon as the rear wheel starts to slide, then the front drive engages. It also has an extra low speed gear for off road riding and a 100% differential lock thats is engaged with a pneumatic pressure system. Its truly an amazing offroad vehicle...

"Syncro" was the 1st name, Volkswagen used for its 4W driven vehicles, such as this shown Van T3, T4, or the Golf MK2 (called "Golf Country") and MK3. Later (until now), they changed the name for 4WD into "4Motion". FfI, look at Wiki searching "4Motion"

That's my van. I think I had the 2.2 Subaru engine in it at the time of this video. I was showing off as I knew there was no rock in the dirt. When I'm by myself camping in the deserts of CA and NV you know I drive differently. It's painted a Unimog Green w/ orange wheels now. Bill

what vehicle do you swap for parts to make it a 4x4? Where do you get the front drive and transfer case that fits the Volkswagen Bus.  Anybody know --or have a good idea!!!

it is called a Syncro. VW makes them that way. Check out Ebay or just do a search on them.

I know some old dodge vans are 4x4 but I didn't know any express or econolines were 4x4. I still think the old VW syncro's could take a beating better

You can find quite a few vids of Quigley vans here on youtube. Just type in Quigley 4x4 vans. In one vid you see an Express driving up potato salad in Moab, very cool ;-)!
