Hey guys! Just letting you know Lee Ritenour has a sweepstakes contest going on right now. You can win a Yamaha Acoustic Electric Guitar, Monster® Turbine Professional In-Ear Speakers, or even 110 Electric Guitar Strings. The contest is in collaboration with their new album, 6 String Theory. Check it out! Concordmusicgroup(DOT)com/FreeDownload/6stringtheory
What makes the bass solo so great to me is Jimmy stays with a groove while soloing on top of it. He keeps the pulse while he solos on top. There are a lot of bass players who do bass solos like a guitar player. I get bored with them quickly. But not with Jimmy's style. Really great!
Amazing lineage from Carlos to Jeff Porcaro and on to Vinnie. The technique, feel, funk, and taste. Carlos on Gretsch, Vinnie's return to Gretsch, and Jeff's big Gretsch gold hardware kit which I got to see in the Oceanway Studio (1989) in Santa Monica when Peter Erskine was recording in the next room. I'll never forget the grace that exuded from Jeff and Peter on those sessions. I wish I could have been able to see Carlos play. These videos are really great! Thanks for posting them!
Thank you for posting this video. I've not seen this for many years and I just love Jimmy Johnson he is No1. I too play bass and am called Jimmy Johnson but their sadly the similarity ends. gutherzig you are my hero

The bassplayer is Jimmy Johnson, the only one who is able to give a refreshing interpretation of Marcus Miller's original bass lines

Y E S Y ES .........this is what I've been lookin' for. Thanks gutherzig for posting up this RIT Special (formerly available
on only VCR), with Phil Perry on vocals.
The song I would l o v e to find from this show, is Phil Perry singing "Is It YOU".
Any chance that you have that one or know where I could locate it ? It's from this same Ritenour & Friends Special. Been looking since 93'.
