The reason why you put 3 quarts in the trans 1st and then 1 quart in the engine is that you want to get the bands FULL of oil right away. When the engine starts, the trans is spinning. If the bands are dry, it adds lots of wear. The engine and transmission are open to each other. The 3 quarts spills over into the engine pan. I hope this clears up the confusion.
Just like any car without positive traction, only one wheel will turn on any vehicle. The one that spins is the one with the least resistance unless you have traction control. In that case, the brake is applied on the wheel that is spinning. I just posted a new video of this car starting vs a 454 Chevy engine 1st start here on utube. John
