  • Love This Song.........Follow Me @ISlap2DollaHoez

  • that girl played in Love And Basketball! Whats her name again? She's so beautiful :)

  • @MsCloclo22 Sanaa Lathan

  • This was my shit when it first came out!

  • The one thing about her work that stands out is the absence of hate and cynicism, when she would have every reason to let that taint her art. Instead, she is full of humanity and hope and her music remains classic and timeless as a result.

  • this myy shitt

  • People don't even realize how deep this video is....it REALLY is an ode to hip hop.....

  • black music,,,is tha best music!!!!

  • nevermind someone already pointed it out lol

  • This woman is AMAZING! snm!

  • whenever I got lonely or need some advi- what the hell is common wearing

  • @batmanlooksgood you're a fucking idiot.

  • is the movie brown sugar?

  • Most probably won’t read this but I’ll still say it cuz I feel at least 1 person will. I'm a young queer-hop artist originating from Chi. I know there's a lot of artists out there but I feel like my music has a unique style and soul that can help push the voices of the LGBT community. Just need support to do it. If you just take a min I'll make you a believer. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push makes a huge difference. Much love:)

  • @JusJosh90 Why does ur sexual orientation matter wen i comes to making music. Jus produce music that is heart felt and posses meaning #I'm Just Saying

  • @tiff2q Is that a real question? Not being rude but for real? Turn on your radio, turn on your tv, and do the math and ask me if sexual orientation matters again. How many OPENLY LGBT artists do you hear everyday and then how mean hetero artists do you hear every day. White was all that mattered when blacks weren't on the charts and weren't given the same acknowledgement and respect just as LGBT artist, especially of COLOR who are in a white hetero male dominated world so yes, it matters.

  • I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG. Like, for real. It's my favorite.

  • the male version of this is common - i used to love her

  • @CaterTheHater

    h.e.r - hearing every rhyme :)

  • @CaterTheHater H.E.R. :)

  • and by the f---ing way where's the version of this video without those lame ass excerpts from the movie? and with freestyle battle with MC Lyte? why when I tried to posted some dickhead blocked it? It's much better in my subjective objective opinion.

  • Them damn boots lol

  • That piece of equipment @ 1:24 is a Roland R-8 DRUM MACHINE. It has NO "SAMPLING" function.

  • @BeenJamin87 I thought it's some Roland SP series... I own some audio junk but from Roland I have only SB-55

  • @psyho98 Yeah your right. The Roland SP series are the samplers. However in this video Erykah is holding The Roland R-8 when she sings "feels like I sample true love." It bugs me because the R-8 only plays it's own drum sounds in a pattern and it does not allow you to sample. The Roland SP-1200 is the Sampler. You'd think Erykah would have known that. BTW I never knew about the SB-55, it looks pretty cool.

  • 2012 and still listening

  • why does 2,102,184 like this song this song sucks?

  • they don"t make music like this no more ???? its sad

  • My gyal looks like Erykah Badu loool damn Erykah is beautiful

  • That chopped and screwed part is so sickkkk!! :) kind of sound like Anthony Hamilton.

  • Another track that personified Hip Hop almost as good as this one was Common's I Used to Love H.E.R. Only fitting they did this one together.

  • another of my soulfully sister... love her ...whats her origin .. is she entirely african american ...

  • i didnt see the subliminal messages in this video of the evolution of hiphop until now.

  • Tell me you see the Evolution of Hip Hop in this video..........

  • i grew up in the Bronx and listening to this song reminded me of going to the roller skate rink off of 149 st damn this brings me back

  • I remember when they shot this video in my neighborhood, Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Crazy ass day. =]

  • this use to be my ex and I's song, i still love it tho!!

  • well what was the name of that movie that that clip just played at 0:58

  • @GuyMusic11 The movie is called "Brown Sugar" ....

  • @GuyMusic11

I think its Brown Sugar with Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan. not sure bout that particular part at 0.58, but i mean the beginning of this video "when did you fall in love with hip hop" is from that movie....lol anyways Brown Sugar :P

  • what was that movie clip at 0:58

  • @GuyMusic11 BROWN SUGAR!!!!

  • 2.08 I know that feeling hahahaha ;p

  • i wanna get the crochet patterns for the hats she's wearing :)

  • common is a cutie.. and he one of my favorite rappers.. is him and mc lyte =)

  • 1,916,202??Thats it!!?? This should be the most viewed video on YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MzHollywoodJune19

It's because this is NOT the REAL video. Where's the part when she busts out her wack rap, lol?

  • I love how they wrote He Used To Love H.E.R when showing Common

Real Hip Hop heads know what they're referring to.

  • @lilhavin She was really the realest, before she got into show-biz

I did her, not just to say that I did it

But I'm committed, but so many niggaz hit it

That she's just not the same lettin all these groupies do her

I see niggaz slammin her, and takin her to the sewer

But I'ma take her back hopin that the shit stop

Cause who I'm talkin bout y'all is hip-hop

  • Mute the video to understand the story.

The story is she (hip-hop) started with ambitious youngsters; underground. She exploded on the streets, everyone loved her. She started making money, hollywood notices her. (1:10). When hip-hop started to make big money, the industry, symbolized by the "crew", pressures her to contract. Hip-hop likes the fame. The one eye symbolism starts from there on out into the future. Pretty much a story of hip-hop selling out. =(

  • @MsDbone90

    wow, thank you!

  • @MsDbone90 Yeah, this is one way to view it. Miss Badu is deep though, so there are several messages she is relaying in this video.

  • @nubian05girl my ebony queen

  • @MsDbone90 sounds like glitter to me

  • @MsDbone90 But in the end of the vid, when the kids meet her, she's stuck in the school bus. That most probs symbolises that she(hi-hop) now hangs in the balance, at the mercy of the new generation of kids. Which, by the looks of today's so called Hip-Hop, have completely transformed her for the worst! :(.

  • @oo77i think about kid cudi and drake I think hip hop is evolving again to express different sides of human emotions

  • @MsDbone90 ok ty captain obvious

  • I LOVE IS MY LIVE

    i love A

    i love hip hop

  • if you pay attention at 2:45 she is goin to sign a record contract then the black guy says not to do it. oh yea and the song is obviously about hiphop not some guy she loves

  • @dwaynekeyesanthings Exactly. lol. I just wrote a lil paragraph about it.

  • But it was "our" fault because we thought we needed the money... or so we thought? We sold out ... AGAIN ...same story ... it's like a broken record ... is there any hope for the black race ... when will we stop allowing ourselves to be victimized? when will we start becoming self-reliant? When will we stop hating oruselves? When will we wake up? Props to Spike Lee and Lawrence Fishburn for bringing this up in School Daze (Google Search or YouTube Search if you are unfamiliar).

  • now you got white kidz sayin' nigga this nigga that...all kinds of dumb stuff...rap was our way to express ourselves...to break down knowledge...to challenge the injustice of the world against the black race...it was also about fun .. and it was close to the streets. Looks like the real rap will stay underground ... in other words it will stay on the streets where it orginally came from ... and may never resurface again.

  • @luckerkd Maybe one day things will come full circle and it won't be all about the almighty dollar. Once Record Companies realized that they could make a profit off of it, that was it.

  • I will never DJ rap music at an all white club if black folks can't get in.

  • Erykah is very insightful in this video ... especially at the end...when she is the stereotypical hip hop DJ wit' the gold teeth (nice touch) providing the all white audience with the stereotype. Basically ... it's really funny what happened to rap when white folks ran wit' it ... it started out as our music ... but now it's their music .. and not ours to share ... I guess it struck me when I heard my music ... headed towards the door... and found out that "we" weren't invited.

  • @luckerkd Amen, its just like what mos def says in his song rock and roll off black on both sides,We've BEEN HERE FOREVER!

They just ain't let you know...Guess that's just the way shit goes

You steal my clothes and try to say they yo's (yes they do)

Cause it's a show filled with pimps and hoes

Tryin to take everything that you made or control (there they go)...

  • Dam I'm 17 n I remember being a lil nigga watchin dis on brown sugarvdvd bonuses but the mc lute part made me me feel like crying or sum shit miss the old hip hop era smh

  • i miss the 80sss

  • @80z90zhouzemuzicgrl these are the 90s homeboy

  • @TheSrdboyz im not ur homeboy and i still miss the 80s and i know this was the 90s..

  • Dick James sodomized her orrifices with crusty loaves of bread and rolled up five dollar bills, lyrically!

  • cool girl!! sweet voice!!

  • Years later and this is STILL such a HOT JAM!!! d(-_-)b

  • @CreativeFlair cuz this is real music

  • They are some extract from Brown sugar movie isn't it??

  • they dont need to slow the song down like that that was horrible

  • She had the prettiest eyes. lol

  • @xaxlxpxhxaxbxextx his name is taye diggs he played in a movie called the wood with omar epps I know cause im black.

  • LMFAO, crazy legs representing hahahahahahhaha. And Common in the house reppin for Chi-Town.

  • LMFAO, crazy legs representing hahahahahahhaha.
