  • I have to keep coming back to this video, he's amazing! I wish he would grace the US soil once again with his talented voice and acting. We miss him. I had to go to England just to see him in Les Miz.

  • His voice touches my soul...

  • wow~ there's English lyrics of this musical already.... but why the production still not exist....

  • and this here is my new goal, it may take a while.

  • Drew looks very sick... But he can sing!

  • I am unbelievably jealous of this man. I'm a musical theatre student and a tenor and I would LOVE to be able to have the vocal technique and control Drew has. to be able to just launch in to B flats and C's like that is just phenomenal

  • when is this musical voming to the USA, and where can i get the sheet music to this musical

  • i HAVE to find the sheet music for this song!!!

  • AMAZING singer! Wow, I'm starting to like Drew more and more!

Seriously, guys, an overtone has to be OVER the sung note, not UNDER. And it doesn't sound like that, it has a lightly more whistle-y quality. Do a tiny bit more research. Not to mention the vibrato of the overtone and the fundamental tone don't match up the very first moment, so it sounds like the other singer adjusts to match his vibrato.

That last note was utter perfection! (as was all the rest, but you know what I mean)

  • FUCK HE'S SO GOOD 0_0

Was he the original Quasimodo in Berlin? I don't remember...

  • @DragonHeart06 Yes, he was Quasimodo...

  • @DragonHeart06 yes, he was, and hopefully the brodway one as well

  • I love it!

  • The fact that Drew can do overtone totally proves he's amazing. Man, I can't stop replaying that last note. xD.

  • I thought Seth was just harmonizing with him.

  • He kind of sounds like Anthony Rapp.

I've heard of people who've said that IF DGVND comes to the US, Anthony Rapp would be Quasi.

  • Meh Sarich if he's available.

  • i cant stop watching this now O.o

  • Same here, this has got to be one of my favourite vocal performances ever. And it's under a minute long too, Drew sure makes it look easy.

  • word.... :P

  • It's in eloquent of me and crass but all I can think is UNF UNF UNF. Thanks for posting. I remember listening to that interview when it first came out.

  • Overtone! SICKO! :D

  • THAT OVERTONE!!!!!

  • holy shit! overtone!

  • drew sarich rocks my socks.

  • This guy's great. I want an English soundtrack of this musical like right now.

  • Can someone tell me what exactly an overtone is? He seems to be singing two notes at once, is that possible and if so, how exactly?

  • overtone, also called harmonic singing, occurs when the singer amplifies voluntarily two overtones in the sequence available given the fundamental tone he/she is singing.

  • jesus christ

    that was a fuckin overtone

    the man is incredible

  • was that a fucking overtone on that high c?

    (him singing two notes)

    fuck

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was an overtone. I doubt it was intentional though...

  • who wrote this - its obviously not in the movie, right? I mean, was it originally in the German production?

  • No, it's not in the movie, as you said. This kind of song shows the darker side of Hugo's story and Disney can't market stuff like this to little kids. That is part of why the stage show didn't run in the US (I think); too dark and real to be family friendly. The German show was a hybrid of songs from the movie and new songs that were written for the show. I think, from the start of the stage production, they wrote the lyrics in both German and English to leave it open to showing in both arenas.

  • This is one of the new songs that were written specifically for the stage. Music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. This is just the last bit of the song; the entirity of this song is a dialouge between Quasi and the gargoyles, who are more like parts of Quasi's conscience in the stage production. It occurs toward the end of the show after Quasimodo realizes that he is not going to get his happily ever after and pulls away into himself, embittered.

  • Google "Der Glockner Von Notre Dame" for more complete info on the show. There is one site that is particularly good that has extensive info about the show including lyrics in both English and German.

  • OMG thats so insane, I always thought if they ever did a musical version, they should make it a lot darker, stay more true to Hugo's ending and have the gargoyles be like Guasimodo's insanity, ya know? or his isolation

  • and I assume Clopin dies in this verison? just curious.^^ sicne he dies in the book.*sad sigh*

  • I actually don't think that he does. They didn't make it totally true to the book. Probably because the audience would be so depressed after seeing the show that they would want to kill themselves and everyone around them.

  • lol, you have a point.^^

  • Clopin is the narrator. He doesn't die, but he does get really messed up. He has a patch over one eye and a fake leg. Then when they flashback, he's all young and cute again.

  • oh ok cool! thank you for the info!^^

  • No problem. Someone actually uploaded videos from the musical with English subtitles. Give a look around for them, they're really good.

  • thank you! i sure will!^^

  • That last note was a freakin' high C! Are you kiddin' me, non-opera male singers just don't hit those kind of notes! He's so talented!

  • WEll i actually beg to differ with you on that statement because myself as well as a few of my fellow vocal major friends can sing that. lol.

  • Wow!!! This is soo amazing!!! Yeah, seriously, if any knows where the sheet music is, please let me know!! I would love to audition with this piece :)

  • ??¿¿??¡¡ you can sing this?

  • actually, I would want the music for my friend, he has an amazing mix belt, and this would be perfect for his voice.

  • How can I get the notes for piano ????

  • Comment removed

  • He's the best Quasimodo I've ever heard :D I love him so much! He's not only good in singing but also in acting...he's such a telentet boy...ahrgs!!! HUGS

  • Who joins in with him at the end?

  • No one.

  • Are you sure? I could swear someone starts singing with him on that last note.

  • There IS someone there at the end doing harmony on the last note. As there is no one else on the show, as far as I can tell, it must be the host, Seth. It sounds a little like him too, although it's hard to tell by just one note.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Carolee Carmello... she appeared the same night as Drew on Chatterbox

  • It was actually no one else singing with him, it's an overtone on the final note, which is when you sing one note and it resonates to another frequency and you can hear a second harmony over the note. It's extremely hard to do.

  • omg, he has to do this on broadway, its not even funny

  • Does anyone know where i can find the sheet music to this??? Its ok if its in german cus i just want to do this part for an audition. Thanks!

  • The show was written in English first, and then translated to German; I have the Sheet Music to the entire show in PDF format. Message me with your e-mail address and I'll be HAPPY to send it to you, it's absolutely spectacular.

  • @IcicleM Do you still have the sheet music to this in PDF?

  • This is so great! Drew sings this really well, and I love that it's in English!

But probably, that's the only English version of any part of any of the new songs we'll hear until they make an English version, if TPTB decide to be not cruel.

  • Just INCREDIBLE!

Why won't they bring Hunchback to Broadway?!

  • One of the greatest talents in theatre right now.

  • Lyrics:

And now I'm on my own

Never again to wonder what's out there

    Let it remain unknown

    And my one human eye

    Will evermore be dry

    Until the day I die

    As if I

    Were made of stone!

  • such a good voice! love it.. he can reallay sing. like when he holds those notes. wow o_o

  • YA! that was good! i love when he played Javert! so awsome!!! woo he rox.

  • Oh, Drew, you are amazing.

  • An English version! It's a pity this show will probably never see Broadway. It's such a vast improvement on the film.

  • sarich es un puto crack

  • What makes you say that Drew is a crack whore? I doubt any crack whore can sing like that ;)

  • xDDDDD I thing you did not understand... Here in Spain when someone is called "Puto crack" it means he is amazing, awesome... something like that. This person just wanted to show how he admire Drew Sarich ;)

  • I've been to spain a couple of times and I've never heard that. My Spanish speaking boyfriend hasn't heard of that also. Whatever, no matter.

  • Anyway we could say that expression is new, first time I heard it was about year 2004... I don't remember exactly when... Well, now you can say you've learned something from spain today :P

    :D Bye!

  • Look bro, puto crack is good.... dont want to believe.... well come to argentina, or to spain or take a fucking trip and start believing

  • I've never heard him sing this is English. He always blows me away. LesMis was amayzing. Go Drew!

  • and this is what he would look like during....ehem. yeah. about that. oh snap. mufasa. out.

  • Wow, that song is beautiful and Drew is just incredible. I can't get enoiugh of this clip.
