  • Ugh, where the heck did my other comment go?? Well... I was going to ask you when the school year ended in Japan. April seems like such an odd time to start the school year!

  • It finishes in March. There's about 2 weeks off between the years (haru yasumi, spring vacation). 2 weeks off over New Year, and about 5 or 6 weeks off in August (natsu yasumi, summer vacation). Yeah, I wonder why the year starts in April ... since the system is modelled on the US one, it would make sense to start at the same time.

  • School starts in September in the US right? In NZ the year goes from February to December which makes the most sense to me! But I guess that's just cause it's what I'm used to.

  • It depends on the school, actually. Some start beginning of August, some start end of August, and most universities start in September. Some schools never "end" and go the entire year. I don't get why we start in the fall and end in the summer, but honestly, if I had to be in school when it was 100 degrees out, I wouldn't learn a thing! ;)

  • I know lots of etiquette(sp?!) that is pretty useless... but my mom was a real stickler! I feel you about the snow clearning. While it STILL hasn't snowed here, yet, I remember last year; at first it was great fun, but after awhile I hated it.
