Ugh, where the heck did my other comment go?? Well... I was going to ask you when the school year ended in Japan. April seems like such an odd time to start the school year!
It finishes in March. There's about 2 weeks off between the years (haru yasumi, spring vacation). 2 weeks off over New Year, and about 5 or 6 weeks off in August (natsu yasumi, summer vacation). Yeah, I wonder why the year starts in April ... since the system is modelled on the US one, it would make sense to start at the same time.
School starts in September in the US right? In NZ the year goes from February to December which makes the most sense to me! But I guess that's just cause it's what I'm used to.
It depends on the school, actually. Some start beginning of August, some start end of August, and most universities start in September. Some schools never "end" and go the entire year. I don't get why we start in the fall and end in the summer, but honestly, if I had to be in school when it was 100 degrees out, I wouldn't learn a thing! ;)
I know lots of etiquette(sp?!) that is pretty useless... but my mom was a real stickler! I feel you about the snow clearning. While it STILL hasn't snowed here, yet, I remember last year; at first it was great fun, but after awhile I hated it.
