theres a reason why these functions are never mentioned, its because it is completely beside the point, its a video camera, meant for video taping, and the photofunction is for whenever you dont have ur photo camera with you, if you want to make decent quality photos, just use ur fucking photocamera!

This is a great camera if you know how to use it. Just look at the footage posted by other youtube users.

And on top of that the Canon HF S10 doesn't work very well as an automotive jackstand either. Seriously, If I'm looking for high quality still photos, why would I use a $1K video camera instead of a $300 still camera?

Regarding the Sony CX520: it contains neither manual exposure (aperture/shutter priority) and NO MIC INPUT JACK,

The authors comment that the Canon does't work with Final Cut is absolutely incorrect.

This review should be specifically titled "canon hf s10 FRAME CAPTURE review". You are not reviewing the camera as whole but nit picking about a feature most people who buy it for VIDEO would not be concerned about. If still images are your thing buy a digital STILL camera.

I mention several things other reviews dont tell you! If the photo from video is so bad it must be an inferior video signal. I just tested Sony CX520 which has no such problem at 16 mbps!

It doesn't necessarily mean that. I'm not trying to defend Canon on this as I am about to buy a Hi Def camcorder soon and I'm on the fence about certain things between Canon and Sony. I think a Frame grab with a NLE such as Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere from both Camcorders would be more representative of actual video quality. The in camera capture simply may be inferior on the Canon compared to the Sony. I don't think anyone should assume things based on an in camera frame grab. Just a thought.

Look this is one of the worstest reviews a have ever seen,fist of all, most of the review you talk about photos, in fact this a real new platform of hd broadcast quality camcorder into a tiny case. the footage of this camera can be used with imovie sony vegas final cut express and pro adobe premiere hmm many more.
