try to briefly explain my progression .. but first let me day there many ways to approach doing pastel's and no two people are alike some quote un quote pro's may say my style is totally wrong but it's the end result that counts to me.
first of all your works of art are really inspiring. i am doing charcoal portraits as i can find free times from lessons of university. but soon it will be over hopefully. what ever i made a few trial to dive into dust pastel works but i just made a mess. what is your secret how can you smoothly mix the color at the very beginning. i mean you use purple and blue which are totally far from the color of human skin. sorry for long comment. :(
so i use reds and blues in the shadow areas and then go over that with the skin tone so as you look at the skin you see variations of color under the skin plus were'r all made from dirt anyway so i tend to use alot of earth colors in the skin greens ,blues red and so forth.
but thats my approach.
feel fre to contact me the video is kinda old and the number is wrong if you go to my website the new number is there.
most portrait artist start dark to light i go light to dark.
as far as skin i use the same colors on black or white people just different degrees... see black people are not just brown as white people are not just pink.
how u are wonderful!!!!!!!
