I missed this vid...it didn't appear in my sub box and I tend to not look anymore. You MUST Skype me when you put out a new vid!
Funny thing though. I was just wondering how these trees were doing (I have a history with them you know) and if they were alright just yesterday. Today I looked to see if I'd missed any of your vids and...voila! Now I know.
I wondered when you bought them if they were meant for that climate and altitude. How are the others doing?
First off...I must apologise right now for not being able to suggest for your poor tree...I'm NOT green fingered...although I think Kermit was?!?!?!...Reminds me of a joke...no...no...never mind!......You're a brill vid maker, Caylyn...all those little...wotever the hell they're called throughout...and...those freaky eyes at the end again......stop it, will you!!?!x
colorful, creative, and a little scarry. Music and comments backed up in writing were informative. Been a long time since I visited, happy to see you are up and about with the good stuff. HarOLD
@megalisstudio Thanks, Tom! A bit over dramatic, but it was fun! I had to look up Laurie Anderson! I see she's been around a LONG time! Makes me wonder where I've been. Time to get out more I see...:-)
This video was so dramatic, I almost forgot you were looking to find help for you plums! Sadly, I can't say what ails your poor tree! I did, however, enjoy the music!
@VegasStrati Why do something simple when you can complicate things adding a bit of drama where you can?? LOL
I have learned a few things about it and one really important thing! The important, "good to know" thing is that it's not a plum tree! It's a nectarine tree...ROFL!! The tags for the plum tree and the nectarine tree were switched so, that is an important part of figuring things out. I'm hearing that it's wind damage! I'll be moving ALL 4 of the fruit trees in the fall. :-)
@OceanTownPictures LOL!! I'm glad I was able to keep your attention with the drama...lol What I have found out is, first off, it's a nectarine tree, NOT a plum tree! ROFL!!! I suck at this "grow your own food" bit, don't I?? Also, I hear it's wind damage, so I'll be moving all the trees this fall.
Good to see you around again! I'm missing the coffee talks...:-) xoxoxox
@GreatGig1 hahahaha I thought it wasn't a plum tree (we had one once) but I assumed there were different kinds! Time to bring out the bleach for our hair Caylyn!
Hi Caylz! I recall your garden dramas from last year. Although by trade I am a gardener, I must say Fruit is my weakest area. However, I can but make some suggestions. I notice the tree is in a pot. Pots dry out so easy, it may be drying out at a critical stage in spring or late winter without you knowing, causing your problem. If possible, plant it in the ground (in a sheltered spot), feed it a fruit tree specific fertilizer, burn its leaf litter & water it well for 6 months after re-planting.
From what I'm hearing around here, it's wind damage, so I guess I will be moving them for next year. Living in a high fire area, it's illegal to burn leaves, but I will get them out of here just it case! I will be planting the trees in the ground come fall. I didn't want to just yet since I was hoping to move from here and take them with me, but those plans aren't happening anytime soon, so in the ground they go in the fall. xoxoxo
@moomay1949 Yes, it could be a disease, but when I look at the pictures of the fruit tree diseases, it doesn't look the same. I'm thinking at this point, it could be wind damage! I'm looking around here to see if there is someone that knows and can take a look at it. I'll report back with any and all finding...:-)
@fehquig I hope not, Andy! At this point I'm leaning towards the idea of wind damage. When I see pictures of wind damage, that is what my tree looks like. Maybe a combo of a couple of things, wind and a disease?? I'm thinking wind is a big culprit here...:-)
@spiderfairy2011 I don't know of any commandments about not eating fruit! I remember something about God telling Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge, which was an apple tree. I'm working on getting my tree well to eat from next season! :-)
@GreatGig1 Well who wrote the bible? I don't know. That bit was by Genisis wasn't it? who is Genisis? Anyway I don't eat fruit unless I'm ill and I need the vitimen C. I don't like plums. What do men call their plums? It puts me off anyway.
@lazmalt Do you spray your trees when they are dormant? I don't and I hear that is a big trick to making things work out come the spring! I'm learning lots of things about fruit trees from this video! Learning about soil, wind damage, fungus, spraying, what to spray when they have leaves, what to do before they go dormant for the winter, etc. I'm thinking time to just buy at the farmer's market...ROFL!! xoxoxo
@lazmalt Thanks, Laz! I did! Seeing lots of things but looking at the pictures doesn't look quite the same. I'm thinking it just might be time to call in the experts...LOL
@Tobie2 Got it! Thanks! That's a whole different issue, cracking, that I'm happy to report I don't have...yet...and hope to NOT have anytime soon! LOL
@Tobie2 LOL! See...I can't just do a quick little video! Oh noooooooo! It has to be dramatic and long to suck all the time I can out of editing fun...ROFL!!
Someone makes a compelling argument that it's a nectarine and not a plum saying it has nectarine leaves and nectarine fruit :) (Meaning it would be Peach Leaf Curl.) If you bought it from a hardware or department store they often label things wrong.
He thinks it may be wind damage on the fruit (but says the editing hinders the ID) and asked if you were high desert. If it is wind damage the fruit should be fine.
@Myk63 Well...nectarine it is then...LOL It's possible it's wind damage too because, yes, high desert...and we get hit with some whipping winds...they were some cold ones too! I'll keep an eye out with what's happening with them and I'll be sure to keep you informed! Thanks for the help! I guess it's just a matter of figuring out exactly what it is and go from there. I just might have to go down off this mountain and get help. Where is Lassie and Timmy when you need them?? ha!
@GreatGig1 This was from the guy in high TX desert that grows most of his trees in a greenhouse.
Now that he mentioned it the leaves do look too thick to be plums, and the curly leaves would be peach leaf curl. I'll try to remember to show my plum leaves next time I make a garden video.
@Myk63 Maybe the tags got mixed up on my trees and the plum tree is what I thought the nectarine tree is and visa versa! Very possible since we are talking about me here...hahaha! I'm thinking I should do another video and show all four trees just to make sure all is going well with them. I'm also thinking I might move them this fall and plant them out of the wind path. They might not get as much sun though, so I guess it's final, I need to move! LOL
@GreatGig1 Don't move to the midwest or east or you'll discover bugs and disease galore. You just need a giant greenhouse to keep the birds out, cut the wind and control the heat :)
@Myk63 I would need to move to have more space for that giant greenhouse! Or better yet, give up on my "farming days" and just keep buying my goods from the farmer's market...hahaha!
@GreatGig1 Just wait until you taste real tree ripened fruit fresh off the tree. I still remember my 2 plums (2 trees = $24 for 2 plums :) ) and that was longer than 10 years ago.
@twish1999 Well, I'm hearing I know way less than I thought I did! That's not a plum tree it's a nectarine tree...hahahaha I'm beginning to think I need to stop all this "farming" I'm trying to do around here and stick to editing...ha! xoxoxo
You have a zombie infestation. I think the Discovery Channel is filming a documentary on the common desert zombie. You should submit this video to them, it's great! Only you could make a plum tree kind of scary :-)
@Perroquet51 Ahahahaha!! Well...now we know where the Zombies are! On my way to check out the Discovery Channel. Hey...do you think they will notice that my kinda scary plum tree is actually a nectarine tree?? ROFL!!Time to hang up my farming ideas and stick to things I know, like sleeping, watching videos, having fun editing, and baking...hahaha! xoxoxoxo
Look up Peach Leaf Curl and Plum Pocket, see if the pictures match.
Do you do any dormant sprays (Kocide or Bordeaux mix)? If not and that's what it is that should take care of it.
If you're not against chemical sprays I don't see Plum Pocket listed on Immunox (not the Plus, read the label before buying) I bet it would take care of it with an early spray next year. It's systemic so it needs leaves to work. If you have time before harvest a spray now may save any good fruit.
@Myk63 I looked that up, and no, the pics don't really match. No, I haven't sprayed them at anytime. I did just spray some grape kool aid as I see the birds are starting to hang around on the fences now and it's war for the fruit this year...LOL I would rather not spray with chemicals if I can help it, but if that is what it will take to save the tree this year for next year, then I will do it! :-)
we have a planting nursery around us... I was just wondering if you had like a sunshine nursery or something where there would be people that would know
@sunsetlover I might have to take a branch or leaf or some part of the tree somewhere up around here. Thanks for the ideas! There has to be SOMEONE around here that knows, right?? I can't be the only person in the desert with fruit trees am I?? Can't be! :-)
I think it's sunburn going by what sunburned apples look like. If it's crusty that's what I'd say. If it's moldy brown or black rot, but I think you're too dry for that.
I'll post this on the orchard forum and pass any answers back if they can't reply themselves.
The wrinkly leaves look pretty par for the course where things grow too fast.
Spank your camera for focusing on the ground when there's a bunch of stuff in front of it :)
@Myk63 Hmmmm....sunburn! That's interesting! I don't think it's rot since it's not "moldy", but what do I know?
I noticed my cam was doing that! BAD camera! I was going to take some still photos, but got my camera out and the battery was dead...and I couldn't find the charger! Yeah...loads of issues over here with me...LOL
Thanks for posting it to the orchard forum! I'll be looking forward to hearing what they think it might be and what the "cure" is...:-)
@TheKenAlanShow hahaha! I was wondering when that was going to come to the comments...:-) No, I didn't prune it and I have to wait now with it having it's fruit. I think I need to wait until late fall to prune now, or is that the apricots? I'm so confused...LOL
@papercuts777 I don't mind sharing SOME of the fruits of my trees with those little feathered friends, but they were greedy little buggers! They didn't leave not a piece of fruit untouched from their masacre! That started changing my view of those feathered friends, turning them into feathered enemies! LOL
@TheBorgLives Thanks, Larry! Hmmmm...a soil condition! I never thought of that...but then again, I'm new at this food growing thing. My idea of growing things is put it in dirt and water, then cross my fingers and wait for something to grow. Maybe that is why I live with dirt and rocks?? LOL
@RobWillieJesse Blight?? Say it isn't so!! LOL I hope I can figure it out soon and save the poor thing! Being the second year of this, I'm thinking the tree is hardy to have lived through another season of whatever it is, so I just might be able to sae it! Fingers crossed!!
@papercuts777 This tree did have the same problem last year, but I didn't show it. My video on the two fruit trees, the white peach and apricot trees, had the masacre from the birds and I didn't get ANY fruit! Greedy little birds they are...LOL I'm hoping this year with the idea of grape kool aid that I will be able to get some fruit from those trees. My nectarine tree is giving fruit this year too. I'm thinking plums are not going to make it this year either. :-( Chemtrails...hmmmm...
You can cover all the possible issues by increasing the nitrogen content of the soil (soon as you are able), pruning affected areas as much as possible (only once it has finished fruiting regardless of whether the fruit is usable or not) & applying lime sulphur in a dormant spray, well before buds break next spring. This tree looks very much like it can be saved. Don’t give up on it yet :)
@taniwhasound Thank you so much for info! How do I increase the nitrogen content? Fertilizer? I don't think the plums will be able to be eaten this year, again, but I'll ne looking forward to next year! I did get a LOT more fruit on the tree this year along with more leaves! I'm thinking this tree is a hardy one being that it survived this problem from last year! I'll try your suggestions and see if that helps! *fingers crossed* :-)
@GreatGig1 Any organic material that you may have like mulch, compost or anything with worms and yes mixed with fertilizer’s that contain some nitrogen (hesitating to offer brands as living in Australia which is no use to you in terms of shopping.) But fruit trees do love seaweed based fertilizers. It looks like it may be nitrogen deficient which has opened the door for fungus or bacteria so if you improve its soil this year then it can have a good year next year after pruning and treatment :)
@taniwhasound I'm hearing it's not a plum tree but it's a nectarine tree...hahaha! I will be checking around to see what I can do to help it and get it ready for next year! I'm thinking I might need to move it this fall. It was brought to my attention that it could be wind damage which is possible since there have been wicked cold winds that just might have a hand in damaging things. But, I will also do the nitrogen for the soil as it's never been done! Thank you again for the help!
@GreatGig1 I tried to look at the fruit again…but I am unsure…it could be a nectarine tree. Anyway, it is definitely healthy enough to be saved. If collectively you get enough help to save the tree then one day you might tell your racoon story :)
@LeSaMilano I haven't seen any aphids, but could be I bought the tree with the issue a couple of years ago. I just hope what ever it has, it doesn't pass it onto the white peach, the apricot, and the nectarine trees!!
Ahahaha...yeah...it's all about finding SOMETHING to edit!! Wait until you see the one where my tomato plant fell in love with the cactus and won't go outside now...true story, just trying to work out the video details...LOL xoxoxo
That was nightmare! Luckily I've never had such troubles with my plums but when I had fruit trees I had a couple of bad seasons then suddenly they took off and produced perfect fuit.
I am sure if you came over to a recording of Gardener's Question Time on Radio 4 they would solve it for you! xx
@MrRandomWritings Lucky you! Maybe things will work out with that tree soon! It just might be worth the trip for the Gardener's Question Time. I'd have to plan it around the Cigar Box Guitar show! Two birds, one stone kinda thing..:-) xx
@sunsetlover Thanks for the idea! If no one recognizes the problem and has the "cure", I'll do that! I don't think too many people grow fruit here in the desert, so I might have to look a bit to find someone here that might know! The challenges of living in the middle of dirt and rocks...LOL
@blackturtleshow I was hoping it was just a little "phase" last year. But seeing it again this year, it's no phase...LOL Thanks for the luck! I'll need it...:-)
@CountryComesToTown Good idea! Thanks Jim!! If all else fails, I will go there. My county office is a little over an hour away, so I'll have to plan a day trip...LOL
Wow - that sucks. It looks like a fungus and looking up purple spots on plum tree leaves also leads to fungus but I'm clueless. I hope a gardening expert answers. It was a fun video in spite of the reason for it. :( I have one tiny tomato - about the size of my little fingernail. But it's a start.
@thizizliz I guess a fungus can live for several seasons! I'm hoping someone will know too and have an easy cure for the poor thing!
I have 4 tomatoes and lots of blooms (on the inside one that doesn't want to leave the cactus...LOL!) I'm waiting for them to get big. The two plants outside died with the cold wind that whipped through. Looks like they are getting some new leaves again though. Fingers crossed! :-) How are your strawberries doing?
@GreatGig1 Ooh, I've eaten them twice now. Not a lot but they are coming and the plants look stronger all the time. I have lots of blossoms on the tomatoes and one carrot seed sprouted! LOL - a couple of cilantro seeds and I think maybe a basil also sprouted. It's so fun because it's been years since I tried. They are all in pots to keep things simple. I'll be wishing your tomato plants good health! :)
@GreatGig1 Just barely more than two strawberries! LOL, the first time it was maybe two berries, the next 8 and today 1. I'd rather the plants took root better first - they are everbearing so should provide fruit all season. Well, so far, I see 1 carrot! Maybe one basil or two, 3 or 4 cilantro and the one tomato plant. I do have two green onions left in the front bed. So I could almost make salsa, right?
@thizizliz LOL...well, that's two more than I have...:-) I'll be looking forward to seeing what all you get! Hmmm...a YouTube co-op. I get one strawberry from you and you get one apricot from me...that's a start...LOL
I missed this vid...it didn't appear in my sub box and I tend to not look anymore. You MUST Skype me when you put out a new vid!

I can't help...But, that sure was dramatic! ;-)

@hallbe LOL...well...it's all about overkill (editing) for me...hahaha! Thanks for dropping by Ben! :-)

@GreatGig1 That's what make you so enjoyable!!!

I'm plum out of ideas, did you try pruning it?
TheKenAlanShow 9 months ago
@TheKenAlanShow hahaha! I was wondering when that was going to come to the comments...:-) No, I didn't prune it and I have to wait now with it having it's fruit. I think I need to wait until late fall to prune now, or is that the apricots? I'm so confused...LOL
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@papercuts777 I don't mind sharing SOME of the fruits of my trees with those little feathered friends, but they were greedy little buggers! They didn't leave not a piece of fruit untouched from their masacre! That started changing my view of those feathered friends, turning them into feathered enemies! LOL
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@TheBorgLives Thanks, Larry! Hmmmm...a soil condition! I never thought of that...but then again, I'm new at this food growing thing. My idea of growing things is put it in dirt and water, then cross my fingers and wait for something to grow. Maybe that is why I live with dirt and rocks?? LOL
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@RobWillieJesse Blight?? Say it isn't so!! LOL I hope I can figure it out soon and save the poor thing! Being the second year of this, I'm thinking the tree is hardy to have lived through another season of whatever it is, so I just might be able to sae it! Fingers crossed!!
Good to see you! I hope all is well!! :-) xoxoxo
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@papercuts777 This tree did have the same problem last year, but I didn't show it. My video on the two fruit trees, the white peach and apricot trees, had the masacre from the birds and I didn't get ANY fruit! Greedy little birds they are...LOL I'm hoping this year with the idea of grape kool aid that I will be able to get some fruit from those trees. My nectarine tree is giving fruit this year too. I'm thinking plums are not going to make it this year either. :-( Chemtrails...hmmmm...
GreatGig1 9 months ago
You can cover all the possible issues by increasing the nitrogen content of the soil (soon as you are able), pruning affected areas as much as possible (only once it has finished fruiting regardless of whether the fruit is usable or not) & applying lime sulphur in a dormant spray, well before buds break next spring. This tree looks very much like it can be saved. Don’t give up on it yet :)
taniwhasound 9 months ago
@taniwhasound Thank you so much for info! How do I increase the nitrogen content? Fertilizer? I don't think the plums will be able to be eaten this year, again, but I'll ne looking forward to next year! I did get a LOT more fruit on the tree this year along with more leaves! I'm thinking this tree is a hardy one being that it survived this problem from last year! I'll try your suggestions and see if that helps! *fingers crossed* :-)
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@GreatGig1 Any organic material that you may have like mulch, compost or anything with worms and yes mixed with fertilizer’s that contain some nitrogen (hesitating to offer brands as living in Australia which is no use to you in terms of shopping.) But fruit trees do love seaweed based fertilizers. It looks like it may be nitrogen deficient which has opened the door for fungus or bacteria so if you improve its soil this year then it can have a good year next year after pruning and treatment :)
taniwhasound 9 months ago
@taniwhasound I'm hearing it's not a plum tree but it's a nectarine tree...hahaha! I will be checking around to see what I can do to help it and get it ready for next year! I'm thinking I might need to move it this fall. It was brought to my attention that it could be wind damage which is possible since there have been wicked cold winds that just might have a hand in damaging things. But, I will also do the nitrogen for the soil as it's never been done! Thank you again for the help!
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@GreatGig1 I tried to look at the fruit again…but I am unsure…it could be a nectarine tree. Anyway, it is definitely healthy enough to be saved. If collectively you get enough help to save the tree then one day you might tell your racoon story :)

I think there's a fungus among us! Actually I think it might be a plum virus, probably transmitted by aphids - Your poor plums got the pox!
that has to be the most elaborate garden plum video ever! some cool editing tricks in there - we will use any excuse to edit! LOL
LeSaMilano 9 months ago
@LeSaMilano I haven't seen any aphids, but could be I bought the tree with the issue a couple of years ago. I just hope what ever it has, it doesn't pass it onto the white peach, the apricot, and the nectarine trees!!
Ahahaha...yeah...it's all about finding SOMETHING to edit!! Wait until you see the one where my tomato plant fell in love with the cactus and won't go outside now...true story, just trying to work out the video details...LOL xoxoxo
GreatGig1 9 months ago
That was nightmare! Luckily I've never had such troubles with my plums but when I had fruit trees I had a couple of bad seasons then suddenly they took off and produced perfect fuit.
I am sure if you came over to a recording of Gardener's Question Time on Radio 4 they would solve it for you! xx
MrRandomWritings 9 months ago
@MrRandomWritings Lucky you! Maybe things will work out with that tree soon! It just might be worth the trip for the Gardener's Question Time. I'd have to plan it around the Cigar Box Guitar show! Two birds, one stone kinda thing..:-) xx
GreatGig1 9 months ago
I would take a full branch down to a local gardner and see what they say... we did that and it helped our peach tree
sunsetlover 9 months ago
@sunsetlover Thanks for the idea! If no one recognizes the problem and has the "cure", I'll do that! I don't think too many people grow fruit here in the desert, so I might have to look a bit to find someone here that might know! The challenges of living in the middle of dirt and rocks...LOL
GreatGig1 9 months ago
I don't know, but I hope you find the solution to the problem! Good luck!
blackturtleshow 9 months ago
@blackturtleshow I was hoping it was just a little "phase" last year. But seeing it again this year, it's no phase...LOL Thanks for the luck! I'll need it...:-)
GreatGig1 9 months ago
Each county has an agricultural extension office. You should locate yours and I'll bet they could help you determine the problem. Good luck! -Jim
CountryComesToTown 9 months ago
@CountryComesToTown Good idea! Thanks Jim!! If all else fails, I will go there. My county office is a little over an hour away, so I'll have to plan a day trip...LOL

Wow - that sucks. It looks like a fungus and looking up purple spots on plum tree leaves also leads to fungus but I'm clueless. I hope a gardening expert answers. It was a fun video in spite of the reason for it. :( I have one tiny tomato - about the size of my little fingernail. But it's a start.
thizizliz 9 months ago
@thizizliz I guess a fungus can live for several seasons! I'm hoping someone will know too and have an easy cure for the poor thing!
I have 4 tomatoes and lots of blooms (on the inside one that doesn't want to leave the cactus...LOL!) I'm waiting for them to get big. The two plants outside died with the cold wind that whipped through. Looks like they are getting some new leaves again though. Fingers crossed! :-) How are your strawberries doing?
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@GreatGig1 Ooh, I've eaten them twice now. Not a lot but they are coming and the plants look stronger all the time. I have lots of blossoms on the tomatoes and one carrot seed sprouted! LOL - a couple of cilantro seeds and I think maybe a basil also sprouted. It's so fun because it's been years since I tried. They are all in pots to keep things simple. I'll be wishing your tomato plants good health! :)
thizizliz 9 months ago
@thizizliz Twice like two strawberries, or twice like two bowls of strawberries and cream?? :-)
You have all kinds of goodies growing! Congrats! I'm just hoping to salvage the fruit trees and get a couple of tomatoes this year. :-)
GreatGig1 9 months ago
@GreatGig1 Just barely more than two strawberries! LOL, the first time it was maybe two berries, the next 8 and today 1. I'd rather the plants took root better first - they are everbearing so should provide fruit all season. Well, so far, I see 1 carrot! Maybe one basil or two, 3 or 4 cilantro and the one tomato plant. I do have two green onions left in the front bed. So I could almost make salsa, right?
thizizliz 9 months ago
@thizizliz LOL...well, that's two more than I have...:-) I'll be looking forward to seeing what all you get! Hmmm...a YouTube co-op. I get one strawberry from you and you get one apricot from me...that's a start...LOL

@GreatGig1 Bwaahaaahaaa - let's do it! :)
