Since cruise control only really works for K/R, which are the same characters for which low scoring is almost completely trivial, I have a pretty good idea of what would happen if I tried that: not a whole lot.
You see, on the PAL version, because it is 50hz or something, the controller will sometimes mistake your A button presses for 2 quick A button presses. This makes Sonic and Knux instantly do a tiny jump when you want to do a big jump sometimes, and can lead to many deaths.
But for Tails, its really useful because you can jump, then INSTANTLY hover, allowing you to jump high, and do cool things like get out of the pyramid run level.
Timic83 (your pokemon crystal faq is stil the best ever)
hey mine does that, i thought it was just age getting to it or something, it makes sonic's pyramid gollum boss really annoying when you have to jump up the ledges and keep dashing off the edge XD is there anyway to stop it from happening?
I was JUST thinking about doing something like that last night! Oh, and you don't need to unplug the controller. Just hold X+Y+Start for 3-5 seconds and it will have the same effect as unplugging it and plugging it back in.
I don't really care too much about not being able to see, since I already know how the level is laid out. The problem is that this setup simply prevents me from even _reaching_ a good number of places, like the ceilings of large rooms, and any keys that are high up against walls that turn the camera instantly upon approach (and take Knuckles with it).
The fact that two of the keys were buried, or the fact that it allows me to pivot the camera without moving?
In the latter case, heck, I've cycled to dig with double Y on non-diggable ground before, just to get the "I can't!" message which serves much the same purpose. Sometimes it even sets me up for a spiral upper or screw kick, by spinning the camera during the idle time.
Yes, the Gamecube controller's control stick works the same way as the Dreamcast's joystick, so cruise control will still work. I've accidentally done it before.
It works even better, in fact, because you have a notch that's aligned straight up for easy preparation.
Dreamcast controllers don't have that, just a circle all the way around, so I have to guess where "straight up" is and try not to be off a bit to the left or the right.

cruise control COULD work for E/T but it would be as hard as turning a cat in to a 30 year old asian prostitute

What is there some debilitating handicap on the controls in PAL?
Can it really be worse than this self-inflicted one?

Jesus Christ, you rape this game...
How many hours have you logged on it?
Nightfiraga666 2 years ago
with all the speedruns its probably something like 2 or 3

This is impressive, its hard and fun to do that =P..
It is possible do a level with any character without jumping?, maybe you can record a video doing that if its possible in some level =S.. 5/5 stars!

Try searching for "A button challenge 0" some time. I hear that's a pretty good way of precluding jumps.

GameCube has that shortcut, but Dreamcast has no such thing.

It must be frustrating when you can't see where you are going.

I think Cruise Control up would be easier.

Care to take a guess why I didn't put the cruise control on up?
SadisticMystic 3 years ago
I can't think of a reason...

Since when was I about taking up "easy" challenges for the sake of being easy? If easy stuff is what you want, you don't need me for that.

Ahhhh

I just now got why you kept digging everywhere.

I meant the camera pivot. At least you got it done, right? Very impressive.

Really!? Wow, that sucks.

Thanks guys. I'll try it sometime.
That notch sure is useful especially for games like Super Monkey Ball.
BanjoD453 3 years ago
Did you have a broken controller at one point too? Haha. Geez... this is crazy. I can't imagine playing any game like this. Good stuff.
shadoweagle89 3 years ago
No, I just wanted to make a no-joystick challenge possible (albeit in the most difficult way).
Trying other games like this, though...I'll have to see what works and what doesn't.
SadisticMystic 3 years ago
Something like Rachet & Clank or Super Mario Sunshine would be crazy like this.
