These guys were good! But calling them THE NEW MONKEES was the kiss of death. The public wanted the original MONKEES so the fate of the NEW MONKEES was sealed before the band even had a chance to work on their material, which was shame because they were pretty good. Had the NEW MONKEES came out with another name, they would've succeeded.
I bought the audio cassette of this show. The band totally kicked it. I wore the cassette out. I am now on the hunt for the CD. The entire CD is back to back slammming tracks. Marty Ross is truly gifted
Trekfanful: Dude! Why are you calling me a liar? Just ask Matt Wallace he'll tell you the truth!! Also you might want to check things out before you start calling folks liars, it's a great way to get a bloody nose!!!
What's weird about this song is that I played guitar on it. My buddie Matt Wallace, a record producer, offered the job to me and I took it. I'm the only human playing on it, except for the vocals. It's sooo weird to see someone else pretending, poorly I might add, to play what I played. I'm playing but he's acting like he recorded the part. Truly bizarre!
Larry Saltis and his band Tower City will be releasing an updated Greatest Hits with new songs in late March/April. Check out Tower City, Colorvine on Facebook and make sure to Like the page for updates on the release.
@usernameyoudick Yeah... but this show was ahead of its time on the suckmeter in an era with far less programing.... today, who can tell what is awful TV when there is so much awful TV to go around!
I had my nephew watch this with me (he's 13) & all he had to say was "People actually complained about this? Didn't the world have more serious problems back in 1987?"
The hair kills me. The songs, generic 80s. Not really bad so much nothing. What gets me the most is their lack of personality and chemistry. The originals really were unique.
Honesty, I just laughed my ass off pretty good in those 3 minutes of video. The sad part is, I don't think that it was supposed to be funny.... Oh well. What else would you expect from the cheesiest decade ever :/
I agree, it was a mistake to call them the New Monkees. There's no way thsy could have been a success. And that is right, the original Monkees came out with that album about the same time. Even in 2009, Mickey Dolenz was on tour. Also, Not long after that the original Monkees went on tour and sold out arenas all over the country. I still love their music today.
There could never be another Monkees. I use to rush home in the 70's to watch them on TV .Just never got into the New Monkees...My philosophy "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
The song isn't bad but I agree, they shouldn't have been called the new Monkees. No one can compare with Davy, Peter, Mickey and Mike. Those guys are just pure magic.
I might have given these guys a chance had they not been called "The New Monkees." The entire idea is almost as much of a crime as "New Coke," but it only makes sense because the show was conceived by Columbia Pictures Television after Columbia was bought by Coca-Cola. It's a miracle Coca-Cola survived the 80's.
Good point about the "period" sound. Actually, I believe the original Monkees released their album "Pool It" at the same time (right?), and the New Monkees record was much more engaging, even more thoughtful ("Boy inside the Man," "Affection," etc.)

Someone actually sunk money and resources into this, thinking it was gonna be successful. Lol. People were so dumb in the 80's.

I agree that they should NEVER had been called the Monkees. Only four guys should share that title!
However, it was a good sound. If you can ignore the hidious haircuts! Makes the 'long' hair of the originals seem quite tame!

The entire decade of the 80s was cheesy. Remember Howard Johnson, Thomas Dolby, Falco....But I would take the simplicity of the 80s anytime.
