@MYsterYmarcus You seem like an educated person, I assume you knew what he meant by 50mbit up and down, and in that case you were just stating that for humor; thus you are an idiot.
@MYsterYmarcus If he has a 50Mbit connection that is not consumer or business class cable, that is a fairly substantial amount of bandwidth for hosting. You would be amazed how much concurrent traffic it takes to saturate a 50Mbit link.
@scraplife It takes one download and one upload of a big file to "saturate" it. If i would of hosted this many servers i would have used atleast a 1Gb/s link.
I even have 100mbit here at home. That isnt even enough for me some times, and im only running a small fileserver and my main computer seeding some torrents.
@MYsterYmarcus Right, I have 100Mbit cable here at my office as well however, if you are hosting you place QoS tags on certain types of traffic to prioritize them. If you spend the couple of grand per month for a 50/50 or 100/100Mbit Metro Ethernet connection to host servers for web traffic and use it for your own P2P traffic without using QoS tagging you shouldn't be hosting in the first place.
@scraplife try 1mbit. I can handle 18+ people on my alteriwnet server.. people don't even know how much 50 or 100 really is when you're doing something OTHER than filesharing.. If only I had fiber... :P
lol bet the ups would only power that stuff for a minute..

interesting camera angle. Server looks great but no closeup?

um how much did those battery back ups run you?

@5445252 I got a lot of the older stuff for free, and I trash even more old hardware.
Often time it costs more in power than a server is worth to spin up

Must be nice, a 100/100 MetroE over Fiber link here is thousands per month. :|

@scraplife The file server is for personal use only. And 100/100 is cheap, around 30€ a month.

I have a Fiber Optic Router you can have. Its collecting dust in the corner with a few other things..
scott93257 5 months ago
@scott93257 haha i'd love it, but fiber in my area would probably cost thousands per month, as no isp even offers it. thanks for the offer :D
