Ok, here's a little timeline for anyone still wondering.

Terra, Ventus and Aqua were the keyblade wielders before Sora. The three were a part of some sort of keyblade war that (apparently) killed lts of people and involved king mickey.

Ventus is identical to Roxas and it is thought that one of the three (Terra, Ventus or Aqua) are Sora's father or mother.

Ventus is also connected somehow to organization XIII member Braig (Xigbar) and i think others

358/2 is basically filling in the gaps of Roxas' memory in the Organization; Birth By Sleep takes places ten years before Sora and Roxas, and Aqua is pretty much Kairi. Terra is Riku, and Ventus is Sora/Roxas. You play as all three.
