Knowing the myopia of studio executives, re-doing the theme was probably their idea of keeping the show fresh and hence, keep the ratings up. At this point, the show dying was inevitable, and only good stories and new stars hooking viewers could have helped that.
I get that the show was now taking place in the mid-60s but c'mon, the feathered and permed hairstyles are too contemporary to the early-80s. I'd almost expect any African American extras on the show to be wearing Jheri curls.
The first 5 or 6 seasons of happy days were some of the best in tv history........unfortunately, the last 4 or 5 seasons were almost unwatchable. Such a sad finish to a GREAT show.
This is when they really started to go downhill. The Fonz became an old lady, there was WAY too much Joney and Chauchy and some blonde guy who was really annoying.
@TheJiggsCasey speaking charters fonz im not what his real age is he got older too fast joanie/chachi are both young adults age 20 or 21 blonde guy is roger he is fonz age he become a teacher
@erika2012vsu Did you live in the 50's? I did, learned to drive, got my first car, got my first stready G'F, lasted over 3 years. The house scenes mimiced mine. The drugstore fountains, drive in diners, drive in movies. They're all duplicates of my life in most ways. Maybe some of it was based on Calif. teen life, but much was the same as the mid west life that I grew up in.
@erika2012vsu season 11 it was already 1964 or 65 and tacoalogy change music change fanishon change teenagers grow up too fast drive in's disapear are replace with chemias arnold's was hang out place got burned down and turn into a small pub where older teens hang out
So season 11 would make it, say, 1967 or 68. Then why does Fonzie still dress like it's 1956, Chachi has 1984 hair, Joanie has an 80s perm, etc. Seems they stopped caring about the show's appearance after the first 2 years.
the show lasted longer then the 50's decade did. Were they even trying to look like they were still in the 50's at this point in the show? I see a lot of early 80's in the clothes and hair
i'm not gonna lie. i spit out my water laughing when the opening credits showed the Fonz and Chachi on the bike and the background music went "Feels so right, can't be wrong"
WTF? They changed the singer for the intro. Then Mrs. C has a new hairdo? They shoulda ended this show when Richie and Ralph Malph left the show. Talking beating a dead horse. The last few seasons were LAME and CORNY. LOL
@boofdfast can you say TED.....MCGINLEY! that dildo makes any show crap, he ruiined Happy Days ( Garry Marshall was on crack when he hired him) LoveBoat (same for Aaron Spelling, he must've been on something) and Married with Children (Yep Leavitt and Moye were running out of Ideas)
@gregspeaksthetruf Yeah, adding that mofo to the show, was like building a nuclear power plant in a nice, clean suburban neighborhood... sooner or later it's going to stink or make the market value go down the toilet. LOL
Can you imagine what it would've been like if other ABC shows from the past, like Batman, ran for 11 seasons like Happy Days did?
I find it amazing that when this show premiered in '74, ABC staples like The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family were still on the air but had run their course and were on their way out. By the time of Happy Days' last season, Dynasty and Webster were the network's new hits. It, along with Three's Company, Hart to Hart and Fantasy Island, would be gone by May '84.
God, this was one show that should have ended when Ron Howard and Donny Most left. Yet, it dragged on and on and on. They weren't even trying to put these people in the 50's anymore.
Happy Days took a huge ratings hit in Season 11, mainly because it was forced to do battle with NBC's monster hit, The A-Team (Happy Days lost by an overwhelming margin). It dropped from 28th in Season 10, to only 63rd in Season 11. That's why it was the final season. Too bad.
@jessieiskoo Try telling that to M*A*S*H too. Ironic, both shows took place in the 1950s, although presumably toward the end of the run of Happy Days, it was the early 60s perhaps.
@BatmanFan1966 M-A-S-H was made in 1950's( i got to do more research) happy days was made in 1970's- set in 1950's season 11 was set in 1960's where things change too quickly the story lines kind of got more intersting if you watch between the lines ( things they don't show) on tv you get a feel for the 1960's
some stroy lines make me laugh or cry or think about other things
Ted McGinley was Marion's nephew. His role was basketball coach at Jefferson High. When Fonzie became Dean of students for troubled boys he became principal.
freeze this at 0.30 and look at what a retard dork the fonz looks like-you knew it was over when the fonz put on a helmet like this, also in the opening sequence in the earlier episodes fonzie/wrinkler is actually riding his bike it is obvious in this scene his bike is being pulled by a truck while mounted on a trailer did the fonz lose his nerve or was a insurance thing?
I'd imagine it was something to do with the networks, Fonzie had to be shown as safe and wear a helmet. About the bike - I'd imagine it was insurance, Henry Winkler was a huge star at this time.
not near as good as the older version the older version made you think about a simpler time this is to close to TV shows now for me to remember a time before i was born
Does anyone know if Potsie and Jonie were about to hook up? What is with that scene where Potsie runs up to Joanie on1:14 of this intro. It looks as if he is making a move on her.
Even the opening titles are depressing reminders of how far this show fell from grace in the later seasons... not that it was ever THAT bad... but it just seemed that way in comparison to how GOOD it used to be.

The difference between the other intros and this is that women joined in on the vocals.I'm guessing season 11 dates back to the early 1960's when girl groups were becoming popular.
