@enacra101 Half the people in the entertainment industry aren't particularly great-looking. Many big stars are merely average - Seth Rogan? Lady Gaga? Alot of the beautiful ones are big for a while and then fad fast into obscurity after people realize that they don't have what it takes. Plenty of hotel receptionists and folks working in retail are downright plain. We do place too much value on looks over ability but we don't get completely bat-shit carried away with it like this.

Seth rogan and Lady gaga may be "average" but they are decent with all the makeup etc hollywood will put on them to make them beautiful they are EASILY above average (you can't tell me gaga isn't atleast somewhat appealing besides the odd dress sense). look at susan boyle for example.. the woman can sing her ass off but people take her almost for a joke just because she isn't drop dead gorgeous, (cont)

I have been to East Asia, and while It was fun, it is disturbing how much value they place on image and absolute physical perfection above all else. Image obsession is a problem here but image is absolutely EVERYTHING over there. Unlike Boyle, this girl probably won't even be given a peek at what stardom could be like, even though she is young and cute. Now just imagine how an older woman like Boyle would be treated.
