This is a stunning piece of acting from Blanchett. When I watched the DVD I must have repeated this bit ten times. The little bit of vulnerability peeking from behind all the pride ... it's all there. Wow.

the truth is Howard proposed Kate many times. She kept saying "no" as she supposed he would do it again. Then someday he disappeared. Kate didn't leave Howard for Tracy. She just wasn't looking for a husband- even a most wonderful one like Howard. She 's too independent. That' s Kate. She's never been a "typical" type of woman.May be she was hurt but she chose it: a real life not another man

Such a poignant scene

One of my favorite scenes from The Aviator. Cate Blanchett deserved her Oscar alright. Like Katharine Hepburn, she stole the show and her witty observations about Howard Hughes are spot on. To quote Kate Bosworth's Ava Gardner "It's no wonder Katharine Hepburn left your pathetic ass!"
