  • 1 hr 23 min long headache.

  • When I was a little kid, my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did....

  • Video length: 1.57 * 2 = 3.14

  • @human274 watch it twice maybe something will happen

  • Πυθαγόρας

  • Do you think I could watch it??? I want to see something like that!!!

  • Boards Of Canada yeah!

  • Brilliant film !

  • Film zaprawdę inspirujący. Mój ulubiony fragment:

,,Odczepcie się ode mnie! Ja tylko chcę wynaleźć wzór opisujący wrzechświat."

    Muzyka trochę mózg niszczyła.

  • @pierwiastek0z0pi

Mroczne psychodeliczne IDM ? Muzyka była świetna, opinie.

  • @Shoutenkou

    Jedno drugiego nie wyklucza.

Była wyjątkowo klimatyczna, jednocześnie w pewien sposób mnie irytowała. Tak trochę jak dźwięk noża, który jeździ po talerzu.

Ale owszem, bez muzyki film by prawdopodobnie wiele stracił.

  • Why 360 degrees?

I think the circle was divided into 360 degrees,

so that the number 23 might be associated

    with the Pentagram symbol.

    216 = (2^3)*(3^3).

  • @johnnytoogood007 360 degrees is wrong, is a arbitrary value.(not is a number, only a kind of name or reference)

the right number might be "2*Pi"

  • Why the hell is this movie black and white? In 1998?

I know Clerks managed a decent movie in black and white, but that was 4 years ago and less than half the budget.

If this was an active choice to make all in black and white, I gotta say... ew, no.

  • @HatoburekaSutajio I think it just adds to the subject. Black and white, right and wrong answer...a parallel drawn...and lots of grays in between.

  • @artisbreathing

I can buy that, but that's an awful extreme to go to just to impress a point.

  • @HatoburekaSutajio well the only reason apart from "low budget" i can think of is the protagonists thinking of black and white. also the chase scenes in this movie look hella awesome through this sharp contrast between light sources and shadows.

  • I have the weirdest math boner right now

  • Is this a fan made trailer or is this official?

anyway Boards of Canada rules, and is a perfect soundtrack for this film

  • @awwsomecola

Yeah I'm a brony, I watched the first season of FiM and I'm keen for season 2! Should have lots of little hints to brony culture in the new season.

  • i need to know the watch worn by max

  • If the number he needs is only 216 digits long, couldn't a modern day computer generate every possible number in a couple of hours?

  • one of the most claustrophobic, paranoid movies ive ever seen.

  • What is the actual idea of the movie?

  • This is nuts, but real.

    Is damm real.

  • @cobaine87 @RPGgamer98 @PoloniumSmoker

    PI= 3.14159

    E=2.71828

    PIE = 8.53973422

Hence me mentioning you can't spell or do maths.

  • Comment removed

  • What! There's a film of Pi? Totally random

  • Excelente!!

  • si : O

  • @lordinfamous15234 isn't 1:57 117 mod 60 ?

  • @caszoma pi = 3.14 retard

  • I wish they added the same music in the movie .

  • I stared at the sun when I was 6 and I'm in advanced honors math. Creepy. Maybe staring at the sun makes you a math genius.

    Lol just joking.

  • The name PI relates to the person who first discovered this magic number, max's teacher, during his investigation into patterns occurring in PI. There are no observable patterns in PI, or in the stock market, which is what the film is about, being able to predict the unpredictable, god through science etc.

And finally for the people who cant spell or do maths PIE is equal to 8.53973422.

  • @CazSoma fail? 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510....... you dumbass

  • @CazSoma

Put a power drill to your head.

  • Am i the only one here from Ponies the Anthrology

  • @awwsomecola What is that???

  • @PattyDLuffy an awesome collection of random audio, being songs and speeches, mixed in perfectly with the cartoon My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. It is unbelievably funny.

  • @awwsomecola Oh, I should try watching that then :P

  • @awwsomecola Thanks to Ponies the Anthology, I am obsessed with this movie. Absolute work of art both the anthology and pi.

  • @NoRoomForDoom you should watch the actual show it the anthrology's based on. But even if you don't, I agree with you i saw this movie only because of the Anthrology, and i have to say it was good.

  • @awwsomecola obviously not =P

  • @awwsomecola nope *brohoof*

  • Again, it is NOT "py" as it is used in Anglo, but "pe"; if you are going to use the Greek symbols.

  • 3.14 = PI.E

  • Brilliant plot. Ignoring the fact that looking straight into the sun is pure torture, and no kid would persevere such pain to catch a glimpse; in addition, even super computers cannot find a pattern in pi. It's a movie well done.

  • @Spyez The number in the movie isn't Pi though??????????? So whether or not it is possible to find Pi is irrelevant to this movie. The number Max is investigating starts with 941...

  • @thelatestttplague

    Ummmm, no.

  • @Spyez What are you talking about? What I'm saying is the truth, I have seen this movie plenty of times and have the dvd. If you have the dvd go to scene where he figures it out and pause when it shows the computer screen. If not just look up "Max finds the 216 digit number" on youtube. The number definitely isn't pi. Pi doesn't even show up in the movie. PHI(the golden ratio) is in it but Pi is not. "Pi" is more or less just a title and bears little relation the actual movie...

  • @thelatestttplague

I suppose the title of the movie is quiet apropos in that case.

  • @erghtrgh because it's too hard!

  • Eraserhead meets Requiem For a Dream/Inception. I refuse to watch this online; must buy!

    <3

  • @gibboj94 except the fact that Requiem For a Dream and Inception suck balls compared to this movie. the Eraserhead is fine.

  • @erghtrfgh I loved ALL of them. I just meen the consept of them. Inception because it is based on obsession, Requiem because it shows how a simple idea can change the lives of millions, and Eraserhead because if the style in which it is made.

    <3

  • @gibboj94 I don't like the way Inception is made - I believe the director overused the suspention wich was present in all his previous movies in much better proportion. I don't like the action scenes, I don't like the plot holes, I don't like the way they made the music sound almost identical to The Dark Knight music.. I don't like a lot in Inception and think TDK is way better. on the topic of Requiem: I still think Pi is superior to Aranofsky's subsequent film in several ways.

  • 2) @gibboj94 Like the wholeness of the story, the use of music and imagery. hell, the only part of the requiem I loved, the only story I believed in was the grandma's story. that's only 1/3 of the movie. the rest was ok, but not that convincing. the film as a whole imho is sending the single message - drugs ARE BAD! boys, dont do drugs or u'll get ur arms cut, girls - dont do drugs or u'll become whores. etc. wich is shallow and boring and unconvincing and annoying and populistic and (!)untrue.

  • 3) @gibboj94 and here at last I would like to say again that the only story of the Requiem that is in my eyes somehow interesting is the part about grandma's addiction to TV images, to that "be excited" mantra, the need to be saved by the means of self representation, her total addiction to her past. drugs can be just a metaphor here, and the story is not about "dont do drugs" that much, but rather about the nature of the addiction and the lack of free will.

  • 3.14 squared is 9.8596, the reciprocal of that is 0.1014 which is scary because it feels like 10 minutes 14 seconds has passed watching this movie when really 3 minutes fourteen seconds has elapsed. This is space / time dilation and will be better represented in "American Pi", the sequel.

  • Is this an actual movie

  • I'd watch it but it's in black and white :(

  • @moshechoc

Why would that matter? Plenty of classic movies are black and white.

  • I HATE MATH!

  • @Awesomedude12335 how can you hate the scince? any scince? that's too abstract for me to imagine. +math gave you your PC and teh interwebs, so show some gratitude, d00d.

  • DUDE FUCK YEAHHHH i just found this movie BOARDS OF CANADA YEAHHHHH

  • I love this film guys, you should watch it.

  • thank you Daren Aronofsky.Dinos from Greece

  • MUSIC IS MATH!

  • Comment removed

  • Why is this movie called Pi.. When it's about "PHI" the golden ratio..

  • @UndisclosedDesirable commercial reasons probably more people have heard of pi than phi

  • Bo Burnham in the hizzouse?????????

Darren Aronofsky and this film is referenced in the book

"6 Newly Discovered and Never Before Published Secrets to Eternal Youth and Immortality"

    by Eternal Youth Empire.

Thank you for being such a profound inspiration!!!

  • omg with boards of canada's music, this trailer is just epic

  • What is really curious about this video is the fact that it has 1:57 min.

    1.57 x 2 = 3.14

Just a coincidence though. But cool.

  • @Pedrolisbao you cannot represent Pi as a "normal fraction" such as 22/7....so.. 3.14 doesn't = Pi.. Pi=3.141592654....

    22/7=3.142857143....

  • @Pedrolisbao or in English language.. Pi is irrational number..

  • @DrKillaser Yes, Pi is irrational. The thing is we will always use some approximation of it for any practical use. In this case, I used 3.14 to notice that the video's length is relatable to it.

It does not mean anything mathematical, but then again, neither does this video.

  • @Pedrolisbao ah.. lol... then sorry.. xD.. didn't notice the length of the video.. :P

  • @Pedrolisbao yea but 1:57 is really 57 mod 60. You would have to do the arithmetic in mod 60. But yea still cool :)

  • @Pedrolisbao scary

  • @Pedrolisbao Half "Π". Something like this "Γ" (I'm just joking).

  • @Pedrolisbao what is really curious is the fact that if you take the amount of current dislikes and subtract 5.86 from it then you get 3.14 what a coincidence eh? just thought i'd waste your time sharing

  • @Pedrolisbao He's right. o.O

  • @Pedrolisbao theres no relevance of the 2 though. but it is coincidence.

  • @Pedrolisbao

    Coincidence??? I think NOT!!!!

  • @Pedrolisbao and 3 + 1 + 4 = 8 which can be the number for infinity

  • @Pedrolisbao well... who knows.. it might not be a coincidence... expect anything from Aronofsky !

  • 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937 longer longer!!!!

  • 1.6 is everywhere, esta pelicula es la ostia, espero siga en la caja en la que la dejé

  • I didn't understood this movie never! :S explain me someone!

  • @eroock please put some more of where ever that came from out here on the web

  • Awesome awesome awesome fan made trailer, I was dreaming about this film and I'm not sure if the trailer came from my dream or vis versa.... Great work!!!!!!!!

  • @eroock whats name of this music plz??!

  • @owlsavva Boards of Canada - Music Is Math

  • I can not believe this is fan made, this is amazing. I didn't realise it wasn't the true trailer until I read. This is better than the real trailer.

  • Excellent trailer. This Boards of Canada song fits perfectly the general feeling of the movie. It seriously could have been the official trailer, good job !

  • 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884...

  • hey there..

hey creator...I would like to get hold of you directly about malikng a trailer

  • The fountain which gave me quite a strange feeling is now being described by this movie thus reflecting the sub-elements of the directors mentality which amazes me.

  • That was a awesome trailer probably the greatest fan made trailer i have ever seen you should win something

  • This seriously has to be the best home-made trailer I've ever seen. The music is absolutely perfect, it's like a music video set to the footage of Pi.

Sean Gulette should've won something for his performence here. His full immsersion is a style constantly overlooked in our society which favors eye candy and explosions over truely brilliant filmmaking. It's like talent isn't cool anymore.

The performences from Sean, and from Requiem for a Dream, should be studied in acting classes.

  • Moreeeee movies like this? :O

  • Darren Aronofsky's directing style really reminds me of Christifer Nolan.

  • I'd ignore the knots in my stomach and watch this just to find out what would make a person raise a power drill to his head.

  • Cool, but weird movie

  • What I love about Darren is that there never is a happy end to his movies... Well, it's not completely bad either, but it's definitely nothing like usual mainstream Hollywood cinema. It really makes you think...

  • I just bought this movie but after watching the trailer it looks like the movie has quite a dark feeling towards it, just like Requiem for a dream. Am I correct?

Cause want to ruin my happy mood so closely before NYE

  • you made this trailer? or is this the official one?

its probably one, if not the best, i've ever seen xd

  • best film ever, period! sean gulette was just brilliant!

  • This movie is awesome

  • "11:15, restate my assumptions: 1. Mathematics is the language of nature. 2. Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. 3. If you graph these numbers, patterns emerge. Therefore: There are patterns everywhere in nature." Maximillian Cohen

  • someone told me this movie was based on the work of dan winter. can anyone confirm that?

also, the album "Geogaddi" by Boards of Canada is amazing. this track is on that album.

  • perfect choice of music!

  • 0110111011101000101

  • awesome film. i wanted to read its book but there isnt :(

  • I'ts a fake or i'ts real ?

  • @Noex18 It's the real deal, I saw the movie a few weeks ago. I'm starting to like mathematics because of it, and it's creepy - I've hated maths all my life, until this movie.

  • @artisbreathing I want to see it ! =3

  • We love this movie! Awesome!

  • And all in all, your world is nothing but an innercircle...

  • 10.10.10

  • Brilliant music with brilliant movie. Think this is the best trailer I've ever seen.

  • boards of canada yessss

  • Exscelente pelicula

  • I can tell for everyone, that this is a good movie for those, who they are fluently educated, and not just living in the 'wide entertaining world'! If you like thinking, you decide to watch it. ...my opinion.

  • Fucking brilliant trailer!

  • this might be the best trailer ever made

  • SUDOKU!

  • @Starioshka lol

  • the director of this movie, Darren Aronofsky (also directed masterpieces such as 'requiem for a dream', 'wrestler' and the most recent film, 'black swan' ) is beyond ingenuity.

  • it's a black and white requiem for a dream but instead of drugs it's about numbers.

  • this my friends...is GREECE (HELLAS) without the Greek philosophy and mathematic the whole world would be like the animals!!! this is called alfarithmitiko systyma..NUMBERALPHABETIC SYSTEM!!! its a code language, every word and phrase has a number!!and many phrases and words have the same number!!!thats not a coincidence.there is no such thing!!!!there is always a purpose and a reason.

  • I seen the movie Requiem for a Dream..

can anybody tell me if this film is any good? It looks pretty weird and twisted

  • @stonerguy19666 Yes, to both

  • any films like this? intellectual, thought provoking, poetic sorts

  • This movie is so weird. I have to watch it again to undestand. xD

  • boards of canada are awesome

  • Doesn't this guy play the pervy psychiatrist in Requiem for a Dream?

  • This is one of the best films i've seen in a loong time! The great thing about it is that i discovered it accidentally, as i was zapping my TV at 3 am. in the night! I also want to point out that the soundtrack of this movie is a real masterpiece. The electronic, especially drum and base twist of the music fits perfectly with the situations! I loved the camera work too' nice chosen filming angles wich give the movie a very natural look.

  • @cafe6am it's boards of canada - music is math

  • oh my gosh does he drill a hole in his head?!! thats awful!!

  • Can anyone recognize the identity of the statue at 1:46 ?

  • boards of canada are sick

  • the soundtrack to this movie alone is worth enough to watch it.

  • Anyone know any books that are similar to this movie??

  • the f*cking second best film of my life ever

  • @iuriazeredo

    What's the first?

  • @iuriazeredo and whats the best movie?

  • This film is a masterpiece. It doesn't need any special effects, not even colourful shots to amaze the viewers. The plot is brilliant and the scenes are so strong that makes you feel exactly what the characters go through. It is an illusion, a dream, a thriller... I just love it, the first time I saw it I couldn't even move from my seat...

  • Just finished it, and I think that Aronofsky is brilliant! This film really pushes you to think hard, and it's so perfectly shot with the hallucination sequences and its beautiful look on life. I'll be watching this again and again.

  • If you like this movie you will love the first movie from Christopher Nolan called "following"

  • 3.1415926535897932384626433832 795028841971693993751058209749 445923078164062862089986280348 253421170679821480865132823066 470938446095505822317253594081 284811174502841027019385211055 596446229489549303819644288109 756659334461284756482337867831 652712019091456485669234603486 104543266482133936072602491412 737245870066063155881748815209 209628292540917153643678925903 600113305305488204665213841469 519415116094330572703657595919 530921861173819326117931051185 480744623799627495673518857527 2489

  • 216 digits.

    216 = 6 x 6 x6

    mind = blown

  • @EDje664 6 to the exponent of 3?

  • 6 to the power of 3?

  • lol

  • the budget was 60k.

  • this is the perfect song for this trailer good work good song good brothers

  • damn

    aronfsky you are brilliant

  • Math is the ladder we use to climb out of the horror of existence.

Brilliant film. Overlooked masterpiece. Thank you.

  • twice i had a dream that there are three numbers in a equation but then there were more and more and i couldn't solve them and i woke up and started crying and my mom was confused and i told my friend this bit she didn't get it so just throwing that out there

  • dont cry... eventually you'll find the solutions... just needs time :)

  • I think you are still normal, but I don't know what normal is these days.

  • Beautiful.

  • @CordLessAccount

    I actually agree with that.

  • @CordLessAccount

ok i think there was some misunderstanding here...i didnt mean that the last scene in the movie ruins it. In fact its the best part; what i meant was, that showing that scene in the trailer, ruins the movie as you know what is going to happen

  • Like many movies and other pieces of art not everything is supposed to be interpreted literally. When he uses the drill at the end he is really just 'killing' the thing he has been obsessing over which is math. It is somewhat explained how he cant do the calculator problem at the end. Just my opinion anyway

  • It was a weird film..... Not that my english isn't enough, I couldn't understand it. The real name of God is 216 numbers and then what? He goes into a light (with that weird sickness hallucination) and when he comes back he forgets everything about maths? I really didn't understand it but it did made me think, I guess its one of the best movies ever made

  • No, he couldn't do the maths anymore as he drilled into his brain to release pressure on his brain, which gave him the headaches. I think it was meant to be the headaches that gave him the power to do all that maths.

  • ck out the commentary for the last scene(drill) he actually drils his head

  • It's worth watching the movie but it has the classic American bullshit they think mathematics is. In the intro when pi's digits are listed and scrolled, only the few first are correct. After about 10 of them, they're purely random. How hard could it have been to just calculate them? It is the subject of the movie after all.

  • If you'd watched closely you should have realized that the number Pi is only a MacGuffin and not the subject of the movie at all. The goof you mentioned might be intentional to stress that very point.

  • @mtfr but cause on one cares, and the ones who cares knows that the movie is fictional.
