I Really loved Kurt Swans Superman and SuperBoy. Duplicated here with Norm Prescott & Lou Scheimer's Filmation crew. The New Superman ReBoot actor played by Mr. Cavill bears a resemblance to SuperBoy, Not Superman. While Reeves, Routh & Welling do bear a resemblance to Kurt Swans Superman. Swan, was an Anatomical Illustrator by profession For Medical Schools. Thats why, In my eyes the new WB cartoon Superman has almost no anatomical Symmetry , Balance or proportion by the Illustrators . Why?
I first learned of Krypto from this cartoon, BEFORE the comics---always liked Superboy better with Krypto. And, as there was another hero/super pet team on tv around the same time-Mightor and Tog-I always wondererd who would win between the two duos. I humbly ask-anyone inclined to help answer that question, go to the video, "Who would win#4, DC universe vs. Hanna-Barbara universe" and join the debate!(Other battles include Shazzan vs. Dr. Fate, Zandor/ Dornu vs. Batman/Robin, etc.!
@ultraboy5 That's right. Krypto was Jor-El's first experiment in sending living creatures into space to see if they could survive the journey to Earth. An asteroid struck the capsule and deflected it into a long orbit that eventually brought Krypto to Earth and Superboy long after Krypton exploded.
the dog is Krypto, based on the "Silver Age" continuity - Krypto is a Kryptonian dog, he was baby Kal-El's pet and was sent by Jor-El in an experimental rocket BEFORED he made the rocket that sent Kal-El(Superman) to Earth, the rocket was knocked off course and Krypton was in suspended anmimation until making its way to Earth where the dog was reunited with a now teenage Kal-El(Superboy) and like "all" Kryptonians the dog gained superpowers
The reason you cannot recall the series was that it was part of "The New Adv. of Superman" (and later "The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure and still later "The Batman/Superman Hour").
This was an internal open for this segment, but it never ran as a series on its own.
Unfortunately, because of this INSANE "Who owns Superboy?" legal squabble between DC Comics and the families of Superman's creators,it may be awhile before we actually get to see these eps released on DVD.
Yes, we need Neal Adams to once again put the pressure on Warner, like he did back in the 70's...One thing I recall from the Superman/Aquaman Hour is a scrambled "secret message" that you had to figuire out (it may have contained a clue about the next week's guest hero segment).
@GatewayGhettoProd It did. The code was a reverse-alphabet cypher; A=Z, B=Y, ect., and the code phrase(s) appeared before a commercial break. I believe at the end of the show or before the final cartoon they revealed the solution to the code phrase(s) but you still had to wait until next week to see who the guest hero was.
OK, this version of Superboy happens BEFORE the Kents are affected by an alien youth serum. (It was right in line with the continuity for 1966) And as far as "Smallville" is concerned, that is based on the CURRENT continuity -- where Clark Kent NEVER WAS SUPERBOY.
Oh, OK. I haven't really followed any of the characters since about 5 years or so after "Crisis On Infinte Earths". But, I'm glad to hear it. I always liked Superboy just a little better than Superman.
